Regarding the hotspot, you have to go through your carrier. I use AT&T and they will add your MKX to your plan for $10/mo for 3 G, degraded at 20+ gigs. They also have a three month free trial. I haven't signed p (yet) so I don't know the details such as whether anything needs to be done in the car, etc.

Cosmos38 - Thanks, we love it. Sure beats San Fran. We have a winter home in Arizona and I had this done down there just before we headed home. Wanted to play with it on the long drive. When I'm home I use the dealer in Bellingham. The Burlington dealer didn't respond to a request for a price on an order so they're out. Orcas hasn't changed all that much since he 50's - kind of like time travel.

Just got software upgraded and hardware installed by the dealer. Works fine with a small learning curve. One USB in the front and the one in the rear works as well although I haven't tried it for CarPlay. Sync 3 and CarPlay each have their strengths and weaknesses. If I had to pick one it'd be Sync 3. Glad I can switch back and forth. CarPlay is supposed to support my wife's iPhone 5 but so far no luck. Voice recognition on Sync 3 seems improved. It may be that getting the most out of CarPlay is learning how to make the most of SIRI. It looks like SIRI will do a lot of the screen manipulation required by Sync 3.

Lincoln has announced their product plan for SYNC 3 and Apple CarPlay: it will be standard on 2017 models and require a purchased hardware upgrade and a software upgrade for 2016 models. The "integration" sounds pretty weak with many (but not all) Sync 3 function, including the NAV system unavailable when you're in CarPlay mode. My question is: is this really as lame as it sounds? I can't find much use for paltry selection of apps we have now and certainly wouldn't trade any of them for the Sync 3 equivalent.. Add the instability of early releases, potential effect on Sync 3 performance and other surprises and I'm not seeing much benefit. What am I missing?

I don't think these are the issue. I've sat and done this successively with several contacts - some worked, most didn't. My guess is it's something about the formatting of the address. Hope they'll look at this for maintenance releases of SYNC.

So times you can set the destination for the navigation system by going to contacts, locating the correct contact and selecting the address. This works about a third of the time and two thirds of the time it doesn't. It must be possible or it wouldn't work at all. Any ideas on why it fails?

If you are going to have a mandatory question with drop-down answer selection you should at least have a complete set of options. When required to state the model year of my MKX the latest option was 2014.
