norvalovit
I love the upcoming new grill. I am waiting until 2018, according to my dealer the MKX will receive the new grill.

Cosmos36
Just as with the boxy appearing 2018 Navigator, the 2019 MKX's vertical grill, tall hood, and flat fascia contributes to a vehicle resembling a graceless brick IMO.
thisguy159
Little dramatic there Cosmos same car with different grill and lights does not make a graceless brick.
enigma-2
Snoody. I kind like it. Need to move into the uppity market look. Like a Caddy. Paying 50 grand for transportation, you want it to say, "take your Toyota and shove it up your covfefe".
walkabout
I love the dying of the mkx. Honestly feel it is one of the better looking suvs on the road. I hope the 2019 addresses the interior quality issues (materials).
fredluke
I was told there will be MINOR changes to the interior. We all have our opinions with regards to the new 2019 look. The design will have to be very different and make a statement when compared to the current version. The MKX does stand alone with the winged grill and raised rear shoulders. When you see the front or rear of an MKC or MKX in the distance you know it's a Lincoln. The new look may take that away. So many SUVs front ends all have the same oval, round, one piece, two piece, or whatever egg crate grill. Again...IMO.
Ninja279
To make the car a winner they need to make the 2.7 TT the entry level engine and add twin Turbos to the 3.7 as the option. fredluke
fredluke
Ninja....I agree. Give the MKX the HP stature and reputation to compete with the German competition. If you said to Lincoln we need to compete directly with Audi. There is no doubt thier engineers could do that easily based upon similar retail pricing model for model. I'm not trying to place NA auto makers on a pedestal. But, it seems IMO that some buyers just want those rings, stars, badges regardless of the actual value for the $. My two sons said our business needed Honda Civics as estimating vehicles because they are the "BEST". These vehicles are abused and on the road continually. Civics are well over $30K CAD in Canada. I suggested the Ford Fiesta at $16K or a similar priced vehicle and see what happens. Ohhh no dad the Honda is the best. I know the Fiesta is just shy of a go-cart, but it's half the price! Well, after 3 years ask my sons now if branding really means much. We have three Fiestas, 2014 has 241,000 KM, the 15 has 171,000, and the 17 5k. Total repairs 0 just numerous sets of tires. You should always compare value. What does the MKX offer for the $. What does a Benz or Audi offer for the same $. That is the true way to compare vehicles. Don't come to me and say "well my BMR is a better vehicle because...." I'll say " I don't know, maybe, BUT it's $12K more!!!!". Just my opinion. Ninja279
Fredluke, I couldn't agree more. The old adage of you get what you pay for definitely does not ring true when talking about labels. Today's American car quality is easily as good as any foreign manufacturers, but don't have 10% added to the price for the designer label. Cosmos36
Rumor/speculation has it that the '19 MKX will have the 400HP/400TQ 3.0TT engine. That would be a win-win, especially since the 3.0 is a sturdier engine than the Gen 1 2.7. The 3.0TT would be detuned to ~ 350HP for 2WD. . tberg
Wow, I like horsepower as much as anyone else (probably more), I have a 600hp Jaguar XKR as my daily driver and 550hp 2900 lb. 1972 De Tomaso Pantera as my fun car, but I've not thought our 2016 MKX with the 2.7L TT was underpowered. In fact, for the size, weight, and suspension, I'm not sure I'd want more. The MKX competes nicely already in terms of appearance, features, horsepower, elegance and price, I would assume it's why each of us bought one. I'd much prefer the effort went into tightening up the suspension and handling than more power. Without that I wouldn't want the extra power. walkabout
I definitely don't think the mkx needs more power. The 2.7 is way more hp than is needed as is. Better mpg and wider seat bottoms would be higher in my list.
Ninja279
walkabout, While I an agree about the seats (they could even look at fixing the heating and cooling performance during the redesign ), I didn't even think about fuel consumption when I was looking at the car (not because I'm well off, but because I was looking at what I wanted in a car, not how much it was going to cost me to run it). As for power, I think the MKX would benefit greatly from some more cubic inches and ponies, with as tberg said, a re-tuned suspension system. The extra inches might actually improve the MPG as the engine would not work as hard moving the weight.
fredluke
Yes wider bottom seats is a must.
enigma-2
The 3.7l loaner I drove had more-than-enough horsepower. And I seriously doubt that we will be seeing a bigger engine in the CUV, not because of Ford's desire to do so, but rather the constraints of maintaining the fleet average. Wonder how many Fiesta's they need to sell for every Expedition? Granted the ECO series made huge inroads into allowing Ford to increase sales of the Edge; there are limits. Each gain in horsepower, each loss of mpg, it all adds up to fewer sales of SUV's and CUV's.
Cosmos36
Also in the 2019 MKX rumor/speculation mill is replacing the 3.7 engine with the available 4 cylinder 2.3EB engine. Also, the 3.0TT could be tuned to several choices of HP & TQ...it doesn't have to 400HP/400TQ. The major advantage of the 3.0TT engine is internal structural mods/strengthening, not HP/TQ (albeit Ford is very mum on releasing any early details...same with the dual port & direct injection induction systems in the 2.7TT & 5.0 V8. We can expect much more tech info & specs in conjunction with approaching auto shows). All of this would come into play re: CAFE. And, with the current administration, I wouldn't bet CAFE will be a constraint/exist in the future. I've already perused changing some investments to mitigate the possibility. .. walkabout
If the mkx is going to compete with the best in is class, or at least with is natural enemies (xt5 and rx) it needs to match those vehicles in all performance indicators (including mpg). However, I can live with the fuel economy. The narrow leg pinching seats will be a deal breaker when it's time to lease a new vehicle, however. thisguy159
To make the car a winner they need to make the 2.7 TT the entry level engine and add twin Turbos to the 3.7 as the option. Disagree it needs all three but all will be pointless w/o modern 8/9/10 speed trans which it shoudl get when it gets refreshed. EDIT: Actually with a new trans the 2.7 should get it into low 5's which should be sufficient and turbo 3.7 is not needed as the chassis would not match the power. MKX does not need to compete with the M5X or AMG Benz. Edit2: As far as seats, they need to do something about them but wider is not it longer maybe. They should be more supportive not a couch. Ninja279
I hope somebody in the Ford/Lincoln design team is taking notes. All good points that will only improve a nice vehicle
tberg
No offense to those that feel the need to "row" through 8-10-or 20 gears for that matter, but this craziness of having to have a gear shift for every 500 rpms or so is just nutty. The attempt to squeeze an extra few miles per tank of gas for CAFE standards is what motivates this, not performance parameters. Lexus already has a new 10 spd tranny, and I'm sure some manufacturer is already devising 12-15 speeds....MORE DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN BETTER!
Cosmos36
Agreed. With turbo engines putting out gobs of torque at 1700-3000 RPM (Ford's 2.7TT is a prime example), 8-10 speed transmissions are a solution looking for a problem. The general public is being enticed with the marketing of such trannys because it sells vehicles, not because they offer more of anything useful to the average driver...except higher initial & maintenance costs (and bragging rights). tberg
fredluke
More gear ratios = better mileage. Anyway to get the beast up to speed easier will save fuel. I heard the rear LED light is changing. Not the size or placement but more of the way it projects. Maybe two thinner neon-like lines of light within the fixture rather than the existing subtle glow. Also I think the entire light should be lit when braking.
