It's cheap felt. Almost every American manufacturer uses it for their glove boxes and center consoles. You mentioned rubbing it with a rag, you could have made the situation worse.

Fully understand the risk and know how these systems work. Did you skip over the section where people actually brick their systems? I have over 20 years experience on reprogramming on board computers and using lock pick devices. Personally I wouldn't touch anything running on a sync system. Edit... I'm a very big fan of the sync 3 system. I just feel it's controls so much on theses rigs that it's much better to leave it alone. VMCs were much easier to fix 10 years ago by pulling a simple fuse and getting the bootloader to recover the software.

With how crummy service departments have been for Lincoln owners this screams disaster and voided warranty. This just gives dealers another reason not to perform warranty work regardless of state regulations.

Lincoln isn't alone when it comes to having issues

Ive shared this information in other threads but sice your leasing it won't matter much. If you ask, they typically will extend your bumper to bumper warranty to 10yr/100k with out hesitation. You might want to ask now. You could turn a profit selling the X instead of turning it in lease end but I think we both know depreciation Will be tremendous on these. An apology may be stretching it because that would mean someone would be assuming guilt. When you finally take delivery of your X again don't forget to look over everything. Especially the Drivers door jamb, USB ports and most importantly your leather seating. -
My MKX has been at the dealer for 15 of the last 30 days
rst08tierney replied to walkabout's topic in 2016 MKX
One of my main reasons for pulling the trigger on the X was for the "Lincoln Promise". A commitment to something better then average but they fell dramatically short in every aspect advertised. Build Quality - Fail Dealer Experience - Fail Lincoln Customer Service - Fail American Luxury Brand - Not even close -
Lincoln isn't alone when it comes to having issues

I get it. All brands have issues but this is a poor attempt. For how few mkxs have been sold the number of reported fit and finish issues are staggering. Do a basic Google search. Read review articles. Toyota camrys also max out under 30k, avalon under 40k. The mkx is over 60k. Like everyone else states. You just expect more for your money. -

Should have mentioned I'm in California. Probably ¾ of the problem right there. My experiences and shared experiences from others have been with very large dealers. I could actually see a small town town dealer caring more. -

Most dealerships could care less. They are in the bussiness to sell cars fist. The repair side of the bussiness is a major thorn in their behinds. To make my point the owner of the dealership I delt with refused to give me a new x off their lot after being told to by compliance control. This all happened in person with two representatives flying out from Michigan to address my situation. Owner could care less because he knows at the end of the day Ford/Lincoln RAV would step in and cost him nothing. Service departs get terrible reviews everywhere for a reason. There's zero repercussions except a crummy yelp review that gets swept under the mat by recycling service writers every 6 months Your time needs to be spent pushing to get things done on a corporate level. They seem to be the only ones who care about protecting this tarnished brand . -

Lincoln isn't alone when it comes to having issues
rst08tierney replied to mfam16's topic in 2016 MKX
I have a feeling you hit the nail on the head. You would expect a good dealer to take the time and actually use the PDI as a tool vs the PDI as hurdle. If more dealers took pride in inspections some of these superficial issues could be avoided but I have a feeling the dealerships are relying on the manufacture to get things correct right out of the gates. I live in a very large market. Los Angeles. Our dealers rack/stack and try to turn inventory out quickly with nominal ethic's or morals. (one dealership I visited added a mystery $995 to every Lincoln on the lot) Im not sure how much red tapes involved in a dealer refusing a vehicle directly from the manufacture? -

F paces seem to be plagued by a factory flood mid production. Kept me away for now. They were forced to source new/old vendors on the fly for springs and electronics. (yes Ford was a vendor, surprised?) -
Probably wants to accurately post about his/her problems with the X. Whats real crazy on Lincolns face book page anything remotely negative gets deleted. Imagine if they invested the time and effort they do for damage control into quality control. The brand would thrive with out using smoke and mirrors. I feel bad. I really do. I love my country and want to support American brands. Hopefully they pull things together for 2017

Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Porsche. All considered major luxury brands in the cross over segment pride their builds on quality and craftsmanship. Most importantly it shows. If you read the propaganda Lincoln trys to unload on perspective buyers you would think they were trying to achieve what the other brands have. It's far from the case. Lincoln should never be mentioned on the same level as those brands.... Period

Lincoln screwed me coming and going with out even buying me a dinner. They approved my buy back, yes but made the process a bear to recoup my money. They tried to nickel and dime me on every aspect of the offer sheet until I was forced to get an attorney involved. I wasted precious time away from my family building a case that I can never get back. I think it's safe to say 90% of the individuals posting here net well over 6 figures a year and understand to make that type of money it takes time and sacrifice. Free time becomes the most valuable parts of our life. It's that free time being replaced by an avoidable situation I can never get back. I honestly hold everyone at Lincoln who touched my vehicle accountable. All those employees who half assed a days work and especially those hire up who felt my build quality was best effort. Sad part is auto manufacturers won't change. They never will with out the help of congress. If consumers were given the opportunity to return a vehicle between 30-60 days, quality control would change all together. Customer service would compleatly change and auto manufacturers would be forced to stand behind their products. Until you get to go through a buy back you'll never understand the stress, anger and emotion an individual will go through. My case is not isolated. I have proof on 47 x's through out southern California. The only reason more people arnt reporting these lemons online is the age demographic and lack of sales. Secondly lemons are swept under the rug because in order to receive your refund check your forced to sign a gag order.. . . . . Oh The Lovely World We Created
-
You can't compare a quality survey given to the smallest sample size in the class seriously can you? Especially when the demographic being asked to survey the vehicle doesn't even know how to turn on a computer or what to look for. And your post (first post ever by the way) is another reason members constantly point out the mod bias on this forum. Once the conversation goes anti Lincoln a new mystery poster creates an account to save the day. These one post ponys late to the show is just another perfect example of how Lincoln constantly cuts corners to screw the consumer. In the end.... It doesn't matter. I understand the auto industry. It's about one thing only. Greed.
-
I want to respond to this too. I know it's not directed twords me but what the heck. My hope is for the sucker who buys my lemon finds his way here. I left 3 hidden print outs through my MKX that leads them to this forum and all the issues their new X had/has. One in the owners manual, one in the spare and one tucked away behind the passenger side seat. Even if the buyer fits the current demographic of 57 years old I can only hope curiosity brings them here. I despise consumers constantly being ripped off by large corporations and not being educated enough to stand up for them selfs because they are afraid of the fight ahead. Hopefully people can learn through my negative experiences with the brand and steer clear of the disasters ahead. Personally if I were you I would be livid. Lincoln not only got you once, but twice. The sad part is your settling when your hard earned money deserves more. We all pick and choose our own battles and are able to live with certain things but a time comes where we need to be honest. The MKX is a well thought out option on paper that Lincoln has faild to produce properly. It's a defective vehicle. **side note***When I have a chance, I'll share pictures from the Los Angeles Auto show where they didn't even bother to bring an X in with proper body alignment or a side pillar that wasn't defective.

Would love to see a poll here on if you could return your mkx / mkc and get every payment and down payment back, who would do it.

I come from a long line on family purchases including BMW, Mercedes, Lexus. The luxury cross over segment is geared heavily twords women. A cross over to me is nothing more than a mini van with doors. Ive learned my lesson and understand 60k is Cheap for a "luxury" cross over. Lincoln on paper was the best bang for your buck that didn't look like a soccer moms wagon. I got my "I don't give 2 $hits mobile" and purchase a new Jeep Overland as I discussed in other threads. The fit and finish is near perfect and after a buy back I was extra critical. Sticker was almost 20k less than the MKX and is built sound. Of course it lacks in areas but it's surprised me in the quality department. I need reliable transportation that's family feasible and not falling apart after every drive or wash.
-
For most dropping 60k on a luxury vehicle we expect more. Everyone's expectations are different. We all chose to live with things to justify the purchase. I get it. Now its time to be honest. I've yet to see one mkx where body panels doors hood and trunk actually line up properly. I've walked multiple lots and have reported imo major fit and finish issues here and have seen approximately 47 x's that all share the same issues and that's only talking about the exterior. Ive provided Lincoln with over 1200 pictures to support my case during the buy back process of major fit and finish issues on all 47 vehicles. Their products a disgrace and a slap in the consumers face. Ford has no bussiness in the luxury car segment. For those who are pretending to love your mkx or mkc I applaud you because your able to sleep at night throwing away money on a vehicle that should be 25k less. There's no defense for shoddy manufacturing with evidence on every vehicle that leaves the plant. Lincolns still no more then Fords polished turd.
-
But as touched on earlier in this thread. Try building legos with a hang over or while drinking. I hold the supervisors responsible but then again if they can't find help, how can you even let employees go?
-
Fit and finish issues for a vehicle trying to establish its self as a true luxury brand is such a fail by Ford and will end up being the demise of the Lincoln brand.
