Rural_OC_MKX
I have a new 2016 MKX with the 22 way power seats. I have seen comments about problems with the MKX/Edge seat back cooling. I wondered if anyone with 22 way power seats in their 2016 MKX has working cooling in the seat backs.

Rural_OC_MKX
Thanks, I appreciate it. Being in southern California I don't get much freezing weather. I was just hoping that someone had a working 22 way seat. My seat cushion gets noticeably cool, but not the seat back.
punch-card
I know the edge has issue with heat on the upright of the seat not that this is the same seat. (see http://www.fordedgeforum.com ) I have the regular seats will make a test when it warms up here to see if the cooling works as expected..... NOTMY911
... My seat cushion gets noticeably cool, but not the seat back. It should. I tried both the heat and A/C and its hard to see the difference between the seat and the back. The cold was up all the way to the shoulder blade. As they are air driven, you can check to see if you got airflow by hanging a kleenex over the seat.
Bad tone
I have the 22 way seats and the ventilation works great on the bottom cushion, not so much on the seat back. I wonder if all the air bladders in the 22 way back get in the way...
NOTMY911
... I wonder if all the air bladders in the 22 way back get in the way... That could be it, when I did the test, all the bladders were at the minimum setting. I'll try it again (with different setting) and hopefully my laser thermomether can read the surface temperature. thisguy159
So that I'm clear ..I have the standard seats and I do not get back cooling. Is it supposed to cool the back on the base seats.
NOTMY911
So that I'm clear ..I have the standard seats and I do not get back cooling. Is it supposed to cool the back on the base seats. No, the Premium Leather-Trimmed Micro Perforated Heated and Cooled only comes as part of the Reserve 102A package. The 22-Way Adjustable Front Drive/Passenger Seat is an further option (91Q). thisguy159
Ok I have reserve and should be feeling the back cooled as well...I only feel the bottom.
NOTMY911
Do the kleenex test.
Rural_OC_MKX
I just tried the Kleenex test.with both seats set for high cooling (60 degree F ambient temperature). On the passenger seat bottom, the Kleenex floated like an air hockey puck. Driver seat, no noticeable movement (although I have felt cold before). Passenger seat back is blowing some air to move the Kleenex, drivers seat back might be. I can readily hear all of the fans except the driver's side seat bottom. It might just be quieter than the others, none of which are loud. Thanks for all of the feedback.
wbferrara
Finally got toasty enough here in San Diego to check out the cooled seats. Nothing. Driver or passenger. Seat or back. After checking here and the Edge forum, tried the Kleenex test today. Didn't budge, even at high setting. I could hear the blowers engage, but no apparent air motion on either side. Guessing it's a trip to the dealer? On a positive note, the AC has awesome output and cools quickly. Much better than previous Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit. Cosmos36
Agree on the A/C...first car I've owned that cooled/heated the rear passenger area via a console tunnel/vent system that is really functional.
BajaDan
We have the new MKX and a 2014 F250 with heated cooled seats. On both vehicles, the seat cushion cooling is noticeably better than the seat back. Assuming that the cooling source is located under the seat, this does not surprise me. I would rather have a cool back than a cool bottom though.
akirby
I believe the new design has a fan in both the seat bottom and seat back now.
thisguy159
I am having new modulators put in because the back was not cooling well. My dealer ordered the parts.
akirby
Illudium q-36 explosive space modulators?!? Edited April 23, 2016 by akirby drw1926
enigma-2
I believe Marvin referred to it as a "Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator". Should be able to pick one up cheap at the Pawn Stars site.

catzpyjamas
I noticed my drivers seat only cools the bottom, the back is not cooled at all on either of the front seats. I do have the 22 way power seats with massage option...I wonder if that is an issue. Either way...not overly impressed with the amount of glitches this Lincoln has. I expect a better car for the kind of money they ask for....
thisguy159
I have the same issue with the basic chairs, will be going back to the dealer this week. Completely disagree with your opinion on the issues very typical for any new car including lexus/toyota/honda.
catzpyjamas
The dealer ordered the parts and I have to take it in for them to be replaced. He said something about acuators being faulty. I just hate the whole fact I am bringing this car in so often for these repairs...for $60k you should expect a few years of driving before issues pop up that need dealer visits. thisguy159
I understand your frustrations but again these are gremlins that come with any new product car or not. For example if you have an iphone or android you will get a big release every year or so and through out the year they provide patches to correct software issues this is the same idea except here you have hardware too and on much more expensive (per unit) basis. I hate going back to the dealer but they don't argue, work on fixing it and give me a car. Edited June 7, 2016 by thisguy159
Rural_OC_MKX
Mine is going in tomorrow for another attempt to fix the lack of back cooling. I will report back when I get it back and have had a chance to test the repair.
