2017 MKX Reserve - Is the LED headlight unit a direct plug and play replacement for the HID?

2017 MKX Reserve with HID adaptive headlights needs a new headlight unit. I figure it makes the most sense to replace both sides so they match. The aftermarket LED units are not much more expensive than the HIDs. Can you simply swap over to the LEDs, or does the software/electronics prevent the substitution?

Thanks, Zumkopf

From what I've seen on other forums and Linc FB group, the wiring harness is supposedly plug-and-play, but you'll likely need to reprogram the BCM and you'll lose your adaptive headlight function - might be worth checking with a dealer before dropping cash on LED units. and in general LED swap is questional, are you HID not bright enough? Maybe just replace bulbs?

The HIDs are bright enough, it's just that the left side high beam points straight at the ground in front of the car and refuses to adjust.  [The right one aims and adjusts properly.]  Replacing the unit myself is likely no more expensive than taking it to the dealer and having them tell me it needs to be replaced, and charging three times the cost for the part alone.
