Cosmos36
With the 2019 Nautilus Job 1 date approaching in early September, are there forum members or other forum followers who anticipate leasing/purchasing or seriously considering the 2019 Nautilus (on a short list) during the 2019 model year period? Any commentary would be welcomed by forum participants...and perhaps Lincoln management also.
walkabout
My lease is up next summer. I'm considering the Nautilus. But, I'll need to see some major improvements to offset my concerns regarding lousy customer support.
Bravo27
I will most likely purchase the Nautilus when its available. I would like to see HUD as allot of the competition has included it as an option. The option of a 2.7L V6 definitely makes my decision easy purchasing the Nautilus. Also I see many competitors with a locking fuel door. Seems like a trivial thing but with a capless fuel filler system it must be a big expense. Timmer
Love, love LOVE the MKX. In fact I traded in my 2016 Reserve on a 2018 Black Label. I purposely did so to avoid being a guinea pig on the Nautilus job 1 build. A lesser factor is that it gave me another few years to enjoy the split wing grill, which is going away after the 2018 model year. I'm not a fan of the lincoln logo "egg carton" grill. Its an unsightly bug catcher IMHO... Man, that grill is going to be a nightmare to keep clean. My $0.02 Timmer Cosmos36
Cosmos36
Timmer...we're in agreement on a number of MKX features, i.e. the marvelous hi-tech 2.7TT which uniquely combines several custom engine designs from NASCAR, Indy, etc. and the split wing grill which provides almost singular elegance in an abundance of egg crate grills almost across the entire automotive spectrum of brands. As to Job 1 issues, even with an early build (September 2015), my custom ordered Select Plus arrived in nearly flawless shape. When I ordered, I was nervous after viewing some of the early arrivals at dealers (especially following the total disappearance of some VINs at Oakville), but all was satisfactory with my '16 MKX. With three vehicles, my MKX is of such low mileage accompanying a high smiles-per-mile ratio, that I'm resisting the urge to acquire a '19 Nautilus. I'll await the next gen to see what Lincoln offers. For now, I'm satisfied to label the MKX the best vehicle of a lifetime I've ever owned (the list of previous new import & domestic vehicles I've owned is extensive), however I've never owned, nor will I, a Chrysler product. prime time
I've been kicking tires on the MKX since the 2017 model year. I held off hoping for the HUD on the 2018's witch never materialized. Then came the restyled Nautilus further postponing a purchase. Just yesterday I sold our 5 x 9 aluminum utility trailer that I can't pull with the Lexus GS so a hitch is no longer required. Both brothers in law bought 2018 MKXs this spring to avoid the turbos ( go figure ). I don't know when the next gen is due out but I am going to wait, again. I'm not sold on the interior of the Lincoln yet, especially the center stack as I still see my brother's Edge when I look at it. I'm not ready to give up my Lexus yet. I know the Navigation is not up to snuff but it is workable for my needs. I love driving that car but miss the utility of a CU/SUV.
akirby
especially the center stack as I still see my brother's Edge when I look at it. Are you just talking about sync 3? Because everything else is completely different.
akirby
We're happy with our 2016 MKX Reserve, although after driving my F150 the last few months it feels a lot smaller. I'd really like to look at a 2020 Explorer/Aviator plug in hybrid but we'll probably wait a few years. There is a used red Porsche boxster somewhere with my name on it. MKXMark
I wanted to wait for the Nautilus to get the new front end to match the MKZ's. The current split-wing looks good but I really like the new look. Unfortunately my wife's vehicle was at end-of-life so we got a leftover 2017 MKX. prime time
Are you just talking about sync 3? Because everything else is completely different. To me they are visually similar from the top dash storage to the flow to the console. Looks the same black plastic with silver trim, vents are moved but they should have kept the shifter in the MKX. Some style along the lines of the new Aviator would have been nice. I would have liked to deal but I'll wait for now. I only have about 53,000 kms. or 33,000 miles on my Lexus and have already taken the big depreciation hit so no need to rush.
MKXMark
I don't miss the shifter at all and like the open center console, but the gear selector buttons need to be upgraded to a better material (which they are doing with Nav/Avi). If that's the criteria then that covers probably half of the competitors out there - black plastic with chrome trim. But I see your point. Rick65inlosangeles
Yes, will order a '19 sometime after the first of the year. BUT, i don't want the 20" wheels and low-profile tires which at this point is listed as standard on the '19 Reserve.
Gurgeh
Yes, will order a '19 sometime after the first of the year. BUT, i don't want the 20" wheels and low-profile tires which at this point is listed as standard on the '19 Reserve. It's actually worse than that. If you want the upgraded audio or headlights, you have to get the 21" wheels as well. I've been pretty quiet in this forum lately, and really should change my "current vehicle" info, as this is one of the reasons I've about decided not to go with the Nautilus, as much as I wanted to do so. I may hold out just a couple or three months more to test drive the Nautilus when it hits dealer lots, but the "date night" extended drive I had with the MKX as a stand-in did not go well with the wife, who found the seats too narrow and the ride inferior to our 2016 Q5. I love that engine, but I too found the drive a little less engaging that I would have hoped. Maybe the Nautilus seats for 2019 will be a smidge wider (there's plenty of room for them to do so) and maybe the 8-speed transmission will make a big difference in drivability. But as things stand right now it looks like I'll either be going with a factory order on a new 2019 Q5 (with the standard, not sport seats) or Jaguar F-Pace (the 30t, not the S, which only comes with sport seats). The thing is, both of those have in-line turbo 4s, inferior engines to that sweet V6 2.7tt. Oh well... walkabout
Gurgeh, I don't think the seats will be wider. My understanding is that they are simply going to make the bolsters less pronounced. Imo, the bottoms of the 22 seat are ridiculously narrow. A few competitors (like the Lexus NX) have similar issues. I like the road dynamics of the Lincoln quite a bit. I have other concerns, but to each his own. Audi is a fine choice and will be on my shopping list.
Gurgeh
Walkabout, less pronounced bolsters might do the trick. And as for road dynamics, it might just be because I'm used to the driving dynamics of a smaller crossover, my 2016 Q5. Though the F-Pace (all tuned for sporty driving, with a more harsh ride) is a similar size to the MKX but doesn't feel like it. The F-Pace, remarkably for its size, is actually lighter than the smaller Q5 because of all the aluminum they use in the suspension and body panels. It also has a lower center of gravity and rear-biased AWD. But that ride *is* on the rough side (and it's interior isn't as quiet as the Lincoln or Audi -- I think they might also be saving weight on sound dampening glass). I might still give the Nautilus one last look when it hits the streets, but 21" wheels? What were they thinking!
Cosmos36
I might still give the Nautilus one last look when it hits the streets, but 21" wheels? What were they thinking! Totally agree...Lincoln's rationale on that decision is absolutely absent. Yesterday, all four of my 18 inch wheels dropped into a pavement construction excavation with such an impact that I felt certain would have cracked one or more rims or blown out a tire. Fortunately, an inspection proved all was well, but with 21 inchers some damage would have likely occurred to wheels and/or tires. MKXMark
Maybe make a wheel/tire swap part of the deal?
Cosmos36
Maybe make a wheel/tire swap part of the deal? Yes, with a reasonable ($$) settlement & a cooperative dealer, others have successfully pursued this course. You may do the swap with an aftermarket vendor also. I believe the dealer can program the vehicle's management module to correct the speedometer/odometer if necessary.
walkabout
I have the 21 inch wheels. I still think the ride is fine. I'm general, I think wide low profile tours are pointless and impractical. The 21" have not been hard to live with but they offer little benefit and exact a modest penalty.

The only time I cracked a wheel was with a 17 inch tire. No problems with the 21 inches although I think tires that wide are silly.

Perhaps, but low profile sidewall blowouts & cuts from road debris on current & past vehicles with no spare tires seem to have instilled a bit of caution in me that the pitiful can of OEM sealant doesn't quite alleviate. akirby
Low profile tires on an suv do seem pretty dumb to me. That's one difference between a true SUV and a crossover. Although that line is also a little blurry. I mean - who's really going to take their MKX/Nautilus offroad on anything more than a gravel or dirt road?
