My argument is that those other two vehicles are the natural enemies of the MKX/Nautilus. FwD based platforms derived from mass market vehicles. Lexus offers a few main advantages, customer support, name value, interior materials, mpg, and MAYBE ride comfort. XT5 offers only interior materials, mpg, and maybe name. The MKX is superior to those vehicles in terms of vehicle dynamics and had a vastly superior infotainment system. I don't think the engines in either are in the same universe as the glorious 2.7T, TBH. I believe the revisions will close the mpg gap. So, to me, the easy fixes are interior materials and customer service. Lincoln? Your move.

I did my graduate work at Vanderbilt (in Nashville) so I used to drive down that way a lot. Neat part of the country.

Cosmos36 - I think it is against forum rules for you to have two accounts. You are obviously also the poster known as WaltC. You're not fooling anybody, dude. I wonder why Ford doesn't put more hybrid drivetrains in these vehicles. What's they accomplished with the Fusion is very impressive.

Consumer Reports MPG are usually pretty dead on with my real world experience. They got 28 with the 2.7T on the MKX (AWD) and 31 with the 2.0 T on the Edge. In usual urban driving with the less efficient 3.7 NA engine, would likely be closer to 25. All of that is without the active grill shutters described in the OP, and it does not take into account all the nice changes that are likely coming in 2019. Those numbers are not great, but nobody should buy a 4000 pound SUV and expect great highway economy.

I actually wasn't accusing him of lying anyway. I wrote that we'd all know he was lying if he claimed 40 mpg. I still think the Edge is the best vehicle in its class, in terms of vehicle dynamics and I think the MKX is a much better buy than the XT5 (is most natural competitor). But, physics is physics and fuel economy is not a strength of Ford's SUV lineup. The MKX is the least fuel efficient vehicle I've owned.

Er, Dude, I do live in LA. The slow lane is not going to be where you are getting a constant 45 mph. The slow lane is where people are getting on and off and it can be basically stop and go. You're going to be lucky to get 18 mpg if you stay on the far right of the 405, 5, or 134. And, I'm sorry, but the stuff about getting 40 MPG is beyond ridiculous. That's not even in the league of reality. First of all, you don't even own a MKX - how in the world would you know what the real world MPG is? Second, you're dealing with an upright vehicle that weights more than 4000 pounds. Unless you're turning off the engine, dropping it into neutral, and cruising down the hills, you're not getting 40 mpg. My driving is mostly highway miles. I take the metro to work about 70% of the time, and I put about 12,000 miles on the car each year driving to hiking trailheads or taking my bike somewhere to go riding. Even with that use pattern, I am well short of 20 MPG overall. The MKX is a great vehicle for what it is. But, you're not even close if you're expecting 40 mpg on the highway. I don't even thing a FWD Edge with the 2.0T would get that kind of fuel economy.

You're not going to get vaguely close to 37mpg - at any speed - in an mkx. 30 mpg is pushing it.

It only happened once. Haven't had further problems.

walt, not that it matters what I think, but (IMO) you absolutely did the right thing going with AWD. I can't say I've driven the 3.7 too much, but in the 2.7, there is way too much torque for FWD. The FWD MKXs i tested, were like a different vehicle. Anyway, enjoy the purchase and congrats on having made a choice.

I guess it could have stalled. I didn't consider that because it never happened before. In fact, it's never happened with car I've owned in the last twenty years. I have to say that was scary as hell - being stuck in the middle of the highway like that.

Driving home from a weekend biking trip, I find myself in a clogged highway. I come to a full stop in traffic. As soon as it clears, I discover to my horror that I had somehow turned the engine off although car is still in D. I hit P, and a few terrifying seconds later, I got the car started again. My question:how the heck could that have happened?

The thing to remember, akirby, is that your not the target audience for Ford or Lincoln. What i mean by that is that you are way more sophisticated than most owners. The vehicles need to be built in such a way that an average owner will not encounter problems assuming reasonable maintenance and allowing for usual wear and tear and lifetime of parts. the service guy basically telling me he expected my battery to fail is not a good sign. I still say this vehicle is reasonably reliable, but that's another issue.

Update: Took it to the dealer. Service Rep: "If you have a Lincoln MKX, battery WILL fail within first few years." He said that most of the 2016s had already come back for battery replacements and said that the problem was impacting a few of the other Ford/Lincoln models in that time frame. The main problem being that the new cars are packed with electronics and the batteries can't handle the drain. The upside is that dealer and Lincoln emergency service were both quite responsive.

Sigh. Just had the same event. 1 3/4 into ownership and the battery is dead as a doornail.

It sounds to me like you have one of the modes set that changes tone. Go into the settings menu and make sure it is unchecked because the two special modes produce the exact pattern you are describing. I have the same system as the op and love it. I think both revel systems are fantastic.

I totally agree with ThisGuy. AA is great. Just stick with the twelve steps and you'll be sober in no time. Seriously, I use android auto all the time, mostly because Google maps is so good. I do prefer the graphics on the Ford nav system though.

Walt, the Acura was way less reliable. It had a lot more problems. The difference was that Acura actually dealt with the problems in a responsive manner. With the Mkx, I've mostly had trim issues. There was that one brake problem that was more serious. But, I can't believe that needed 8 days in the shop. I do like my mkx, but the dealer network (from what I've seen) in the LA area is a total joke.
