Galaxy Dancer
Our 2012 MKX. Recently @ 62K our display experienced several "BLACK OUTS" like the dreaded Microsoft Blue screen. Dealer ran diags, reloaded Sync and replaced the rear camera and servo motors for the air systems. This occurred after the most recent SYNC update and an upgrade of the mapping SD card to A8. ODD performance of the entire system eapecially with the NAV and phone functions. Week later more of the above. Dealer replaced the entire APIM board behind the display screen that runs all SYNC functions. Quite an engineering feat I say about this board. Now the system literally halts or takes way to long to perform a task. i.e. entering a favorite destination in the NAV option takes 4 to 8 minutes to complete after data entry. Same for music and climate functions. Other functions halt. Turn off engine and restart and all is fine until the next episode. Do not know if it is a faulty APIM, main CPU,IF it talks to the APIM, other interface issues or electrical path issues. Darn annoying. Our trusty steed is off to the dealer again to tackle this mess. We have had some warranty issues with this MKX that concerns us for reliability. Since we took ownership, 1. TPU replaced, 2. Drivers side entire door planel replaced 3.passenger side Trans CV seal replaced 4. rear wheel bearings replaced 5. gas canister vapour sensor replaced, 6.entire air brake booster replaced (almost rear ended a Fiat) 7. several servo motors for A/C system blowing heat on drivers side vents. We love this MKX and will endure it's faults as it is truly unique with a design both exterior and interior which is exquisite. We drive a lot of 2016/17 MKX Black Label and lesser MKX model loaners when ours is in for service and they cannot hold a candle to our MKX interior and exterior. EXCEPT for that dreamy 3.0 litre twin turbo rocketship engine. It's magnificent. If anyone has had this display issue problem sure would appreciate some input. JRo609
I’m having an issue with my 2011 Lincoln MKX. Recently my touchscreen has stopped working. It’s a blank screen. I cannot control or see anything (Climate Control,Radio,Phone,Backup camera). Also the USB controls underneath the center screen don’t work. When backing up the screen doesn’t change but the sensors still beep. Ive tried unplugging the battery for about 20min because that’s what a Ford tech told me. When I did this the radio comes back on but no screen. It stays on for maybe a minute then the sound fades to just the rear speakers then completely cuts off. The Ford tech told me it’s either the APIM or FCIM. How do I determine what one it is? What’s the easiest fix? Or least expensive to go with first? Are there any recalls or issues anyone has experienced? I bought the car used about 2 years ago and do not know the history. Thanks in advance. enigma-2
About the only way to determine what's at fault is to have your local dealer connect a laptop and check for codes. The APIM does have a diagnostics program, but you need the screen to use it.
