Well, it apparently arrived at the local rail depot, 10 miles from the dealership, on Monday. Here it is Friday, and it still wasn't on today's truck. Seems kind of odd that they would take more than 4 days to get it to a dealer, only 10 miles from the transfer yard, unless it got damaged, and they are trying to figure out what to do about it. And getting information from Lincoln is impossible. FedEx can provide detailed tracking information on a $6 package at any time, but Lincoln can't accurately track a $63,000 item. If I were Lincoln, I'd terminate the contract with the transport company. Thankfully, I have nothing invested in the car at this point, so I can walk away if it is indeed damaged by neglect or storm ... It required numerous inquiries & paperwork submissions after delivery dates were passed before FedEx commenced an investigation and 'fessed up to the losses. While it was never admitted, the matter was likely an internal theft issue at one of their local distribution centers. Hopefully your MKX will arrive soon and all will be well. It never hurts to plan for the worst though, and that's kinda what I'm doing. The problem is, I really don't like the looks of other current offerings in the MKX's price range. The Mercedes GLC is too small, and the Audi Q5 is outdated, and too, well, round looking. The new Lexus RX is just plain fugly ( a coworker bought one). The BMW X5 is way over priced. I would be prepared to wait for the updated Q5 that is either coming out as a '17 or '18 on an all new platform, like the new 2017 Q7. My brother just picked one up; the fit/finish, options, ride, and technology are amazing! Being a V6 fan, that would be my preferred mode, but both models are reportedly equal in size to the current model...maybe a deal breaker. I've been checking ETIS pretty much daily, excited to see the "generic" build date for my MKX change to an "actual" build date. Checking today, things were a bit different. Just barely feel the air. (Great AC though, cooled the car downfast). Side note, it had MyLincolnSync, not Sync 3, July-15 build date. Have attempted to track using the dealer order number, dealer code and last name on their order. No Luck. I guess I will just have to wait for the VIN. Patience is not my one of my virtures. In any case, while I wait I wanted to know what the Priority Code on the order means. My order has a priority code of 19. Does anyone have any information that may prove helpful? Thanks for the help. akirby Posted February 23, 2017 Report Share Posted February 23, 2017 The lower the priority the better. Retail (presold) orders are supposed to be 10-19 and dealer stock is supposed to be 20+. If 2 orders from the same dealer have the same priority then they are built according to the order date (oldest first). If yours is the only retail order for a MKX from that dealer it will be built first. If there are other orders with a lower priority or the same priority 19 and an earlier order date theirs will be built first. Thanks for the help. @cafpaf Mine was ordered on 28 December 2016, although the plant was shut down until very early January. My dealer told me that my MKX is scheduled to be built this week and ETA is mid-March. He said that the plant is very busy in January because of the shutdown week combined with people having time to shop and order cars. When they get back on the line in January there is usually a bigger, but very temporary, backlog. I didn't think the long wait would bother me, but it is starting to. I really want to get it here. cafpaf Posted February 24, 2017 Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 jbiggs: One of the things that I find interesting from a production standpoint is not only the amount of time it takes to process and build the order, but amount of time it takes to get the vehicle shipped to the appropriate dealership. For example, your car is schedule to be built this week, but it will take almost three weeks to get to you. That sound like a long time to me. I must admit that I do not understand all of the nuances of these things but from a layman's standpoint it seems like a long time to process, build and ship. akirby Posted February 24, 2017 Report Share Posted February 24, 2017 Part of the issue with the backlog has to do with dealer allocation. Dealers are only allocated a certain amount of vehicles in a certain time period to ensure all dealers get their fair share. If there are several orders ahead of yours then you might have to wait for 2 or 3 allocation cycles before it can be scheduled. The other issue is parts availability. They need to schedule the parts to be available at build time since they do a lot of Just In Time inventory. Shipping delays are typically due to rail car shortages in general and/or needing to batch vehicles for delivery to some locations. Ford doesn't have much control over it after they hand it over to the railroad. Same for getting it from the rail yard to the dealer on trucks. It's not cost effective to have a dedicated delivery system. Plus the process is really not geared to build special orders since 99% of what they build is dealer stock.. While most are dry, they are interesting. Especially the manufacturing, space (NASA), and technology videos. GM did a video back in the 70's on the vehicle delivery process. I wouldn't be surprised that transportation logistics hasn't changed much since then: Here's one on Ford vehicle production in the 60's. : Yes, I know I'm crazy for watching these, but I can't help myself....
