Gurgeh
I would be leary of a permanent disable of the s/s system. It seems like this would be a reason for Lincoln to void the warranty. I would only do it if you had some kind of guarantee that the warranty would not be affected. Otherwise, just turn the system off each time you start the engine, just like you would the radio or adjust the HVAC. I would not buy any vehicle that did not give you the option to turn the s/s off albeit temporarily. Many of the GM products do not have a s/s off button including the new Blazer and many more. ...and as Bad Tone noted above, totally unnecessary with the ability to configure "D" (defaults to on) and "S" (defaults to off) however you would like. That is one of the really nice features of the Nautilus. I have driven the new Q5 as a loaner and while its "D" and "S" do the same thing they are not that configurable. Bravo27
Guess shutting down the engine for 5 to 30 seconds, then starting up with a bust of fuel to 600RPM+ seems not only hard on the starter but not cost effective for mileage. I'm sure this has been studied before implemented but sounds like pennies saved at best.

akirby
There is no “burst of fuel” to start it back up and they use a different starter and other components to handle the added abuse. If it wasn’t for CAFE they probably wouldn’t bother but it does save a bit of fuel especially in heavy traffic. Bravo27
Adam
If you are like me you are sceptical but once you start driving a vehicle with A/SS you get a sense that there’s actual fuel being saved... Bravo27
Bad tone
I finally remembered to try it, and if you have Auto S/S on with Auto Hold off the engine restarts when you release the brake. It only restarts when the accelerator is pressed with Auto Hold on. Edited November 25, 2018 by Bad tone

When disabling the Start/Stop functionality, are you able to turn it off right after starting the engine and it remains off until the engine is turned off? Or must you turn off Start/Stop only after you shift into Drive and then turn it off every time you go back into drive even if you're in the same engine cycle? For example, if you are in Drive with the Start/Stop Override activated then shift to Park to Reverse and back to Drive, do you have to reactivate the Start/Stop override when you shift back into Drive? akirby
It stays off until you restart the vehicle. I leave mine on 98% of the time - it works great. NautiJeff and Bad tone 1

Thanks for clarifying. I'm trying to keep an open mind about it but when I've driven rental cars with this feature, I can't stand it...always feels like the car stalled. Some people decide they don't like it before they even try it. I didn't like it the first time I tried it either, but if you give it a chance and leave it on for a couple of weeks you'll probably find that you stop noticing it. The only time I've found that I want to disable it is if I'm making a quick sharp right or left turn - it takes a second or two for the steering assist to catch up after the engine restarts - or I'm in a stop and go situation with lots of short stops (drivethroughs e.g.). Otherwise I just let it go and it's fine. You may not like it and you can always use forscan or some other solution but give it a month or so and see what happens. Bad tone
I was skeptical about it at first, and found a way to easily remedy it, but in actuality it doesn't bother me if its on. While my road selection is S, so its off, I have actually turned it on when in traffic, etc., to save a little fuel. At least on the Nautilus, it's really seamless; you hardly notice anything but the quiet... Gurgeh
thisguy159
I hate, every vehicle that I have driven in I typically give it a try to see how it goes but ultimately turn it off where i can...Stupid Caddy's...I have driven probably 30 different cars with it and never once felt it was not intrusive and though I understand how one could get used to it, like anything else, I would prefer if I didn't have to. Luckily until my next vehicle I won't have to.
Gurgeh
It is important to remember, as Bad Tone notes, that you really have the best of both worlds in the MKX/Nautilus. You can use it in default off mode by using the very configurable S, or you can use it as default on by using D (which still allows you to turn it off during your drive time if you want). elijahbird7
it says nothing about this in the owner's manual, but when you use S in the 6-speed MKX transmission, it only goes to gear 5 no matter your speed. I found this out by watching what the tach was showing between the S and D at over 70 mph. I know some people were complaining about bad gas mileage and were using S, not knowing that was the reason, since it wasn't shifting into 6th gear. So, with the 8-Speed Nautilus does anyone know what gear is the top gear in the S mode?

Depends how you have it setup but if you keep the transmission in sport mode it's meant to use paddles as it keeps the higher gear all through the range. You can use S mode without the paddles - a lot of people drive it that way all the time because they like the throttle response. And it does lock out 6th gear on the MKX. Not sure about the 8 speed but I’d guess it locks out 7 and 8 since I think both are overdrive on the 8 speed.
Bad tone
With the 8 speed there is no lockout in S, if configured to normal. I’ve tried many variations and results are the same. If you have AWD and set S to “normal” it will use all 8 gears, ~40 mph per 1000 revs in high. If S was set to “sport” , maybe so, haven’t tried that.... It keeps it in 5th gear because of that throttle response that people like higher rev lower gear better throttle response.

It won’t go to 6th even if you’re coasting on the highway. And yes it’s done to keep the revs higher for better throttle response. So I think we’re saying the same thing. I don’t have CCD (FWD) so I don’t have the setting options for S and D modes, but from what you described you would have to set S to sport to get the same effect and then I bet it locks out 1 or 2 gears. elijahbird7
After figuring out how this worked on my 2016, for awhile I would use S as long as I was driving slower in local traffic, but when it got above 50 mph when headed out on the highway, I would just push the D button and it would shift to 6th gear. Didn't really use the S all that often after that anyway.

Lincoln can't void a warranty if you disable a feature. They could only refuse to pay for a problem that was directly caused by your alteration. That's pretty unlikely to occur, in this case.
