walkabout Posted May 21, 2019 Report Share Posted May 21, 2019 Lease is up in a few months but the dealer actually bought out the end of the lease and I'm going to move into a Volvo XC60 T6. I had a pin code for employee pricing so the Volvo was out the door for about $10,000 less than a Nautilus equipped with similar features. Honestly, living in LA and being somewhat single, I wanted a smaller vehicle. There Nautilus/mkx had been a tad large for me My observation over the last three years is that the MKX/Nautlus is a ridiculously good vehicle. Not only do I think it's a better vehicle than the direct competition (RX, XT5), I think it is competitive with Audi, BMW, M-B. The 2.7T is one of the sweetest engines on the planet and Sync 3 may be the best infotainment system available. I never really came to love the seats, I still think it needs a bit more refinement in the cabin, and Lincoln customer service has been hit or miss. But, I've enjoyed my ownership experience and I'm looking forward to returning to Lincoln showrooms. The last three years have convinced me that Lincoln/Ford can take on the big boys and win. Otherwise, it would have been close to the top of my list - especially with the new hybrid drive train. Gurgeh Posted May 22, 2019 Report Share Posted May 22, 2019 Congratulations, Walkabout. I think you'll enjoy the Volvo, as long as you are fine with a 4-cylinder. As you note, it is a bit smaller -- similar in size to the RDX and Q5. All three of those vehicles now only come in boosted 4s (except for the SQ5, which is a very different beast than the Q5). In size, Lincolns slot either a bit above those three with the Nautilus or a bit smaller with the MKC/Corsair. Sounds like you got a great price on the XC60, which otherwise would have priced similar to the Nautilus (and more than the Q5 or RDX). walkabout Posted May 22, 2019 Author Report Share Posted May 22, 2019 Thanks Guergh. It was slightly more than an RDX but the RDX doesn't have Android auto. I got a T6 Inscription with Advance package and some other goodies for roughly $3,000 more than the RDX advance (which was my second choice). $6,000 below invoice. The size was a big selling point as was the visibility (which is horrendous in the Acura). I'll be honest, having driven everything, I still consider the Nautilus the best vehicle in the price range. It's superior overall to XC60, RDX, RX, XT5, etc. However, I decided that even the new seats were not going to work for my body. It came down to Volvo and RDX mostly because those cars had the best seats. Otherwise, even the engine upgrades don't compare to the 2.7t and Sync 3 is still the most full featured and elegant infotaiment system available (if you don't need Android Auto - iDrive would be my top pick). I'd be lying if I said I was happy to be moving on from the Lincoln. It was a fantastic vehicle. Really one of the best vehicles I've owned. While I'm not a fan of China's Geely and wish you had again bought American, (At least American owned) you've got to do what you've got to do... I leased a 1989 Volvo 780 Turbo Bertone back in the day... It was a looker for sure... Fun to drive and I received lots double-takes and compliments on it. For instance, I did like the XC60 seats. Oddly, I found the base seats in the lowest trim the most comfortable. When I was considering the Volvo I was looking at getting the lowest trim and then tarting it up with tons of options. I could get the equivalent of a higher trim at the same cost that way, but without the nice wood inlay. The RDX seats, however, just didn't work for me. I could never get them adjusted in a way that felt comfortable and my wife hated them. For someone else I'm sure they would have worked fine, as they did seem well made, well padded, and quite adjustable. And again for me, the change from the MKX to Nautilus seats, though the change was only minor, made a huge difference. But another difference was my decision to go Black Label. That made the leather used on the seats (and elsewhere in the interior) massively softer. Again, enjoy your new ride!
