Seat Comfort

I'm going to hate myself for starting this thread, because 1) There is a "I hate the seats in this vehicle" thread on every car forum in existence, and 2) car seating is really a personal thing.

 

That said, I've been having a very hard adjustment to the seats in the MKX.  I do have the 22-way adjustable seats, but the bottom cushion feels so hard and flat that my personal bottom (which doesn't suffer from the same thin padding) begins to ache within minutes.  As far as the lumber supports are concerned, even the low settings feel like they are jabbing a rock into my back.  I can set back the support, of course, but that feels like sitting in a sponge.

 

Just wondering how the rest of you are doing with the seats (recognizing again that this is a fairly personal issue).

Its a major downside to an otherwise fantastic vehicle.

I do not have the 22-way seats. That said I think the seats are excellent and I have no issues with them as far as comfort.

You are correct in saying it's personal preference.

 

In the beginning I found a lot to deal with regarding all the changes in the MKX. I personally fooled with settings for a couple of weeks until the seat leather loosened up and the air bags settled in and now all is good. I have driven from Toronto to LA and the seats were pretty good. I'm 215lbs.

 

Particularly like the range setting for the side bolsters. I have always had a tenancy to hang on to the console shifter when making sketchy turns. Now that its gone the bolsters keep my ass in the seat.

I find the seats in my MKX to be the most comfortable in any car I have owned , and I am comparing them to a Cadillac SRX as well which were very hard. I drive forbusiness and will drive from Toronto to Ottawa or Windsor which is 4 hours and walk out at the end feeling great. I do not have the massage seats. Love the total comfort and package that this car is.  Shoe

I find the seats ok...comfortable in a sense that even on a 5 hour seat I don't hate how my ass/back feel but not good enough that I always feel not set...meaning I tend to adjust the seat a bit here and there every few days. Never had a car that I had to do that but I never had an SUV either so that could be part of it. I feel if I had the 22 way seats the cusion extension may fix my regular fidgeting.

You mean that they are memory linked? If not, how hard is to adjust the headrest 'manually'? How often does the headrest need adjusting?

Yup.  You can raise, lower, and move the headrest back as far as you want.  A lot of Ford owners complain of the headrest being to close and pushing their heads down.

Tried lots of stuff like that over the years.  One major issue is that you can't use the seat heater or a/c. The other issue is that seat toppers and pads rarely improve anything.

My wife has a bad back (bone cancer) and we checked out many choices before buying the MKX.  Tried the Volvo XC90; BMW X5 & X3 & X1; Cadillac XT5 (which didn't have the passenger seat as adjustable as drivers seat); Tesla Model X (for a full 24 hour test drive for 200 miles); Toyota Highlander & RAV4; VW Touareg; GMC Terrain; Ford Edge & Edge Sport.  When she sat in the 22-way MKX passenger seat she was sold.  We then took advantage of the 24-hour "Date Night" test drive from Lincoln and it sealed the deal.  We had to wait but just took delivery of our 2016 MKX 2 days ago so we don't have much seat time in yet.  But, based on that 24-hour drive where we took the same 200 mile ride as the Tesla, think we made the right choice.  BTW, loved the Tesla "no gas" concept and would have went that route except the seats just weren't comfortable.  Just wish the MKX would get better MPG!  Hmmm, maybe I should have bought the Tesla and the MKX, swapped seats, called the Insurance Company.....oh wait, that'd be dishonest.  Wouldn't go there!.  For now "comfort" rules.

The 22's sound really great, but I believe I'll wait until they come out with the 36 position seats with the shiatsu massage option. Guess cars will be driverless by then.

Just my opinion, but I don't think the higher end seats in my car are all that more comfy than the base seats.  I'm not a huge fan of either. I will say, however, that I always tend to hate the seats in new car so I'm not convinced I won't be happier over time.

Laughable yes, but I often rent vehicles with the purpose of maintaining a perspective of both (1) what's currently in my stable and (2) evaluating the difference between value products and what are marketed as upscale products. Driving one of the former often induces one to greatly appreciate the latter...been doing it for many years.

 

Skipping all the details the many (Ugh...OMG) Sentra's shortcomings, it is difficult to describe the contrasting pleasurable amenities of the MKX...the sensuous feel of the smooth leather steering wheel, steering response, ride comfort, interior quietness, ergonomics, powerful, commanding 2.7 turbo smoothness, quality touch controls, confidant manners, comfortable premium leather seating, entry/exit ease, engineering features (special mention of Nissan's obsolete 1970s door & trunk hinges) and many other Lincoln accolades. Of course, I recognize the $25,000 premium cost of the MKX, but dollars don't count in a purely salacious comparison.

 

My purchase of the MKX continues to satisfy.

I'll add that I especially like that the MKX is, in my opinion, somewhat "understated" luxury rather than being pretentious.  I felt the same way about a Buick Park Avenue I owned some years back.

 

But then again, I'm from Minnesota where many folks feel adding peas to macaroni salad is show offy...  Haha!

It is understated luxury, and this comes from a guy whose last vehicle was a BMW! I'm not big on brand names though and I would have been satisfied with the EDGE sport but wanted the nicer interior in the Lincoln.

Yes that is exactly what happened to me. I owned an Edge Sport and was ready to trade for another 2016...UNTIL I just happened find out from a fiend at the plant that the MKX was getting an entire make over.  Took my chances and ordered it when dealers had none.

Anyway, I also wanted to upgrade to a nice interior and quiet quality.

Similar story here.  I was considering a Ford Edge and loading it up with options.  The salesman commented that I was trying to turn a Ford Edge into a Lincoln MKX.  His wise comment, along with the increased 4-year 50,000 Lincoln bumper to bumper warranty and I'm now an MKX owner. 

 

Incidentally, the salesman's suggestion and my first MKX test drive were made at Palm Springs Motors in Palm Springs, CA.  So glad I stopped in...

Grabbed a ride to Enterprise rental from my dealer this morning, used a 2017 MKX. Surprised at the seats, have to agree, didn't like them either. Felt cramped.

The interior is so different from my 09 that I had a hard time getting used to the interior. Overall I *could* get used to it, seems cramped compared to my 09. Don't like the black interior this one had, personal preference.

After 1 1/2 year, how do you like your 22-way adjustable seats so far? When I look at the picture of the upgraded seats, it looks like this may be more uncomfortable for me to drive on during heavy Los Angeles traffic jams, and harder to reach brake pedal because bottom is more longer.
