The Evision competes with the MKC, not the MKX. Buick doesn't really have a direct competitor to the MKX. Midsized two row SUVs are limited.

Guys - I did not mean to suggest a one to one correspondence in where vehicles are in market segments. My point is that most people do not perceive Lincoln as a "prestige" brand. Basically, most Lincolns are upscale versions of Fords, in the same way that Buicks are either captive Opels or upscale versions of Chevys. I think Caddy does have a bit more brand cache. Note that I'm talking perceptions of the brand not actual quality.

In most American cities, Caddy had a much more well developed dealer network than Lincoln. I also think Caddy teens to be viewed as more upscale. Lincoln is closer to Buick, imo.

The sidebadge on the XT5 is pretty subtle and nowhere near as obnoxious as the new Nautilus I saw at the auto show. Hopefully, the production vehicle will not include that feature.

E-2, I totally agree with you about the side badges. And, the shame of it is that the MKC/MKX both offer wonderful styling. As per MPG, the Edge with the 2.0 gets roughly 25% better fuel economy than an Edge with the 2.7. So, I'm guessing the full picture will be in that range. We won't know for sure though because the new transmission and start/stop tech is not yet available.

Never miss the chance to rag on the Ford FI engines, do you? Learn a different tune. ALL Ford engines have excellent reliability. The 2.0L is not fragile, flimsy, or unreliable. You have no support for your perspective - all the data are in a different direction. Over, and over, and over again you take threads off topic by making up uninformed nonsense about the Fords engines. It gets real old. Back on topic: I had several MKCs as loaners and I was really surprised by how impressed I was. It did not get good reviews by Consumer Reports but it was an absolute pleasure to drive and I did like the styling quite a bit. I am one of those who liked the cat whisker front end. I also like the new grill too. On the love it or hate it scale, I'll probably lean toward "love it". I saw the Nautilus at the LA Auto show. Liked the front end - but HATED those hideous side badges. Overall, I though the previous gen MKC/MKX were two of the best looking vehicles in their classes. I bet that will continue with the new beak.

I think the 3 year old issue is why there is no variability. And, the findings that come up are not believable. In some years, I've seen brands that are almost certainly NOT reliable (like Jaguar) near the top.

Yes! I'm not a HUGE fan of the MKX because of all the nagging issues I've had. But, it would be hard to walk away from that engine.

MLT is beautiful and SYNC 3 needs to be cleaned up and refined? I never thought My Ford Touch deserved the abuse it got but it's crude, at best, by today's standard. I've had it in a few loaners (although not an mkx). Is honestly less elegant than what I had in my first generation Acura TSX. Sync 3 is probably one of the best systems out there.it had is snafus and usability quirks but there is a reason that it gets high consumer satisfaction ratings. I preferred iDrive in a lot of ways.

Android auto is a serious game changer. The fact that I can be just driving along and then ask to navigate anywhere I want without touching the screen is huge. Or, I can think of a particular song, and Google will find and play. Add that in with the up-to-date info on EVERTHING (from a traffic problem to a favorite restaurant closing early that night) and is a paradigm shift. And Enigma-2, not intended as a disagreement (because everybody is different) but I think back to my feet dragging on getting global entry/tsa precheck. Didn't see the point, but now that I have can't imagine why I would do without. That is a lot like life with Sync 3. You don't see the benefit before but you'll never want to give it up once you have it. It's not hard to remember commands with Google assistant, btw. All just natural language. Imo, sync 3 and that ultra sweet 2.7t engine are the hours of this vehicle.

I was in Ostrichland too. In a cycling nut. So, I got a hotel in Lompoc and did a 50 mile loop to Solvang. Timmer - the brushed metal around the speakers is standard with the high end revel system. Lower models can get that add a costly upgrade.

I drove it after. I know the engine is pretty powerful but it feels really slow. I though the interior materials were way better than lincoln. Also, CUE sucks.

Sigh. Walt, please don't hijack the threat and start another tedious brawl. In any case, EVERY Lincoln I've been in - and I've basically had everything but the new Continental as loaners at one point or another - has been waaaaaay to plasticky. IN all honesty, it wouldn't take that much to upgrade the cabin. A few more slabs of wood, leather where there is currently "pleather" , and some decent molded foam instead of that cheap plastic covering on top of the dash, and you've got a car that can compete with the best. I wonder if that issue is addressed by the BL.

Timmer, if you get a chance I'd love to hear you thoughts on interior materials in the BL vs Reserve. How big a difference is there? I honestly have no idea what the answer to that question is as I've not spent anytime in a BL.

Nope. You're incorrect. I just ran it again, checking if all options at carsdirect. The difference still comes to roughly $4000. And, that before adding the fancy paint color you did - which adds $1500. The difference in msrp is less relevant because nobody pays msrp (carsdirect returns a price that is equivalent to what you'd pay off you ordered at costco or some buying club). However, even with the flawed logic of configuring at lincoln.com and not charging yourself the penalty for paint color - you're still wrong. I also don't believe the BL is going to hold its value particularly well. The pattern, over the years, is the used mkxs go for only a bit more than a Ford Edge. And, in your case, you'll be driving around in a vehicle that had an obsolete engine. So, I think you'd take a huge hit on resale value one way or the other. In fact, I'd predict that a loaded edge sport with the more modern drivetrain would have higher market value as a used car than your bl. Not that I think resale value is all that important. If you're not going to keep a car long, you'd be better off leasing.

The price difference between similarly equiped reserve and BL is seven thousand dollars - not two thousand. I ran the configs on carsdirect.com, which I know to be a highly reliable site. I then went one step further and texted the sales guy I dealt with for my car. He said he doesn't offer better deals on one or the other but noted that BLs were hard to move because nobody wants to sink that much into a Lincoln. He also confirmed the numbers. So, you're just plain wrong, Walt. You may decide that a BL without a lot of features is a better value than a loaded reserve, but that's not the point. A BL is a big premium. Personally, if it means you'll enjoy your car a lot more,I think it's probably worth it. MKX has horrible depreciation so you shouldn't even but it thinking about resale. That said, when I asked the last dealer why he was offering so much less than kbb for my Acura, he suggested I sell my car to kbb instead of trading it (and yes, he was being sarcastic). In the real world, they go mostly by auction prices. They'll offer you just enough to sell it to auction and still turn a profit. They couldn't care less what KBB or any other site has to say.

The revel system is great but lots of cats have great stereo systems. You could have also had the revel in a MKX reserve, so it's not like you were forced into a BL. Not criticizing you, just saying you likely had a number of God reasons for your purchase. Personally, I do care about MPG. It's not about $ though. It's about being responsible.

Low response rates always bring bias. The people who do respond are not random. And few cars have stood problems in the first few years. Which is why, as you point out, there's no variability.

The engine is not the issue. Cr shows excellent reliability for Ford engines across sizes and type of induction. You can't generalize from the overall rating to the engine. The 2015 did have excellent reliability but it was long in the tooth. Ford tends to increase in reliability as the vehicle ages and they work out the bugs.
