2018 MKX?

Thought I would share as the top image is mkx not mkx as the poster states. It's either a good Photoshop or well what the MKX will look like with the new grill. Either way it's good be close and it looks good.

We're only ~ 4 months pending production of the 2018 MKX and inside sources have been extremely quiet re: any facelift. The auto mags have been silent also, so who knows? I'm not optimistic of the new grill arriving in MY (2018). Similarly, I would bet that the sturdier 3.0 EcoBoost engine & 9-speed tranny combo will not debut in the MKX until MY 2019. I hope I'm wrong in favor of earlier introductions.

I hope you are right in that it will be 2019. I think you are 3 years feels right.

MKC will get that front end refresh mid 2018.

 

MKX will get the same but with additional smaller changes to the rear deck and horizontal LED light, transmission, HP options, and Sync connectivity but not until 2019

Just for kicks and hopefully some legit info regarding future models, engines, transmissions, etc., I scan the auto media websites. Over time, I've noted that many of these sites are obviously foreign-sourced and troubled by translation issues. Recently, I stumbled across a 2018 MKX preview dated 2/10/17 at www.newcarrumors.com that discussed the "metal and timber" interior trims, the engine "under the bonnet", etc. But the article's eye-catcher was a reference to the MKX's manufacturer as HONDA. So perhaps, we can look forward to an improvement of the MKX's assembly quality with the change of manufacturer, but I suggest we wait and see.

 

At any rate, as I await the appearance of the new dual induction version of the 2.7 engine in the MKX or alternatively, the 400HP/400TQ 3.0 version, I'll just keep putting around in my current 4,200+ pound  MKX getting 26-27 mpg (digitally) and reading more media reports for daily humor. BTW, after recently returning from a road trip and observing the copious numbers of vehicles on the highways with the whale-mouth egg crate grills, I am savoring the present 'wings' grill of the MKX more & more.

I never liked the big wing grill, but I think the smaller 2016 version on the MKX looks good. Totally agree with the whale-mouth egg crate grill being an eyesore for all other motorists.

It's funny how individual tastes differ.  I much prefer the "wings" grill to the new grill seen on other new Lincoln models.  The shape of the grills seem to borrow heavily from the Jaguar XF, but the grill itself, when you get close, looks like a sheet of soda can openings after you've flipped back the tab.  It would not deter me from buying an otherwise excellent car, but I like it just the way it is.

Yes, yes, yes...take me back to the days of cruisin' Beale Street in Memphis with my '51 Cadillac Coupe de Ville to the tunes of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Platters, Jo Stafford (plus too many others to mention) and literally cruisin' the Mud Island landing courting an evening date to accompany me in my runabout for a moonlight sojourn on the Mississippi River.

I sometimes wish I could drive my MKX into the Twilight Zone and magically appear behind the wheel of my 56 Ford Fairlane. Oh yahhh! Hot summer nights, windows down, one speaker radio, listening to the birth of rock and roll, the innocence, and moreover the ability to pop the hood and actually fix stuff myself!! I often wonder about the future of self driving cars and think "what a great idea BUT what a boring experience". 

 

I to think the winged grill stands out among the Audi look-a-likes, and yes you can always determine which online auto related sites are suspect just by reading the first few sentences. Wow.. and I thought my grammar was poor?

fredluke...I'll ditto your Fairlane memories in a stunning '57 black hardtop with the striking gold 'swoosh' down the sides & T-Bird Special engine. When weekday flying duties were completed at the Naval Air Station (Whidbey Island), it whisked me off to many weekend pleasures in the Pacific Northwest & SW Canada. Happy, carefree days in both of our postwar countries.

Maybe it's just me, but I like the looks of the current MKX a lot - including the grill.  Its simple and clean.  

 

Then again most of you hate the Lexus grill and I don't mind that either (don't love it, but don't mind it).

I really like the "wings" grill of my 2016 MKX as well.  

 

The "egg crate" look is common and unattractive, IMO.  

 

Hope they don't change the MKX to it...

Our MKX is called Chroma Quartz Crystal Silver, I think, though I don't see any of the silver when looking at it.  The color changes depending on light and angle, from sort of a tannish brown, to a mauvish, purplish shade, to a charcoal color; never the same from different views. It's a Black Label model that happened to be fully loaded with just about every option that we bought last month with about 5900 miles on it from a dealer in Chicago.  It will replace our Buick Enclave as my wife's car.  In the limited amount of time I've driven it, including an 800 mile trip, right after we got the car, I'm impressed with it, even though some of the "nanny" features like the vibrating steering wheel, lane change avoidance feature drives me crazy and is turned off anytime I get behind the wheel.  The other minor annoyance is the touch screen surface seems to show and magnify every single fingerprint to the point of not being able to see some of the screen in certain light.  I've put a packet of screen wipes in the console to wipe it off every couple of hours of driving. Love the massage seats which I put to great use during that 800 mile trip when I got stuck behind an accident for a couple of hours.

Back to the grill comments, I don't like the new grill design, no matter which model LIncoln it adorns, neither the shape of it nor the design of the grill openings or "teeth."  The shape is too generic, no character, the openings just don't look luxurious.  In general, most car makers have now decided that every model in their lineup has to look like every model in their lineup, just miniaturized.  Look at every model of BMW or Audi, so every model gets the identical grill.  It used to be that each model had an individualized design as well as a real name as opposed to a letter or number designation.  Everyone knows the name, Lincoln Continental, virtually no one outside of Lincoln owners can identify an MKX from an MKC from an MKZ from an MKT......

Good point tberb. I also don't like grills that look like "gills". (The absolute worst is the Lexus). Caddys usually have a good design, but I don't like the current crop. I like luxury cars that stick their noses up at other cars, sort of a "I own this road, now get out of my way".

It is not when changing lanes, it's in regular driving as you approach a line or the little bumps on the freeway.  As I understand it from reading the manual, a very small change in the distance to the lane separation whether lines or bumps will trigger the vibration.  And the blaring warnings on the freeway telling you that "you're tired, pull over and get some rest" or something to that effect is just nutty.  But these are minor, easily defeatable annoyances.

I find the new grill and look fantastic and I cannot decide which one I like better the current or new.  In fairness it looks awkward on the mkz and continental, which I like but thing the whole car looks a bit awkward.  Continental has the look and feel of Aurora/Riviera from the 90's little different look, good looking but good for the moment and will look stale in 2 or 3 years.  I digress, what I wish is that they got rid of all that chrome, make it look like brushed aluminum or something the chrome is annoying but I guess all you old farts like that stuff dreaming about your 57 this and 54 that.  I'm debating having the chrome somehow covered, not sure if painting it is the way to go or wrapping it but I wish i could find others that have done something similar to see what it would look like at chose the best elements.

thisguy...if you dislike chrome, just Google 'alternatives to vehicle chrome' for ideas from Hot Rod Club & other sources. Personally, I prefer satin, brushed, sandblasted, and machined surfaces a' la aviation metals.

Some of the gear-heads I hang out with drive all types of vehicles and they also admit that the winged grill makes a statement and defines the brand from the other makers.

 

I also agree with the display screen. Some time ago I posted the same issue. The MKX is the first vehicle I had where the screen is exposed to direct sunlight 60% of the time. I have had Sync vehicles since 2009. Adrenaline, F150s, and Edge. All the screens were slightly more vertical and countersunk with a bezel that shaded the top area of the display. Rarely had glare or fingerprints.

 

Getting back to 2019....I can remember when there were no computers, no robots, no cad machines, no electrostatic paint booths, no shared platform, no electronic anything and assembly lines that did not raise, lower, or flip the vehicle for ease of assembly.  Yet, we had auto makers offering incredible new designs yearly...yes, every year. Sometimes you couldn't recognize what brand just flew by your street because the changes in design were so dramatic. When I worked the line in the 60s we would all be sent home in July for 3-4 wks vacation. The tooling crews would work 24-7 changing the line and stations for the new vehicles. When we came back the line was empty of vehicles. My station was final assembly just before they are driven off. I remember all of us looking way down the line to catch a glimpse of the new front end. We would all say the same thing "what the hell is THAT" What is Ford thinking?"  We were so familiar building last years model and most of the time changes were radical. 

 

It was an exciting time for vehicles. Everyone looked forward to every Sept/Oct when the dealers received the new vehicles, always concealed with white covers so the public couldn't steel a peek. That was a time when I could quickly glance at ANY vehicle and tell you its production year. They were all totally different.

 

To my point....with all the technology today we are lucky to see a refresh every 4-6 years. That is why I could not tell you the production year of most vehicles today!
