Sync 3 Problems in 2016 M.K.X. Potential purchasers beware!

Navigation unit update:

I took my car into the dealer yesterday for another attempt to solve the mysterious recurring navigation unit fault.  In my absence, another customer has been experiencing the same intermittent fault.  No one seems to know how to solve that issue either.

After picking up the loaner (which has Sync 3 and The Revel  audio unit just like mine) guess what happened.  It developed the same navigation fault message even though no route had been input.  Bluetooth also decided to drop the connection with the paired phone.

So now there are three documented failures just at this one dealer in one month.  I wonder how many more are happening that we don't know about?  Could it be that there are problems with Revel / Sync3 that Lincoln doesn't want to talk about?  The Navigation unit runs in the background all the time.  Maybe there is some problem in the integration of the bluetooth, audio, and navigation.  It would appear that it is not an isolated problem with one car.  Who knows?  Stay tuned.

Now we know the issue is not the car its you.  Stop routing the car into water.

Have you been able to determine when it happens specifically in each car to see a correlation, ie pressing these button in this order will result in...

All Lincoln boards have monitors paid by Lincoln, and some of them actively write entries hoping to minimize or discredit those who complain about their new car.  I hope you are not one of them.

Cute comment.  Interesting how some continually misdirect readers so Lincoln never owns the problem.  They blame the dealers and incompetent mechanics.  Some imply that " It is your imagination, it is not really happening".  "You must be doing something wrong".   Sometimes you hear "It wasn't documented properly on the R.O. so it didn't happen" or "Lincoln can't help you because it is against "franchisee laws"".

The bottom line is that Lincoln is the name over the door.  They warrant the product.  Why are Lincoln's engineers never held to account?  Could there be something wrong with their design or code?  They designed this stuff. Why don't they know what to do?  They are paid to know.  There is even a service bulletin about software problems relating to these issues, but no solution ever gets to where it needs to go.  Month after month goes by but nothing changes.  Ask the Lincoln owners with modem problems.  The blame is directed anywhere but at Lincoln.

To answer the question, the faults happen while driving down the road, with no input being made at all.  The faults have been documented both with photos and video.  The faults have also happened in the presence of dealer service writers and mechanics.  Lincoln has a problem with how this was engineered.  It has happened in different cars with the same audio and SYNC 3.  Three examples at one dealership over three weeks.  After as much as admitting that they don't know how to fix it, Lincoln's attitude seems to be. "Too bad, wait till we figure it out".  If avoidance and blame shifting is their only strategy, they won't stay in business for long.

So far I have received three surveys in the mail about my new car.  One from Maritz CX, one from Strategic Vision, and one from RDA Group.  Needless to say my ratings for infotainment and warranty were poor.  I'm with MMoretti.  It is just over the top.  And no, I did not "route the car into the water".

Nobody here is a paid Lincoln schill, especially not me. I just understand how the real world actually works as opposed to how you want it to work.

Just because you don't like franchise laws doesn't mean they aren't real and they do affect how Lincoln interacts with dealers.

Also nobody here has said Lincoln isn't to blame. We're just looking at this objectively which you're not able to do because you've clearly turned this into an emotional issue and you're never going to be happy about it.

It has nothing to do with franchise laws or being "happy".

Lincoln sells you a product and takes your money.  If significant problems arise Lincoln stalls and hopes that the clock will run out on various lemon laws.  In order to force them to provide the product they promised, you have to sue them.

Just because you believe that it is "real world" to just "take it",  You don't have to.  Lincoln is just betting that you won't sue.

You are correct that franchise laws determine how Lincoln and dealers interact.  Contract laws and lemon laws can also force Lincoln to make good on faulty products.

I have never seen or heard of Ford refusing to fix a problem under warranty when there was a known fix.

You're confusing their inability to diagnose the problem with unwillingness.

Now I do agree they should be trying harder to do something and if the problem can't be fixed they should buy you out.

VTK I somehow missed your update posts mixed in with the replies. I have been wondering how you have been making out with your situation.  I just got my car back after two weeks sitting at yet another dealership and 6 hours of my driving time to have them tell me AGAIN “no fix” “have to wait for Lincoln to write ANOTHER software update” which BTW did not work the first 5 times they told me this dating back to last July.  And guess what they don’t care.  Yes, in a few weeks I will STILL not have permanent fix and my car STILL sits without it working.  Lincoln will not admit there is no fix, they will keep stringing you along just like VTK says, and in my case keep telling you “oh, it will be fixed with the next software update”  Between the modem/BCM/My Lincoln Mobile App they have bounced me around to each saying wait for THAT update when the other update didn’t work.  Just re- engineering the car on my dime I guess, they  just want me to keep paying, real nice…

VTK How long has your issues been?

Couldn’t agree with you more about the “Lincoln” forum members.  I questioned in the MKC forum I used to participate in and called some people out as you MUST work for Lincoln or Ford because I cannot for the life of me figure out why someone would try to discredit or harass someone who is having problems with their car/dealer/Lincoln.  Why do they care, what’s the motivation there? They must either have some connection or have emotional problems themselves because I as a normal person would either offer that person help, express some well wishes, or just keep my mouth shut and say to myself “I’m sure glad I don’t have those problems” Hey that’s just me LOL   It’s nothing personal it’s a car-company but they feel this need to defend to a point of  saying people are making it up or make them out to be a complainer or my FAVORITE one of all.. “oh you’re too emotional” Always put it back on the owner right and deflect any responsibility on Lincoln’s part?  Hmmm, how did we get emotional?  I wonder…The disappointment phase is over for me now too, it goes beyond that at this point LOL. How about mad-angry-pissed off?  That’s what you would be too if you were me with 17 service visits in 16 months of ownership for multiple issues on top of an expensive option/feature not functioning like everyone else’s for 11 ½ months while being repeatedly lied to by both dealers and Lincoln.  Anger is an emotion and I am sure you all would reach that emotion at one point.

You put it perfectly with “Lincoln’s name is on the door”  They will try to put all the blame on the dealer and use them to hide behind issues.  Its ultimately their responsibility.

I have never seen or heard of Ford refusing to fix a problem under warranty when there was a known fix.

You're confusing their inability to diagnose the problem with unwillingness.

Now I do agree they should be trying harder to do something and if the problem can't be fixed they should buy you out.

They won’t buyback unless you hire a lawyer and spend your time and money which like VTK says they bet on you not doing.  All they will do is tell you to go back to the dealer time and again “so they can diagnose it for repair”, then they tell you they “didn’t see it”, “can’t diagnose it”, or “waiting on a update” that just buys them time and they don’t care and you just keep repeating the cycle indefinitely.  They just lie about the update to get you off their backs for months at a time so they don’t have to bother with you.   And I wont even get into my latest dealership "experience" What a joke.  Don't know how they expect to be a luxury brand.

Great service Lincoln, bravo!

Just wrong..

Good luck VTK, keep us posted.  You might have more hope then me.  They've blown me off until the end of the summer.  Just Awesome! And I don't even have a dealer to take it to, at least you have that going for you LOL.

Some of us understand the reality of the business world and we see things from both sides.  We understand that Lincoln can only go by what the dealership tells them and that they have virtually no control over bad dealers even though their name is on the building.   We understand that a company like Ford can't just buy back every vehicle that has a problem.   We understand that throwing parts at a problem where the root cause cannot be determined is wasteful and futile.

Being a 30 year IT professional who does NOT work for Ford I understand the difficulties in diagnosing and repairing software bugs that can't be easily reproduced.  I assume you don't have such experience so you can't comprehend how it would be so hard to come up with a software fix.  I've had bugs in my code that took 2 years to fix because it could not be recreated in a test lab.  That's just reality.

It doesn't mean we're not sympathetic to your problems or that we don't think Lincoln is responsible.   It doesn't mean that we think Lincoln is doing everything they should be doing.  It just means we're not as cynical as you are and we don't assume that Lincoln is lying and/or blowing you off.  It just means you have a really tough problem that has no known remedy yet.

There is a difference between saying "Lincoln should be more proactive here" and what you're saying.   You think Lincoln is lying to you but that's just your guess since you don't have any proof.   You say Lincoln doesn't buy back vehicles yet I saw first hand accounts of buy backs on at least 2 or 3 vehicles no questions asked within the last year due to water leaks.    You say Lincoln doesn't stand behind their vehicles yet they routinely extend warranties on certain bad parts.

Finally you said this in the same post:

to have them tell me AGAIN “no fix” “have to wait for Lincoln to write ANOTHER software update”

Lincoln will not admit there is no fix,

First you say they told you No Fix, then you say Lincoln will not admit there is no fix.   You're contradicting yourself.

And for the last time - we all hope you can get your vehicle fixed and we hope it happens sooner rather than later and we do think Lincoln could be more proactive in dealing with these situations.

Now stop questioning our motives just because we disagree with you.

Classic...are you sure you aren't in the mkc forum? There's a dude in there with 30 years in "IT" that repeats what you say about software updates. It's almost the same exact story with a similar attitude.

I'm not going to get into a back and forth with you and fight but I do need to comment on a few things.

First you shouldn't make assumptions about peoples' backgrounds, experiences, and real world experience and assume you know more and "think" you understand more

Guess what, I have 25 years experience in IT. Working for real 12 billion dollar companies such as Virgin Atlantic, Cadbury Schweppes, and the US department of defense. I also spent a number of years as a consultant/project manager for Fortune 500 companies.

I don't know what "real world" or "IT" you and the other guy work in but let me tell you about mine. If me and my team could not find a solution in almost a year me and my team would be bounced out on our you know whats.... And when working as a consultant if I strung my client along for months, guess what, they would no longer be my client. I have a responsibility and there's REAL accountability in MY world. So where do you come from with your "we know the real world" comment? No I do not agree it's reasonable to wait 11 months and multiple "updates" that are unsuccessful before Lincoln concedes they can't fix it because I'm not sure how long you have been out of "IT" and what type of job you had but I can tell you the days where fixes and software updates take a year are LONG gone. Updates are out within weeks when necessary, months at best. Money is on the line. It doesn't work that way anymore. Heads roll if things don't work. So we make them work. That my world.

How long do you think I should be paying for an option that doesn't work? $6995 cost for that option and the only way to get it. Indefinitely while Lincoln literally engineers their mistakes? With no compensation just more out of pocket and wear and tear on other parts of the vehicle not to mention a ridiculous amount of my personal time? One year? Two years? Maybe you don't care about the use or use the system like I do. What if an expensive option you use a lot was non operational for a year while you paid? if I wasn't going to have use of my remote system then I would have saved myself the 7k, simple.

Try reading my posts again, Lincoln just told me at my 17tn service appointment that they have no fix for my problem right now and have to rewrite software again. They are "estimating" this "may" be sometime at the end of the summer. This translates to they have no idea. So they have no current fix. I did not contradict myself. There we go again, I must be making it up... I have had no permanent fix for 11 months, 3 weeks. It temporarily was fixed or "appeared" fixed for a short time after a modem was replaced a second time. Some functionality had been returned. It has not worked consistently- completely for just under one year and it currently is not fully functional and fixed right now. Perhaps that's your confusion with me saying it was fixed.

You clearly misunderstand my comment " Lincoln will not admit there's no fix". Think about the context - if Lincoln keeps saying there "is" or "will be" a fix then they don't HAVE to admit they can't fix it and thus buy back the car. Hmmm. See how that works? So just like vtk says keep stringing you a long until you fall out of lemon law time frame. If you think some of this is not purposeful from Lincoln then you are quite naive.

Once again in my IT world I could never ever get away with spinning my wheels and wasting my clients time and money this long while they are still down. I'm done with Lincoln spinning their wheels on this, at some point they have to either fix it or refund our money to which they are doing neither.

What do you know about the details of these buy backs you speak of? Do share... Lawyer? Full refund? Only a replacement? Because the two stories I have direct knowledge about the details in the mkc buy backs involved a lawyer (for a leak that Lincoln denied and ultimately there was a tsb released for a bad seal when they FINALLY figured out the problem over one year later). They refused to do anything until he hired a lawyer. The second case involved someone who had 6 months of battery/electrical problems and months -well into lemon law time frame- at the dealership. It wasn't until his airbag blew up in his face when he was sitting in his garage causing injury. Oh yeah they jumped to do something then so he wouldn't sue them. Buy backs? Yeah, if you fight with a lawyer or have a serious safety issue they can't ignore. They aren't just offering buy backs and if so it will be at your loss. They will just hide the history of the car (like they did to me) so they can dump it off on some other unsuspecting fool and make yet another profit. And you are patting them on the back for extending warranty on bad parts? That's kind of funny. They are BAD parts LOL. And I guarantee that extended warranty is not offered proactively but only to those that make issue of it. Still bad parts.

I absolutely have proof of Lincoln and dealer lies, you don't know the half of my story. I wouldn't be reacting this way nor posting. Please don't question my motives either.

All I can do is remind myself that because you are not the one in my (or vtk s) position (maybe you have more free time and don't mind 17 2 hour round trip, 4 hour total, trips to the dealer - I most definitely have better things to do with my time) that you don't know what it's like. You know what it doesn't matter. Just because these situations don't concern or bother you does not mean others are wrong for being upset. Everyone has their own expectations and I think waiting a year goes well above and beyond patience for a fix. We will certainly disagree on that. I truly can't comprehend anyone being patient beyond a year so I can't understand how you can feel that way, the same as you can't comprehend why I would be upset :-). We can leave it at that. No sense in fighting we're just in different worlds on this.

I support and agree with Vtk's observations/comments because I have been going through this longer than he has and what he has been saying is just too scary similar to me. I don't believe it's a coincidence. You have a different experience and opinion. That's fine you are entitled. I do not make it personal against any forum member, I state the facts about my situation and don't speculate personally, I ask you to do the same. My comments about Lincoln forum members were general and I even spoke of the mkc forum not this one, no one was singled out or directly called a "Lincoln schill"as was said. I only agreed that there are Lincoln "employees" in the forums and referenced the mkc forum in fact. I am sorry if you took it as personal or specific to you. I did not question your motives. Read a little more closely.

Oh come on - you most certainly were talking about me - you practically quoted me.

I have never logged in to the MKC forum, but I am a moderator on 3 other websites owned by the same person as this website (and many others including the MKC forum) and I'll be glad to get the owner to come on here and vouch for me if that would make you happy.

However, I suspect nothing at this point will make you happy.

Seriously, get over yourself, I was talking about the mkc forum (not the one in this system, owned by the person you speak of it's a different one) as the term emotional is used there all the time. I didn't even note the name of the poster. It struck a cord about anyone saying that and that was all I was talking about it. Don't read into it and be on the defensive (just like the other forums) and now we are going to start the other comments too I see (nothing will make you happy)

Last comment and I'm done with this with you - having a fully functional car, like I paid for, like other owners have will make me happy. So SIMPLE.

But again it's about making me out to be someone who "just never will be happy right" deflect that blame and responsibility from Lincoln onto the "bad customer" right? It has nothing at all to do with Lincoln. Lincoln does no wrong. ha ha.

Vtk are you listening to this ridiculousness?

Yes I am.   Aren't these the same people who reacted so strongly when I suggested that Lincoln puts people on these sites to misdirect and distract people?

I choose not to play any more.  The whole thing is both funny and sad.  People will say what they say.  My thoughts about it are best kept to myself.

As you have likely discovered, sharing your problems with Lincoln on this forum is a waste of time.  It only gets you attacked by these so called "moderators".  No point to continuing.  I sometimes wonder if the site was created to misdirect dissatisfied customers so they don't take any effective action.

I would suggest that you take Lincoln to arbitration and then sue them in court,   Check your state's lemon laws.  Auto companies lobbied to create the arbitration process to keep their legal costs down. Use it against them.  Lincoln is likely liable for your legal fees.   There are entire legal practices devoted to filing lawsuits against auto manufacturers at no cost to you.   It is the only way the problems with your car will be addressed.

Fill out the 3rd party surveys and share your Lincoln "experience" with others.  Your responses may extract a cost for shoddy product support that cannot be spun by Lincoln.  No point in doing it here.

Don't waste your time arguing with these "moderators".  They are here to provoke and distract you.  Even if their claims about not being Lincoln shills are true, how sad must their lives be that this is the center of their existence.  Don't engage.

By the way, did you see the fun Lexus owners are having with the last software upgrade?  It bricked a bunch of navigation units and audio systems.  Lexus is not quite sure how to fix it.  (Remind you of someone?)  Why should we be the only ones having fun with new cars?

Good Luck and goodbye,

This should be a place to share information and frustration and nobody should jump on anybody.  The sad reality is that it seems sync 3 problems are both rare and understandably, difficult to fix in a quick span of time, so people who have issues are stuck waiting for a solution that takes time to fix.  I believe that if there were a lot of issues some small updates to sync would be rolling out to appease the masses.  I haven't read all the posts above because, frankly I can only handle 140 characters at a time, but I suppose just owning up to the problem would at least help, hopefully they did.  I get it spending 50k+ you want everything perfect i really do, I also understand that it takes a lot of time to update/fix issues and most importantly since everybody here seems to be a VP of IT with combined 148 years of experience (just two people, my daily shot at old lincoln drivers) you all know and understand the term early adopters, it is not a new term to cars and it is not a new term when it comes to technology.  Being the first will result in these kind of issues.  FYI, $200k Ferrari's were recalled for fires, how pissed would you be if your car burned down...er, nm maybe you do.  So FU Lincoln.

FYI:  3 failures in last week brought to my dealership alone.  My dealer is seeking help from the ford engineering team as Lincoln's engineers were "less than helpful"  as the dealer described them.  It is becoming a less "isolated" problem.  Early adapters should at least get some honesty from Lincoln.

Thank you. Some people have real problems with their cars and get frustrated. There is no where to vent, sometimes it comes out in the forums.

I don't post long everyday rants like some people. Vtk story is so similar to mine I wanted to show support not start a war like what goes on in the other forums. Both forums have been invaluable to me in my situation for a number of reasons. And I've said it before this is constructive criticism Lincoln needs to hear. Wish only the best fior everyone with their cars..but imagine what it's like when you're struggling. I just always try to put myself in others shoes if I can. Just be nice :-)

And since everybody is throwing their credentials around...Director of Fresh Air at Brookfileld Zoo, Chicago.

Oh nice job BTW, are you still there?

FYI:  3 failures in last week brought to my dealership alone.  My dealer is seeking help from the ford engineering team as Lincoln's engineers were "less than helpful"  as the dealer described them.  It is becoming a less "isolated" problem.  Early adapters should at least get some honesty from Lincoln.

So you answered the question I forgot to ask you...seems like your problem is still going on and the latest dealer visit did not resolve?

So is your status still "waiting for software update" or is that what they tried already?

Did they have any next step for you?

Sad is a good description but letting them bully you into silence is not cool either.

We should be able to post.  I believe posting helps other people, just stick to the facts and try not to rant too much or you lose credibility that way.  Peoples posts  about problems and dealing with dealers and Lincoln has helped me in some ways so if posting my situation can help someone else I'm for that.

Sounds like a fun summer for me (sarcasm) :-) Lawyers, arbitration, no car LOL  I hadn't built all that into my summer vacation plans :-)

Good luck to you as well.  Are you going the route you suggested or waiting it out for a fix?
