VisionPilot
I'm interested in getting a roof rack kit (crossbars, mounts, etc) for my MKX with factory rails. However, it appears that the rails on MKX's with the panoramic roof are non functional, just for appearance. Can anyone attest to the difference between the rails supplied on MKX's without the pano roof, vs. the ones on pano equipped models? While the product is available on the Lincoln Accessories website, it specifically states that they are not compatible on models with the panoramic roof. Thanks. arug
I have the Pano Roof. We had the dealer install Thule crossbars. There is plenty of room to open the roof. I'll look up the model no. and get back to you VisionPilot

punch-card
I am pretty sure there was a posting on this site last year and that confirmed this, I think I also saw it on some promotional material that stated it. http://lincolnmkxforum.com/topic/813-satin-roof-rack-side-rails-without-crossbars-accessory-purchase/?hl=roof

However, there is a stated disclaimer that they are incompatible with the panoramic roof.
arug
VisionPilot, It's the Thule Aeroblade with Rapid Podium Foot Pack 460R. I think the dealer charged around 500 for the rack and installation. I'm sure we paid too much

The kit online at both Thule and Lincoln accessories is listed at $
arug
Just found the bill on the cross rails, it was 572.00 they charged VisionPilot
VisionPilot
Just found the bill on the cross rails, it was 572.00 they charged Again, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal, $539 for the kit, and $33 for installation? Can you post pics of the roof rack and feet so I can get an idea how it secures to the factory rails? I watched a couple of videos, but it appears as though it requires some bolt holes in the roof rails, which mine does not appear to have. Thanks. arug
Posted pics on gallery. The foot packs are not bolted into the side rails. We adjusted them to line up the cross rails to our storage box.

We adjusted them to line up the cross rails to our storage box. Same rails as mine, I don't see why I have read, and was told by the dealer, that they won't work. Next question, are they easily removable? I wouldn't want them on full time, only when I know I need to carry something that won't fit in the car. Thanks again! arug
It is easy to remove. In the instructions they recommend removing the rack when not in use. VisionPilot
jbiancolli
From what I understand Ford (lawyers) say no to the bars because they fear something would drop onto the glass roof breaking it.
VisionPilot
It is easy to remove. In the instructions they recommend removing the rack when not in use. So can I assume then, that it's easy to install as well? Nothing special about what the dealer did?
arug
Yes, it should be easy to install. Had the dealer do it because we ordered it at the same time we ordered the vehicle and they installed it when we took delivery. We have used it several times since February when we got the car, so we haven't taken it off yet but according to the instructions, it looks simple.
