Can I take my Lincoln MKX to a Ford dealer for warranty work?

The Lincoln dealers out here are dismal and there is a Ford dealer just a few miles from my house.

Would it make sense to try getting work done there?  I understand that they won't have loaners, but the dealer is next to the Metro station and I thought I might drop it off there and then take the train to work.

I believe so. The way our dealer is set up to the left is Ford and right is Lincoln. However, the area where they service the vehicles house both Ford & Lincoln with same techs working on both.

Also looking over warranty guide didn't really state one way or the other. See attached PDF

My alternator crapped out at 421 miles.  I was literally a mile from my local "Ford Only" dealer where I bought my 12 Mustang Gt convertible and my 13 F-150 Platinum.  I had a notice on my screen to "Check Charging System Now".  It was 1:00pm on a Saturday, and I didn't want to drive 11 miles to the Lincoln only dealer in case service was already closed.  I pulled in to the Ford dealer, parked outside, went to the service area, talked to one of the guys I know there, and he said they could do Lincoln warranty service, but it was Saturday, and two hours until service closes, so it may take awhile to get to it.  In about 20 minutes, they had diagnosed the problem as a faulty alternator.  They said they would order a replacement, and it should be in sometime Monday.  They drove me home, and late Monday, I got a call that the alternator just arrived, so it would be done Tuesday morning, and they would pick me up when it was ready.  By 10:00 Tuesday morning, I was out the door.  Not an easy job to get at the alternator on the 2.7.  They had to remove the A/C compressor and I don't know what else to get at it.....it was excellent service.

Quickest way to find out is to call explain reasons for giving them a try and see where the conversation goes.

That is what I did...  They all belong to the same association and they will not break the Cardinal rule of "stealing customer" from another association member.  Kind of an Exclusive Territory for any franchise comcept.

I wanted to take my MKX 13 to the dealership of the owner that was racing on the Porsche circuit, no dice.

Your Lincoln can be Lincoln Warranty Service anywhere in the US or Canada at any Ford dealership , no problem there.  Another story to have them take over the day to day maintenance from another dealership within the the same Exclusive Location Area.

We got 3 Lincoln dealers within a 20 miles radius for a population just about one million and good luck try to switch before the warranty is expired.

As they are now selling car below MSRP (up to 20% in GM case), they make their money on maintenance (even the one that are free - build-in the cost) and warranty repair and I can not really blame them, c'est la vie.

Ha! I knew akirby would know the answer to this.

You're a really great source of advice.

I did used to take my Acura to a Honda dealer, but only for oil changes, not warranty work.

Thanks for being helpful everybody.  Lincoln may suck, but this forum rocks.

I can only speak for myself.  But I had my warranty work done at the dealer which I purchased my two MKX’s from.  A  ‘10 and ’16, both of which I ordered.  Although the ’16 has had more problems (first year blues) they’ve done nice work and the loaners I’ve had were almost new (both MKC’s).  The dealer is Star Ford/Lincoln in Glendale and the service rep is Charlie Garcia.  Charlie has had thirty plus years working on Ford/Lincoln/Mercury service.

The service I've gotten at Star Ford had been laughably bad. They replaced my Sync 3 system, then returned it with two dead usb ports and a damaged console. Most of the time they don't even bother with fixing things, just claiming it is normal operation. Monday, they kept my car for ten hours before admitting they had ordered the wrong parts.

I also don't see having a loaner MKC for a week as a fair exchange. I'm paying the lease price for a loaded MKX and driving a much less expensive vehicle in the exchange.

I've harped about this in another posting. But that kind of service needs to be brought to the attention on the OWNER of this dealership. The service department needs to be called out over their bad work. Nine times out of ten the owner will side with the customer and you should not have to stand for this, it's your car, it's your money. (You have paid for proper service in the price of the car). If they are hiring people who are not qualified, the owner needs to know this; his wages are coming out of his pocket and he doesn't need someone on his patroll who generates bad customer relations.

Can't agree with your demand for a MKX as a loaner, as they did provide you with modern, safe and confortable transportation. I know it's not the same, but you have to assume some inconvenience while they make repairs. (Or lack thereof).

I don't have a problem with getting an MKX when they fix my car in a timely manner.  The first dealer who looked at the car returned it after EIGHT days concluding that no repairs were needed.  The second dealer kept it SEVEN days and returned it with more problems than I brought it to them with.  My car has been take off the road for roughly three weeks by the time all the follow-up visits were completed.

So, I was paying for a loaded MKX, but being relegated to a stripped MKC because of dealer incompetence and negligence for three weeks.  I do have a very big problem with that scenario.
