richy Posted July 17, 2017 Report Share Posted July 17, 2017 I've always done my own oil changes on my cars, including the '11 MKX for the last 6.5 years. The '16 was made in April of '16 and sat through 5 seasons. It was time to change it regardless of mileage. (only 1100 km now). I always run AMSOIL and ordered in their best synthetic and a wix filter. I watched a video of an F150 with the 2.7 EB and figured I was all set. The oil did seem to gush out quickly in the video but I thought my collection funnel and plastic container would work. (It has for every other car) When I removed the plug, I was dumbfounded at the terrific rate at which the oil dumped! It very quickly filled the funnel and then proceeded to overflow with Gusto! I bet at least 2 quarts skilled onto the floor. I was not a happy camper! Who changes their own oil on their EB? What collection container do you use that can handle the volume? akirby Posted July 17, 2017 Report Share Posted July 17, 2017 We have free maintenance on the MKX so I haven't tried it yet (also 3.7L), but on all the other vehicles I just use a large rubbermaid pan with an integrated oil filter holder - no funnel. pem Posted August 29, 2020 Report Share Posted August 29, 2020 It's worth investing in a proper plastic oil drain pain with a spout. These have a large opening and will capture all the oil without needing a funnel. The spout can then be used to pour the oil back into an empty oil container for recycling. I just get "The Works" twice a year (or so), dino/synthetic blend oil (up to 6 quarts), tire rotation, pressure check, fluids top off, inspection on belts, filters, hoses and driveline components. (They found a tie rod end during a oil change). Not a big fan of expensive oils, synthetic blend is fine for street use. Nothing better than Motorcraft filters (tested on Bob's The Oil Guy site. Vic W Posted January 7, 2021 Report Share Posted January 7, 2021 I unfortunately agree with getting old. I have always been a Mobil One fan and am a big believer in fully synth. It is all I use in my Thunderbird SuperCoupe or my wife MKZ 2.0 T. However it is overkill in a non turbo or non supercharged engine. A synth blend exceeds requirements in most all cases.
