VisionPilot Posted March 6, 2018 Report Share Posted March 6, 2018 (edited) Well, I've been driving my brother's 2017 loaded Audi Q7 for the last several days, including an 1100 mile road trip, and frankly, it makes my fully loaded MKX Reserve seem like a Yugo. His Q7 has all wheel steering, along with the adjustable air suspension, and all the bells and whistles. The ride is absolutely sublime, quiet and solid. There are absolutely no squeaks from the cabin, which is immaculate. Wind? Can't tell from inside the car. Materials, interior/exterior alignment and fit, and especially the technologies, are all far superior. The HUD and night vision are very nice to have. The only things it lacks, that I truly enjoy on the MKX, are the Auto Hold (brake) function; and the MKX' Sport mode is definitely more buttoned down, and responsive than the Q7's "Dynmaic" mode. Don't get me wrong, I really like my MKX, especially outward appearance compared to the Q7's redesign, which looks like an elevated station wagon. But after driving around in this Q7, then getting back in my MKX, the differences are readily apparent. The MKX is far outclassed by the Audi. Granted, he paid over $80k for it, but still...... But, I plan on going the opposite route, and dumping the MKX for the redesigned 2019 Jetta (poor man's A4). Turns out that I like money more than a (pseudo) luxury car. That’s still a $16K difference but more like $20K street price. That should buy you a lot better feel and materials. MKX cannot compete with the Germans here or sweds it's more in line with Acura and lexus. Q7 is fantastic and it's the next class up. I would say q7 is to mkx what mkx is to Buick. Sadly what ford hasn't done yet even with cars like continental is to remove all of the cheaper ford stuff out of their cars. My turn signal should not feel like the one in a 20k car or shift pedals or climate control etc. Black label has tons of beautiful leather and finish but the turn signal stalk sill feels cheap. walkabout Posted March 8, 2018 Report Share Posted March 8, 2018 In price, the MKX is more competition for the Q5 than the Q7. Honestly, I think the MKX does compete well with those vehicles in a few regards: engine (sorry, but I still think the 2.7t is one of the world's best engines), sounds system,suv handling and ride. Fit and finish, the mkx isn't in the same universe as audi. Heck, I don't think the mkx is a giant leap beyond buick and gmc in those regards. My lease is up in 15 months.
