walkabout Posted June 18, 2018 Report Share Posted June 18, 2018 Thanks for the comment and suggestion. The new RDX is indeed something worth considering, if I can hold out that long. My pause is its 4 cylinder has less HP/torque than the MKX/Nautilus 2.7 6 cylinder and the transmission, at least according to C&D, is a little laggy. Plus their new touchpad infotainment system (that would be a withhold judgment until trying thing, as it might be great or might be difficult to get used to). As for the MKX/Nautilus seats, it was my understanding that the narrowness issue wasn't there in the upgraded comfort seat, though I had also heard the rumor that Lincoln planned to address that issue in the 2019 model. But I'll be out test driving this week (plan to look at both the MKX as a Nautilus stand-in and the Volvo XC60, just to have a real-world check on my impressions). If the MKX comfort seat is an issue, I'll certainly do as you suggest and wait a few more months to meet both the Nautilus and RDX in person, so to speak. The mkx seats are very tight on the rear end. It's probably the aspect of the car I dislike the most. I don't know if that will be fixed in the Nautilus. I'm skeptical though. I'd bet my left arm the interior materials will be nice too. There isn't an engine or there that compares to the 2.7T. So, you'd be giving up that component. Just saw online that the 2019 RDX is now hitting dealerships. I also checked out the Build Your Own feature on Acura's website, and two things struck me:1) Acura has made an incredible amount of tech standard. 2) There are only two real option packages (well, three, but two of them are either/or), making it virtually impossible to push the MSRP out of the 40s. I still don't think it is the car for me, but it is very, very price competitive. They did a nice job with this redesign. Lincoln's not as bad in the options proliferation price impact sphere as some like Mercedes, but it is very easy to push the MSRP of the MKX into the 60s. I always best the price I, but they're basically giving you a standard wholesale club price. Even with the typical dealer silliness for a new vehicle, the RDX is still almost $10,000 less. You won't have that supersweet 2.7T and you'd also miss out on Sync 3. But,I'm willing to bet it has a way nicer interior and most of the electronic doodads probably work better. Eventually, Ford is going to have to be aggressive with rebates to stay competitive. So, resale is going to be bad. I'll face the same choice next summer when I'm off lease. Cosmos36 Posted June 19, 2018 Report Share Posted June 19, 2018 My 2016 Select Plus is very low tech, has 18" wheels and navi that's never been used in 2 1/2 years, paid ~ $42K with all the features, including the 2.7TT (a must), that makes the smiles-per-miles more abundant than offered by any owned or rented car I've ever driven. I seriously considered ordering a 2019, but every time I hand wash, change oil, detail the interior, and stand back for a critical inspection, I think that the car of my future is sitting right before my eyes. I don't think more than a few people even remember Ralph Nader or the Corvair at this point. I thought it was a reference to Pappy Boyington's navy fighter jet but apparently the Navy got the name from 16th-18th century pirate ships. And, Pappy, whom I became acquainted with at an airshow many years ago, gained his Pacific ace fame flying gull-winged Vought-Sikorsky F4U Corsairs with Pratt-Whitney R-2800 2-row radial engines, not fighter jets which didn't appear in U.S. production until many years later. Lol There was a Corsa model of the Corvair, but no Corvair Corsair, unless somebody switched badges from a Ford Corsair to a Chevy Corvair. As I recall, Ford's Corsair was contemporaneous with Chevy's Corvair production. The vehicle name Corsair is patented by FoMoCo. Somewhat off-topic: back in the day as a student, when I was working for a university research department which required visits to remote Indiana data stations, I always reserved a motor pool Corvair because of their dexterity in fording streams, rear traction on slopes, etc. With their light front ends, easy steering was a pleasure in the absence of power steering.
