walkabout Posted May 31, 2018 Report Share Posted May 31, 2018 Walt, you're a good guy but you're being ridiculous again. The EPA on the 3.7 is 16/23. With the six speed tranny and no automatic stop, it's one of the least efficient vehicles on the road. It's a gas guzzler. The are also real world tests all over the Web and on youtube. Your real world mpg will be between 18 and 19 overall, like everybody else is getting. You're not a better more efficient driver than everybody else posting here. And, you can break the laws of thermodynamics. Unlike you, we all own and drive MKXs and know what fuel economy to expect. So continually posting these absurd estimates that we all know to be untrue will not impress anybody. I am optimistic that Ford is about to put some real "eco" into their FI engines (which are glorious drivetrains otherwise). I'm encouraged by the great numbers akirby is getting with his pickup. In every other respect those engines are just glorious to drive. Honestly, I'm tempted to lease another just because I love the engine so much. akirby Posted May 31, 2018 Report Share Posted May 31, 2018 What I've noticed with the F150 is that it cruises at 1200 rpm around 45-50 mph even going up hills with very little downshifting - stays in 10 most of the time. Agreed, why don't you actually acquire an MKX before talking it up. I also doubt it's going to happen based on your posting history here and elsewhere. Ford has some of the most impressive drivetrains on the planet. I truly believe the 2.7T is the best all around engine I've ever encountered. But, a fuel sipping vehicle these beasties are not. I think that will all change with the Nautilus, 8 or 9 speed tranny, stop turnoff, and whatever other technologies they have to throw at fuel economy. The "aggressive deceleration fuel cutoff" used by Ford will benefit me. This feature is not offered in BMW X3. Ah, sweet. Something I wish I had on mine. akirby Posted June 1, 2018 Report Share Posted June 1, 2018 Coasting is the key to getting good fuel economy. And you have to take your foot entirely off the throttle. Even a light pressure won't activate DFCO - at least in my unofficial testing. It amazes me how many people just stay on the throttle when they can clearly see that traffic is stopped ahead and they're going to have to stop - including my wife. Of course if I say anything she'll get mad and claim she is coasting so I just let it go. In my old neighborhood there is a 1 mile backroad going into the neighborhood. When I road tested the Fusion prior to purchase, I thought that the car had a defective transmission that was downshifting incorrectly. Over time as I observed and understood the function, it became less of a nuisance and more of a tool. On the other hand, the MKX DFCO is so subtle that I would question whether it is really present or functioning. However, both vehicles return fuel mileage greater than EPA estimates, albeit my MPG exceed those of the wife by ~ 20-29% in the Fusion. 'Back in the day' I occasionally commuted with a neighbor who never noted monster potholes, dogs on an intercept route approaching from curbside, apparently wasn't adept at interpreting the world around him in his vehicle's mirrors, et cetera...it almost drove me sane.
