New guy! 2011 MKX drivers seat not moving

Good afternoon, all!  My daughter bought my mom and dad's 2011 MKX a year or two ago, and loves it.  Unfortunately, recently the driver's seat has stopped moving!  Any insight on testing the switch and motors?

  1. No functions for seat movement work at the switch.  Fuse is good.  Nothing else seems to be not working (windows, etc.)
  2. It was sudden.  My daughter said that it was intermittent, and then it just stopped; less than 3 days.  My mechanic was able to get it pulled all the way back, but after that it wouldn't move.  He knows I'm capable of fixing things, so didn't do more than I asked him (AC recharge and move the seat.)
  3. My daughter is a bit of a pig with her car and bedroom, and a bunch of shit was under the drivers seat.  Mechanic cleared things out, and didn't notice anything specific that could have been the culprit.
  4. Visually everything looks good.  I've cleaned out under the seat and visually inspected.  Nothing looks obviously out of place.  Tonight I'm going to lift the seat and start poking around with a test light.

Anyone recognize this as a common problem, or have a description to proceed w/ troubleshooting?  This is the first time I've needed to do anything to this car.

Minor - Since we've gotten it the steering wheel will go up and down, but not telescope.  Anything to look at there?

Thanks!

Kevin

Update:  Playing around with it (I'm hard of hearing), with the seat lifted, I can hear clicking of the motors in every direction.

What would cause ALL the motors to seems to be separated from their gearing?
