2007 Lincoln MKX Fuel tank

Has anyone else encountered the issue of a leaking fuel tank in a Lincoln MKX? I know the Edge has a similar problem. Is there any pending recall? I feel like this is a manufacturer defect, as I have never had to replace a fuel tank before. Additionally the stock exhause is still fine, which leads me to believe that the elements are not an issue.

The recall you are referring to is 14S22.  I have attached a copy of the notice I received in the mail.  And it does cover both the Edge and the MKX.  Since you are in California, it may/may not be covered.  Did you buy it new, or was it titled at any time in one of the "covered" states?  Regardless, call up the phone number below and ask for the Lincoln Customer Service representative, explain the situation.  I am sure they can help you get this resolved. According to the recall notice, you can call 1 866 436 7332.

Just remember, if they don't have parts yet, and you take it in to the dealer, your MKX will effectively be impounded until a replacement part can be installed.  So treat the phone call as a theoretical situation and don't specifically identify yourself.

Summary:

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Lincoln MKX, and Ford Edge vehicles, manufactured June 15, 2006, to September 22, 2008, and originally sold, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Due to corrosion from salt water exposure such as from road salt use, the affected vehicles may leak fuel from the fuel tank seam weld under the tank mounting reinforcement brackets.

Consequence:

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy:

Ford will notify owners. The remedy is currently being developed. The recall is expected to begin on December 8, 2014. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S22.
