2019 Lincoln Nautilus

I understand why you guys are making that argument. Rx, xt5, and mkx are in the same market niche.

I just don't think a lot of folk seriously cross shop the two though. If you have an active lifestyle, the Rx is to in storage space to be workable. I would also very that the demographics of purchasers are different, with mkx being older and more male.

They’re direct competitors in that they’re the same basic size and price range with similar features. The demographics of the buyers isn’t all that relevant. Anyone looking for a luxury 5 seat SUV in that price range would consider both unless they have brand bias.

I see where you are going there but that's like saying Malibu didn't compete with Accord because more people buy Accord. The are absolutely direct competition. The reason Lexus does better it's because better reputation better quality still and the rotation Lincoln has... Basically old farts driving them. Oh and the recent growth of Lincoln sales especially with mkc and mkx are primarily driven by women with whom both vehicles have been very popular.

First post and a good spot to jump in. I currently own a 2014 Lexus GS350 AWD and have been cross shopping several brands for an SUV. I love the GS, the Lexus quality and reliability having no issues other than general maintenance. I miss the utility of my previous Venza. As much as I would like to stay with Lexus I can't handle the looks of the redesigned RX. I've driven one finding them cumbersome and no fun in a parking lot. Nice interior, but that gaping maw of a grill, no thanks. My brother and his buddy both have a /15 Edge and had me out in the /17 MKX for a test run.  Close but not there yet, missing a few goodies like the HUD that I like. So I held out for the 2018's. It now looks like I will be waiting for the 2019's with hopes of a HUD. The upcoming changes sound good. The longer I have lurked here, the more niggling problems are found on the MKX. I am now passing the best time to deal my Lexus without  a suitable replacement. I still think the new Nautilus is the way to go ( I agree lose the side nameplate badging ) compared to other brands. I hope Lincoln gets their act together on the quality control. Blind side monitor issues with no fix, ventilated seats et al? Give me a break. The Canadian option packages can run up the price quickly on these. I'm just about ready to jump in but the water still needs to warm up a little.

^ no HUD for 2019. The Nautilus is a 2019 model. You mean 2020 model year.

What issues with BLIS are you referring to? Some people (not me on either ‘16 X) seem to be having issues with the ultrasonic sensors though.

I would bet a month's SS check that Lincoln will announce (in their usually casual, stealthy manner) some news regarding Nautilus engine choices between now and next fall. As it now stands, the only V6 mentioned is the 1st gen 2.7. But in the wings is a mix of four (4) other available TT, dual injected, and/or NA V6 engines including 2.7, 3.3, and 3.5 liter displacements. A 3.0 liter diesel is an unlikely 5th possibility. Stay tuned.

Maybe since the 3.5 V6 is already in production and in the building at the Oakville assembly plant, perhaps they will use it.  I think this would be a good option for those of us who want the non turbo option.  Let's face it, for many of us, turbos do not have reputation for longevity or reliability no matter what you hear.

I just saw the Nautilus at the LA autoshow. They kept the vehicle locked so I could only see from the outside.

The exterior changes are mostly positive although not a big deal. The side mounted bling is hideous to put it mildly) but the front grill is nice.

Interior did not look a while lot different. It had the new steering wheel and a few new icons on buttons. The seats did not really look changed much.

If the bottom of the seat is a tad more comfy, I might give the car a good hard look.

I sat in some of the competition too. The new qx50 has insanely bad visibility. The new volvo xc60 was nice but it had a stupid tesla like screen in the middle with no buttons. I was mildly impressed by the audi q5 but it also had meh visibility the x3 wa real nice.

.

Every autoshow I come away impressed by the Subaru Outback and Ford Edge, I was this year as well. I also thought the Murano had a nicer interior than cards costing thousands more.

I'm hopeful the N. will be at the late January 2018 Portland Auto Show. Based on curiosity alone, there are several detail things I would be interested in checking out. For example, (1) the A-pillar windshield molding appears different, (2) the rear spoiler has reportedly been modified, but I don't detect it in photos, (3) is front seating design/ergonomics different, (4) any additional info on digital instrument cluster functions, (5) interior door panel design changes, and a collection of other features mentioned in media reviews without any details. There will be other features of special interest that only a test drive can confirm, e.g. less NVH with added insulation, 8-speed transmission performance, tech features, etc. I suspect there will be additional news re: engine options later next year as production commences.

Edit: Based on photos alone, I'm ambivalent about the side door/fender badging, but I noted from comparing side profile views of the current MKX and the Nautilus that the badging appears (to me) to add length to the N. Perhaps the stubby, upright profile of the Nautilus grill/fascia compared to the 'overbite' frontal side view of the MKX contributes to my perception. At any rate, I would prefer the badging to some alternative 'style' tinkering such as fake scoops, air intakes/vents, etc. I hate nonfunctional bling items added to vehicle exteriors.

Yes, that's very often the case. On one occasion I was able to get inside of a vehicle before the show officially started. It was a very disturbing experience to find several switches, hinges, panel openings, etc. that were not operational, i.e. just glued on, etc.

Sitting in the MKX at the Atlanta auto show 2 years ago is what swayed my wife to the MKX instead of the Edge.   The seats were way more comfortable and the interior had a different feel with the higher armrest/console.  Had it been new and we weren't able to sit in it we would probably have a Titanium Edge instead.

For multiple reasons, I understand why vehicles at advance showings are locked. Several years ago, the wife & I really got interested in an Oldsmobile Intrigue (she the styling, for me, the fantastic Olds 3.5 DOHC V6 'Shortstar' derived from the Cadillac V8 Northstar) concept car at a show. GM kept the new Intrigue locked for a period covering two model years of shows. Finally, we were able to inspect one in n' out at the dealer. Sometimes you just have to wait until the 'sell by' date to kick the tires.

I get all the reasons they don't want you to sit in these pre-production models but, In my wife's case it is key.  We are going to an auto show in January and she will get a car by May.  If she can't sit in it and it doesn't come out until the fall she won't wait (extend lease).  I think it's worth waiting for but seeing (and sitting in) is believing.

While not a completely new model, the Nautilus does has enough new drivetrain (transmission & engine) choices, tech features (electronics & driving aids), and exterior frontal appearance mods to warrant close scrutiny between competitive offerings. The interior trappings (dimensions, ergonomics, & aesthetics) are so similar that simply sitting in a N. wouldn't differ significantly from a current MY MKX. If Spring is a definitive date to make a lease decision, it appears that your only alternative would be to rent a vehicle until a Nautilus is available. It's certainly a dilemma faced often by some on the several forums that I view.
