New actuator's are needed... yikes. Saw the videos online and what a massive job that is!! Anyone ever try doing this replacement job, and how did it go? Haz Posted August 24, 2021 Report Share Posted August 24, 2021 (edited) The several YouTube videos on door panel disassembly & door lock actuator removal reveal an involved process, but they lack any detail on how the need to replace the actuator was verified. Successful door lock operation extends backward from the actuators, through wiring and multiple connectors, to door switches and the remote locking/unlocking system, through more wiring and connectors, to the Smart Junction Box, which is a multi-function module containing relays specific to power locks operation. A door lock actuator that is not properly functioning may indeed be faulty, but its non-operation may also be the result of a corroded connector, an intermittently faulty door switch, or failed/failing non-replaceable relays in the Smart Junction Box. The 2008 MKX Workshop Manual provides step-by-step guidance on diagnostic "pinpoint" tests for the various circuits and components making up the power locking system. Among them is determining if any system-related Digital Trouble Codes (DTCs) exist that may indicate a specific fault has occurred. National-brand car parts stores may be capable of scanning your Edge for any recorded DTCs, which could be helpful. If a service professional or yourself have already absolutely determined the door lock actuators are the cause of your MKX's problem, then please forgive my redundant information. On the other hand, if you need connector diagrams for individual circuit testing, I can provide them. DaveIn757 Posted August 24, 2021 Author Report Share Posted August 24, 2021 Oh eow… I have zero background that would give me any confidence to do all that circuit chasing… local Lincoln dealer wants $185 just to diagnose the problem… my Ford dealer where I used to work has much better rates, but either way will have to do something. Haz Posted August 24, 2021 Report Share Posted August 24, 2021 The diagnostics are costly because full circuit assessment requires access to the actuator connectors, hence the technician must disassemble the door panels. With your Ford dealer's involvement, you can be confident that only parts that deserve replacement are the ones you pay for, and, you may see a few old friends while you're there. Good luck! DaveIn757 Posted August 31, 2021 Author Report Share Posted August 31, 2021 Here's what is odd. Driver's door never works by keypad or fob or switches on the doors.
