rst08tierney
Well, one week ago I dropped off my MKX at the dealer. They were in contact with Lincoln last Wednesday, but did not perform the testing that was prescribed yet, instead, choosing to work on another car that came in after mine, and required extensive work. To me, it would have made more sense to just knock out the test, then return to the bigger project while waiting again for more feedback from Lincoln. So... my car has just been sitting... in driving thunderstorms... with hail, in the lot. Just sitting, for a week. I special ordered it, finally took delivery, and had it for all of 10 days..... now I have a car payment due this week, on a vehicle I haven't been able to drive for over 2 weeks. I'm am beginning to get pissed off. Go sit down directly with the service manager and let him know how you feel. While there, inspect your car for hail damage. How far is the next closest dealership from you? VisionPilot

How far is the next closest dealership from you? Totally agree with rst08tierney. Talk to your service manager. The service manager at my local dealership knows how picky I am about my vehicles and always offers to keep my vehicles stored inside if it has to stay over night. When it comes to good customer service, I think a lot of times it's the dealership that is the problem and not necessarily the manufacturer - Lincoln in this case. Adam
Agree. The blame here should sit squarely on the dealership. For the repair process... I blame the manufacturer for the quality issue you are having with their engine. I would be climbing the walls if I were you. My X spends 90% of its life in my garage. mmoretti
Yup. Hope you don't already have damage. Look at it very closely in every light/angle and I would also check for the door leaks that others on this forum have had. If you're worried about seeing it later I would take it a step further and ask the SM to note (that car was parked outside in hail storms long term )on the service record in case you do miss something and they try to blame it on you later after you take it back. I've had to learn(the hard way) to protect myself from the bad Lincoln dealers I've dealt with. Get everything in writing. As of now, the car still has not been touched. It has been a week since they received guidance from Lincoln on the test they were to perform, and send back. They have not done anything. Instead, they have serviced other vehicles that came in after mine. I plan to go retrieve the car myself today. I will not give them the courtesy of sitting down with them first, as the last time I looked, the key fob was inside the vehicle, and obviously, left unlocked. I am beyond furious! The next dealer is actually MUCH closer to me, but they are the ones who's Ford service manager refused to replace the faulty clutch pack on my '14 Focus. That's why I went 25 miles further away to purchase the Lincoln. However, I guess I'll have to give the nearby Lincoln dealer another shot. I know you are upset but I wouldn't just take it without getting a service record and documentation for the visit. I'm speaking from experience. What if they actually did do something to it (tested it but have no idea so they are telling you they haven't looked at it to buy time) or after you take it you notice anything (damage from lot , anything) you will be responsible. I get the climbing the walls, my car is ALWAYS garaged too so I know how you feel. My car too sat outside in storms at a dealer for two weeks. Same thing for me, but worse yet this dealers lot was so ridiculously small and packed with Lincolns and fords that I could barely drive it back around the building and was terrified it would come back with door dings the cars were parked so close. My husband had to stop me too from driving down there (luckily it was over an hour away so it deterred me) and getting my car LOL. And they are leaving the FOB in there too? Sorry :-(. I would have a hard time controlling myself too but I seriously recommend you try to hold on and if you do want it back go in and explain to the SM and get a record for it. Even if they say you declined to leave it and will bring it back, get a record it was there. Good luck.

From what I understand, they aren't responsible for any damage sustained on their lot, me and my insurance company are. As for the service record, that is a good idea, I will see if I can get them to spit one out for me. But, I have sufficient ancillary evidence of the visit, including the loaner agreement I have now, screen caps from my Lincoln android app that show the car status hasn't changed in a week, etc.... enigma-2
As I understand it, they are not responsible for and damage from an act of nature (storm damage), but they are liable for any damage they cause. Once they accept the car, they become responsible (usually under state laws).
rst08tierney
So my rental has a very similar noise during cold starts but comes back 10 mins later while on the highway. Here is a video of the start. Will get the highway one later today. Again, only on cold starts Just sad. Only 3k miles on this one https://youtu.be/Czm373BxUTk

Wow, really? I didn't know that. If your car is parked on their lot for service and it gets damaged you are ultimately responsible? WOW again. Is that really true if a parking valet door dings your car? Now I'm really scared to leave my car at dealerships LOL and will always look out for what I just described (over crowded lots with cars being jockey ed in and out, I'm cringing) Again if its not that hard to go beyond ancillary evidence I would just ask for a record. It could haunt you down the line, again from my experience. They should record the service visit anyway even if you decide to take the vehicle back until they either have more time for it or more answers. Plus unfortunately your issue sounds a little extensive. Once they do get it inside and apart though it should stay inside until they fix it, so if you can hold on and get them to get it into service ASAP it should be protected the rest of the time. Good luck. Pray for no more rain/storms. VisionPilot

And the salt in the wound is it just sitting not getting repaired. That's what happened to me and makes the whole thing more nerve wracking - and your car is so new -sorry. In that case I would be watching the weather closely and politely going in there saying give me back my car until you can take it inside or when at least there are no storms on the horizon for a week. Or like the other person said, specifically ask them to put it inside, maybe they can. VisionPilot

Sorry I'm a little confused. Are you saying your noise is different from the cold rattle on start meaning two different problems(noises) entirely? Rstierney's rental as he describes also has a noise that comes back which I don't believe anyone else said happens on just the cold start problem. Which problem do you think yours has? Im very surprised on limited complaints on Lincolns 2.7 eco Platform with whats going on there. then again im sure the f150 out sells the mkx 5/1 or 7/1 regaurdless... VisionPilot
Well, I made an appt with another dealer (albeit 10 days out), and drove up to the dealer on Wednesday, shortly before noon, to pick up my car. I parked where I wouldn't be noticed by the service dept, and walked around the side of the building, around back, and to the other side where my car was parked. Snapped a photo showing the FOB was still in the same place, in the cup holder. Took a pic from the front to show it hadn't budged, and as I was looking at the hood for hail damage, the tech came out and opened the door to get in. Coincidence? Dunno, but I was only at my car a few seconds. I let him pull it into the service bay, and then walked over and spoke to the service writer I had been dealing with. I did not yell, or get angry. I was very calm, but matter of fact. The SW assured me that if I let them keep it, it would not leave the service bay until it was fixed, but that he couldn't blame me if I wanted to take it. I left it there for them to work on. I didn't even bother asking for an estimate as to how long it would take, as they will have to do whatever testing Lincoln prescribes to arrive at a diagnosis. I do know that once they commit to it being the camshaft timing phaser, that is about a 9 hour book job. VisionPilot
Got an update. Apparently they are going to order 2 replacement phasers..... bad news, they won't arrive until next week. More bad news, part of convincing me to leave the car with them yesterday, was their promise that the car would remain inside, in the service bay, until it was finished. Well, they are pushing it back outside until the parts arrive next week. Ugh.... this car was "new" for all of one week...... now it doesn't feel that way.
