Red
Greetings, I have a 2017 MKX. I would very much appreciate hearing from someone who knows the correct answer to this question: Is the original paint used on bumpers on MKXs the exact same as that used on the metal body during production? The body of this particular car has: "White Platinum MET tri-coat" . Apparently, at manufacture, the body paint is a 3-coat process. The body has what I would call a "pearlescent" appearance, while the rear bumper, although a different material (plastic versus metal) does not appear to have the "pearlescent" appearance, but rather seems to be a plain white. I guess it's possible that the same paint may appear differently on different- type surfaces (metal body versus plastic bumper).... but I would really like to know if the paint is the same (tri-coat- three coat process) on the bumper as is on the metal body. I need to have the rear bumper re-painted at a body shop. One shop tells me that the bumper paint is the same as the body- which is a 3-coat process, while another shop says the bumper was not painted during manufacture with the same 3-coat process, but rather it is basically plain plastic bumper paint. Which is correct? Thanks very much for your help! Red
akirby
Same paint but the bumpers are typically painted elsewhere plus they are plastic vs metal which can change the appearance. Prep is different. Common issue and repainting will fix it.
