2017 Seat Upgrade - what’s required to swap in the 22-way seat?

Just acquired a 2017 MKX Reserve, which is great.  But the seat has a fairly short cushion, and I have fairly long legs.  I know the 22 - way seat alleviates this problem by allowing the cushion to lengthen. I have a line on a suitable seat from a salvage yard.  Do I need anything besides the seat to make this work?  Or is it essentially plug-and-play?

I have a 2017 reserve w/ 22 way seat and find that the seat cushion extension is so minimal that it is almost not noticeable!  Try one first before you spend the time and effort, IMHO.

When considering the purchase of the 22 way seat for the same reason as noted by Zumkopf, my comparison testing of the two options (22 way vs standard seating) led me to the same observations of jkoleh, i.e. the slight increase of the premium seat's cushion does not offer any significant improvement over the standard seat (which remains too short & too narrow).

No question it would be expensive, probably thousands if you buy retail. 

 

If I were you, I'd try something like this first. Inexpensive and gives a good feel if you would want to go further (with a more expensive, electric version).

I had the seat cheap enough so I went ahead and installed it.  Easy job (other than the weight of the things); there are two plugs, both fit perfectly.  The thigh extension is considerable.  At maximum extension it’s about 5” longer.  That’s the good news.  The bad news is that the massage mechanism seems weak to the point of irrelevance.  Also the seat does not register on the touchscreen.

The seat registering on the touchscreen is probably due to a setting in your car's profile. There is an aftermarket tool called Forscan that can change these settings. Ask around on Ford Edge forums for a list of known settings. Some of the sites maintain a spreadsheet.

 

A good, certified, independent mechanic will be able to back up your current settings and apply any changes needed to get the computers to recognize the seat. A Ford/Lincoln dealer might do it for you as well.

 

If you are near a larger city, there could be Auto repair shops that rebuild salvaged cars for resale in foreign and domestic markets. These kind of shops have experience resetting computers when equipment and parts are swapped out.

 

Start by trying to find if anyone can confirm this is a Forscan setting, and what the change should be. Then identify a way to make the change safely, and get a backup of your original settings so you can restore it is the change causes any problems.

Hi all

 

I have also swapped my seats to 22-inch ones. I have made changes via Forscan, but this is not enough to make it work (massage option).

We need to add a pair of wires called HS-CAN bus to seats in order for to SYNC see them.

 

Currently, my SYNC complains about 2 error codes: Lost communication with SCMG and SCMH modules.
