Just had an oil change at my Lincoln dealer and they said my brakes still have a lot of pad left. I am at 87K Mile s and have never had brake service. Seems amazing but maybe normal? The "...typical life of brake pads" varies by media source and a plethora of conditions & caveats, but 45,000 miles commonly appears. My MKX is at that number now with plenty of pad left. Some years ago (the '70s), a Maverick was given to a family member with 93,000 miles on both the original brakes & Michelin tires. Your mileage is exceptional and likely reflects both your topography (no mountain driving), freeway vs suburban driving, and disciplined driving manners. I cringe at the poor driving manners of some others on the road who drag their brakes down hills, racing from stoplight to stoplight, braking constantly while tailgating, etc. Incidentally, thanks for not referring to your vehicle's 'breaks'. And, welcome to the forum. Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I've had my 2017 Lincoln MKX Black Label since 8,000 miles. I love it and have only had to change tires once and regular oil changes and air filters. I agree I live in a fairly flat region which likely helps on the pad use. I changed mine for the first time at 70k both front and back. They told me they could have saved the rotors if I wanted to get the resurfaced. Live in IL... unfortunately. enigma-2 Posted January 28, 2022 Report Share Posted January 28, 2022 When I originally had my brakes redone, the front pads were gone but the back were still 50% (80k miles). I took it in again around 110k and specified new rear pads, redo the emergency brakes and full fluid flush. The tech found frozen pistons (no surprise) and installed new rotors, calipers, brake shoes and pads. (Appearently the emergency brake is a shoe). Have great brakes now. Service told me that fronts should wear more than rears on the MKX based on the load distribution, but not terribly so. Do you have excellent braking effect or do they seem soft or lot of petal movement? 87k miles "seems" like a lot, unless its mostly highway.
