I own a 2018 Lincoln MKX with the 3.7L V6 engine and AWD. My vehicle is quickly approaching the 48,000 kilometer (30,000-mile) service interval, and I'm currently reviewing the service options provided by the dealer (a 3-tier maintenance menu).
I want to clarify that the car has low mileage, has been very well maintained, always on time, and at an official Lincoln workshop. I have no known problems; it drives quite well. I only want to have the services and treatments performed that are truly necessary and critical.
I have the feeling that the workshop is trying to push me into treatments that are only done with higher mileage and that aren't truly necessary at this point.
My main goal is to ensure the car receives all the most critical preventative maintenance for longevity, especially anything beyond the basic oil change.
Based on your experience with the MKX and having passed this service milestone, I would appreciate your advice on which services or inspections you consider absolutely essential, particularly regarding known issues for this model:
PTU (Power Transfer Unit): I know this is a sensitive point on AWD models. Do you recommend changing the PTU fluid at 48,000 km (30,000 miles), even if the manual only calls for it under severe driving conditions? Have you noticed any improvement, or is this a necessary preventative expense?
Brake Fluid: Is this the correct time recommended for a brake fluid flush/change? (Manuals often suggest 2 years or 48,000 km).
Additional Filters: Besides the oil filter, would you recommend replacing the engine air filter every time at this service interval, or only if the shop finds them dirty?
3.7L Specific Issues: Is there anything specific to the 3.7L V6 engine that I should have the technician inspect closely at this mileage (leaks, noises, performance issues)?
Any service recommendation you performed that made a difference in performance or issue prevention would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
