RCT
I have a 2013 MKX with a back up camera that is intermittent. It has been coming on, then not coming on for years. When it does go out it shows a message on the display screen that the camera is unavailable and to contact a dealer. I would like to check the wiring of the camera first to see if that is the problem before purchasing a new camera. There are numerous videos out there of people changing the cameras on their Ford Edge...but the lift gate is different on the outside where the camera is mounted than on the MKX. So does anyone know of a video that shows how to change out a 2013 MKX back up camera? If so can you please share it with me. Thanks. RCT
Thank you...I've seen this video. It's better than nothing but it doesn't show how to pull the camera out or put the large panel back in place...in the one shot you can see the panel lying in the back of the vehicle with a lot of pieces sticking up that I am guessing need to be snapped back in to place. Taking the camera out is likely simple...one screw...but my concern is how do you put the panel back in properly and do some or many of the clips that hold it in place break when you yank down on the panel. Any other more detailed video?
enigma-2
Use panel tools to pry out. Panels pop out (clips don't break). To mount, center panel over frame and hit over fastener with palm. Pops right bsck in.

RCT
UPDATE - For years our camera would work intermittently. It would go out for a day, a week but always come back on and work fine...then it finally wouldn't. It had been doing this for 2 years or so. At this point August 2023 it had been about a month since it last worked so I finally decided I had to do something about it. I removed the panel and it was much easier than I thought to remove and reinstall ( I didn't buy any tool to remove it...I just pulled down firmly on it and it came off). One clip stayed stuck to the inside of the tailgate put I easily took it out and put it back into the panel and it was fine. No clips broke. I looked at the wiring harness and thought there may have been an issue with it as one wire seemed exposed but I had a mechanic look at it and he said it appeared to be like that from the factory. After unplugging the camera and reinstalling it, it came on again. We wiggled the wires around and it still kept working....so I put it back in, reinstalled the panel and it worked for a few more days then it just died again for a solid week with no camera - just the message to contact a dealer. I found that Dorman has a back up Camera for a 2013 MKX. Part number 592-017. It was under $150 US with shipping on ebay so I bought it off a car parts seller "partscontainer" with 4.3 million items sold. It was packaged well and arrived ahead of schedule. This camera came with the large o-ring on it unlike most I saw on-line. I took the back panel down again and installed the new camera and it works perfect...the lines are on the screen, the picture is clear and the field of vision is slightly larger than factory. I will update again in 6 months or so and let you all know if the camera is still working fine. Thank you to those who offered me help on this issue...I appreciate it. 2011mkxCA
Thought I would post on here, in case someone is searching in the future. Based on my research for a replacement backup camera for my Canadian market 2011 MKX, I think I discovered that there are different cameras for Ford Edges and Lincoln MKXs. I ordered the correct aftermarket camera for the MKX, and it went in easily, with no modifications necessary and no cutting of wires or changing orientation. I even got the lines back on the camera without any calibration needed. I ordered the part number BA1Z-19G490-B. This worked perfectly. I was dreading the install because I assumed it would require work, but didn't. I ordered this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/394795001648 I believe the incorrect part number, which corresponds to the Ford Edge, is BT4Z-19G490-B (or something starting with a BT4Z). When you look on Ford's part sites, it says these are compatible with the MKX, but my gut is that they actually aren't fully compatible, or the aftermarket versions are somehow now compatible. Hope this helps someone. CARR142
