Seat back cooling on 22 way power seats

I just confirmed with Lincoln concierge that the cooled and heated air does come out of the seat bottom and seat backs.  I have an appointment to bring my in next week for the same issue

I just got a call from the dealer. They were told by Ford that this is in fact the way it is supposed to work. Poorly I might add....but that is the way they designed it. They even tried out the seats on other MKX in stock and found the same problem with them (bottom ice cold..back nothing)....Ford said that engineering says that is the way they work...WOW...so you make a faulty product and then tell your dealer that it is normal for it to work like that??

 

I wonder if the Lemon laws have anything to do with them denying it works incorrectly...its been 3x for the same issue with no resolution...but I am in canada and we have no lemon laws up here...maybe they are worried about U.S. customers asking for buy backs.

I believe that it is normal for the seatback to not cool as well as the seat bottom - it's much larger and the airflow is vertical.  I think the issue is the degree of the difference.

 

I also think Ford realizes the first fix they tried to do isn't working so they're probably reengineering it which will take some time.

Just a thought. Have you cheked the seat air filter to see if it's blocked or filled with dirt (limiting the airflow into the seat blower)?

 

Although unrelated, I notice on my 09 MKX, the seat bottom has more airflow than the backs (which, although present, is quite low).

I'm also having this problem and I have the 22 way massaging seats. I took it in and the dealer ordered new fans and seat cushions so I'll see if it helps at all. In the other MKXs that I've been in that didn't have the 22 way seats the seat back cooled fine and much faster than mine. I know the air filter is clean because I just had the interior detailed and I don't ever have much trash/dirt in my car. The back seats are hardly used and when they are no one is dirty.

Any help on how to check the filter in the seats?

It should be visible under the seat.  At least that's how the old style worked.

When I checked mine (09 MKX) I reached up under the seat from the back seat area (run the seat all the way fwd for easier access), and wiggled it off. It can be a little stinker to get off, but it will pull off. It's a round, plastic part, about 4" in dia. located approx center of the seat.

 

Mine weren't very dirty, apparently the previous owner didn't use a/c seats much and I just blew it out with air.

Yes, I posted both. I only included one picure as all three appeared to be the same.

Just took delivery of my July 13, 2016 build, and the seat backs do not blow air (or cool).  The bottoms work quite well.

I finally got my MKX back from the dealer. They told me that the factory "inadvertently" left pieces of fabric over both cooling fans underneath the seats. This was apparently preventing the fans from pulling air in and then putting air out in the seat. The difference now is amazing and I find myself lowering the intensity often. The seat back cools a little bit at the bottom but still not very much at the top. The seat cushion cools great too. Overall I'm impressed now to see how well the seats cool but a little disappointed that Lincoln can't make effective quality checks on a $60K+ car. It took long enough for them to build it and to still have issues like this which could've easily been prevented makes me want to rethink going with Lincoln. Nonetheless these seats are nice to have with the heat index often being over 100 degrees in Louisiana.

Dealer replaced parts in mine. I believe the seat cushions. Slightly better but nowhere near my mkz. Will be bringing it back for another look

I had a 2014 MKZ loaner and the seats didn't seem to cool any better than the ones in our MKX.

By the way, I noticed one additional consistent oddity (at least to me) between our MKX and the MKZ loaner. With the AC on auto, while it is cooling down, if I change the setting from 72 to 73 degrees it always reduces the fan speed. So even if I just got in the car on a 90 degree day, the fan speed reduces even though the interior is not even slightly close to the temperature setting. My previous Infiniti would only reduce the fan speed when the inside temperature approached the set temperature. This was great for getting the car cool in the shortest time.  I think Infiniti's approach makes more sense, by getting the car cooled as fast as possible to the temperature setting.

I also had a 2016 MKZ loaner this week. I also noted a significant fan speed change with a single degree change. But, the fan is MUCH stronger with greater airflow (at least compared to my 09 MKX) and cools the car down much faster. One other thing I noticed was, the fan turns down very low when I started to make a call. (Nice!)

 

Didn't like the interior layout however. Too much menu to do anything simple. (I like knobs).

After seeing this article I tested my 22 way seats this past week. The lower and upper parts of the seats cool everywhere the perforations are located.
