shoeguy
I have found from the day I took delivery of my 2.0 Nautilus that the auto start stop often seems to be somewhat jarring. Last week when I was in Arizona on vacation for two weeks I had a 19 Equinox with a 2.0 liter engine and start stop, the transition was almost seamless. Trying to get a sense of if my car is representative of Ford stop start, or if I have an issue to be addressed. Thx
akirby
I've heard the 2.0L is rougher than the larger engines. The 3.5LeB in my F150 is super smooth. Only way to really tell is to test drive another one at the dealership and compare.
Cosmos36
The smoothness of a 4 cylinder stop-start engine re-start may depend on whether the engine is always programmed to shut down & restart with one of the 4 cylinders at/near TDC (top dead center) charged with compressed fuel, i.e. ready to fire off instantly when the re-start ignition is initiated. Perhaps the Equinox and Nautilus engines are programmed differently re: stop-start sequencing. Also, the more the engine cylinders, e.g. 4 cylinder vs 6 cylinder, the smoother the re-start of a 6 cylinder due to better inherent engine balance features...6 cyl engines are inherently better balanced. elijahbird7
I always turn the Start/Stop off.. it's quite easy to remember to push the off switch just after pushing the Start switch. I do this because I live in a suburban area and never drive during rush hour. The 2.7 V/6 seems smooth though the few times I have forgotten to turn it off. You need to add a jumper to the stop switch. In essence, the stop switch becomes engaged each time you start the car. It may take a little research to determine which posts on the switch to jumper (if more than 2 posts exisit).
elijahbird7
There have been a few times I have forgotten to push the off Start/Stop switch, and for some reason it stays off for about 5 starts before it goes back on again. The first time I noticed it was when I didn't turn it off and came up to a train crossing stop. I assumed the engine would stop since I forgot to turn it off, but it didn't. So I just shut it off myself. Then ran a few errands and didn't turn it off, and about 5 starts it stayed off, but eventually it did turn itself back on.. I found that kind of strange... Not strange at all. There are over a dozen reasons why It won’t engage. Typically it’s either climate control or battery charge.
Cosmos36
Not strange...just cantankerous, irritating, and questionably essential.
