Brand new - pre-owned 2017 MKX

Recommended Posts

I was looking for a 2.7t, but a dealer near my house got a really clean 2017 3.7 with low miles and all the features we wanted. The 'Boss' made the final decision.

:)

The 2.7 is definitely better, but the 6-speed transmission is an anchor for either. The new Nautilius 8-speed is a long overdue improvement. I would almost expect an 11 or 12 speed with the power these engines put out, and considering what the competition offers.

It's been trouble free. just about to reach the one year mark since we bought it.

I had one flat from a screw in the tire, but no issues.

I've been on three long road trips. This car loves the highway. There is a slight noise around 75mph plus. Like some kind of wind noise.

might be related to the following:

https://www.carcomplaints.com/Lincoln/MKX/2017/tsbs/tsb-ssm-47814.shtml

I'm going to mention it on my next service visit.

There is a recall on the MKX right now. wiring harness fire hazard. Lincoln/Ford contacted vial mail and email. The Lincoln Way app popped up a warning, and the dealer got in touch with us. I'm waiting for the dealer to get the parts in, for the fix.

Make sure you ask if yours has been fixed yet.

Enjoy the 2.7L. I haven't had any regrets with the 3.7. It has 305 HP, a 1962 continental only had 140 HP.

Check the car history, get a mechanic to check it over with a scan tool, and get a good deal.

Car manufacturers have to fix recalls, regardless of warranty. I think it is a good sign when the manufacturer is pro-active and doesn't drag their feet.

Ford tried covering up the transmission problems on their 3 cylinder Fiestas for a couple of years, and now they owe a ton of money to everyone. If they had admitted it, fixed it and moved on, it would have been a nothing burger.

Right now Ford seems to be paying attention to flaws and getting it fixed quickly. A good time to own one.

There was no coverup.  Transmissions were fixed under warranty.  They extended the TCM warranty to 100k miles early on and extended the tranny warranty later.  We traded a 2012 Focus in 2016 - didn’t affect the trade in price.

Where they screwed up is not switching to the regular tranny here when they did it in Europe.

You're right. I should have described it as 'foot dragging' instead of a cover up. The fiesta was a low profit car, and the cost of repairs would reflect badly on the bottom line. However, after the law suits and settlements ended up making it even worse financially. Addressing the issue quickly would have saved more money in the long run. I didn't think the focus was effected as well.

At least we benefit for a few years, the company is responding quickly to issues after learning the hard way.

ColonelM here.  New to this forum, was originally looking for help regarding "floppy drivers side visor" for my wife's 2017 MkX.  Currently it has >102k miles.  We bought it new in 2017 and it has been a very reliable car.  It has the 2.7T motor and I'm surprised at the power it has.    My wife preferred this one vs then current Cadillac version of the day because of the room it afforded her because of the grandkids.   I was looking to get an another one BUT when they announced that new ones will be "built in China" I will NOT be buying another one.  I'm sure that Ford executives thought there was good reasons for doing so but that logic was flawed, just like there "follow the crowd" logic for spending so much on EV development.  You couldn't even pay me for one of those.  Ok, I will get off my soapbox now.

The original reason for looking into this forum was the drivers side visor became "floppy", wouldn't stay up.   The dealer said it couldn't be repaired and a new replacement unit would cost ~ $600 with installation.   That didn't smell right because I found a document online from Ford with a parts breakout...why would there be be a parts drawing with part numbers detailed if it was "unrepairable"?  Searched online for "2017 MkX drivers side visor w/garage door unit" and found a dealer in PA who had the exact part replacement in the same color.  Arrived yesterday  (it looks brand new... the dealer published details on the car it was taken from that was totaled from a rear end collision with 37k miles) and installed today (by me).  Works perfect.  Total cost including UPS shipping $62.

Bottom line, be skeptical.  i can afford to have had it replaced by the dealer but I'm old school.  If things smell fishy they usually are.  I just don't believe in paying for over-priced goods and services that are being hawked today.  I want value.
