Second first impressions

Hello Adam, I was just wondering how you're getting along with your MKX? It's been a couple years since this post and I was wondering if you still like the car or any issues you're having, I just bought a used 2016 fully loaded with 24,000 miles on it

Sounds like one I just traded in a couple months ago!  ;)

What engine is in your MKX?

What was the production date of your MKX?

When I was researching there was some must haves for me, the first thing was the 2.7 twin turbo, second thing was all wheel drive, third thing was the Revel upgrade stereo, which to me sounds better than what they're putting in the 2019, that THX surround sound takes away from what that Revel stereo sounds like in the older ones, it might have just been me and that day, but I definitely think my 2016 sounds better than the showroom 2019 MKC stereo I listen to. 4 thing is it must have the 22 position seats, and the last thing, and I think you get this with one of the packages I just mentioned, must have adaptive steering. And yes you must have the later model of 2016 that allows the sync 3 upgrade, I'm not absolutely sure but I think even the younger 2016 models may give you the sync 3 ability to upgrade through the Wi-Fi download.

It's my understanding that the 2016 models that were equipped with Sync 2, upgrading to Sync 3 requires a hardware change. This site has a kit that will switch it over for $1500.

I dont think there was ever a Sync two but I think you are correct in the upgrade needed for those early 16 models that had the My Touch. My car was purchased in may 16 by first owner and the sticker says it has sync three. I am a little perplexed that only android auto is under settings and no apple car play, i am a android guy so no prob here.

It's not an upgrade per se more of a modification. As for car play you will need a new usb hub...the cars with sync 3 in 16 had a hub that do not work with CP. About $85.

Yes, this is what I remember seeing on a you tube about apple, thank God I dont need it! :)  Not a biggie though for sure 85 bucks.

Hey, I see you have the first year veloster came out. I bought one of those and that thing was fun!  I dont think the turbo was out that year but the paddle shifters made it fun and the Tech in that package is great, mainly the voice navigation blows a lot of nav systems away. I bought that crazy green color that 70percent of the population hated including my wife but i loved it!!

Yes, I still have the vehicle and am still happy with it. Too add to my list, it does leak a little bit of oil which happens to be a common issue with the 2.7 of the day. I have 5,800 kilometres on it to date but can’t recall the last time I drove it. A few weeks to a month I believe.

Nonetheless, I still think it’s a legitimate competitor in its segment and would recommend it to anyone shopping within it.

Glad you're still happy with it, I do not see how in the world you could put up with an oil leak though! I'm sure yours is still under warranty? If I had a drop of oil hit my garage, it would be in the shop until they find the problem., especially under warranty.!

Oh don’t worry... what oil got on my garage floor when I noticed the leak was scrubbed out on my hands and knees! I have a foil-lined beer flat under the pan now.

I will probably wait until it needs an oil change before having it fixed. And hopefully give my dealership time to become proficient at the repair.

Love it! LOL, no way it could just be a loose

There is now a service bulletin on the oil leak.  I had mine done in the first three weeks of ownership. No issues since.  It takes several days for the proper repair because of the procedure they need to follow and waiting for the parts.  I love my MKX so far and the Revel Audio.  Wish I had the new stop and go adaptive cruise that is in the Nautilus in Seattle traffic!

SSM 47265 2014-19 2.7 Liter Engines MKX and others. Day one, remove the plastic oil pan and let it drain overnight.  Day two, use brake parts cleaner to remove all traces of sealant. Clean off with prep wipes. Let it dry and prep it for new RTV sealant. Let it cure for at least 4 hours before adding oil.

Wow excellent information! When did that service bulletin hit? Is that a recall? Was yours leaking? Yeah stop and go adaptive cruise and Tighter Lane assist would be perfect! But I don't think they changed the lane assist in the Nautilus, and it seems like all the other Collision stuff is the same to.

A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is not a recall. It is a factory notice to dealers providing tips or additional repair instructions (sometimes supplemental to repair manuals) to dealer techs when addressing a known problem affecting vehicle operations/maintenance, e.g. leaking oil pans on 2.7 engines since introduction. This issue has been common but not widespread.

Got it thanks for the detailed explanation! I'm definitely going to keep an eye on my garage floor, if that repairs needed does it fall under the bumper to bumper for year, or the seven year?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Tritto

Was in Seattle couple of week's ago. Had some GREAT local brew at Snoqualmie Falls pass. Think it was True Brew beer. Ummmm good. Great home-made sausage as well.
