I read on a different forum if you upgrade your Sync-2 to Sync-3, the "as built" VIN check will not let you upgrade.

Sync checks for upgrades but the upgrade checks to see if your vehicle was originally equipped with Sync-3.

Read that there was a way around this, but I've since forgot the source. Might do a Google search.

I know this may sound a bit self-serving, but I'm happy with Sync-1. I really don't use it enough to desire more features and I don't link music on my phone or any of the other add-ons to want a more advanced system. (Except I did fall in love with the all-around camera views while driving and parking. Although that may have not part of the Sync-3 system). About all the features I really use are to make a call. Guess I can't remember all the various commands well enough to use those features.

While there are several here that swear on Sync-3, I can't help but wonder just how many only use just a superficial listing of commands and ignore the bulk (like me)?

Android auto is a serious game changer. The fact that I can be just driving along and then ask to navigate anywhere I want without touching the screen is huge. Or, I can think of a particular song, and Google will find and play. Add that in with the up-to-date info on EVERTHING (from a traffic problem to a favorite restaurant closing early that night) and is a paradigm shift.

And Enigma-2, not intended as a disagreement (because everybody is different) but I think back to my feet dragging on getting global entry/tsa precheck. Didn't see the point, but now that I have can't imagine why I would do without.

That is a lot like life with Sync 3. You don't see the benefit before but you'll never want to give it up once you have it.

It's not hard to remember commands with Google assistant, btw. All just natural language.

Imo, sync 3 and that ultra sweet 2.7t engine are the hours of this vehicle.

So I've been trying to use Android Auto. So far so good but I have a lot of music stored on my phone and I'm having trouble figuring out how to get Google to play it. There doesn't seem to be any way to browse music files on the screen. And half the time if I use a voice command it wants to play a Google radio station instead of the album on my phone.

How are people managing this? Sync 3 seems way better for music files.

I just use Sync 3 for music.

Then again I have an iphone.

Do voice commands work to play music on the phone when it's not connected to the car?  I would assume it would work the same way with AA.

Since posting this, I found a long thread on Google support, 400+ messages over 9 months, and it appears it's just broken due to Google trying to get you to sign up for their paid music service. Constantly wants to stream music instead of playing it from your phone when using Google assistant. I'll probably ditch AA and use Waze from my phone.

I'm a Microsoft guy and have shunned all Apple products since the 90s.  B) Unfortunately MS couldn't make a decent phone.

I started my career as a Unix programmer, therefore I hate Microsoft with a passion.   I'm not an apple zealot but I do like my ipad and iphone.  Probably for the same reason.  :)
