Moving here from MKZ Forum Hi everyone!

Hi, I'm an older driver with a 2012 MKZ living in the Southeast US. My XYL (ham lingo for wife) keeps bumping her head getting in and out of the vehicle. She's also a  bit cramped in the passenger side. To give you an idea of what I'm up against, she loved the room (and everything else) in our older Ford van.

I love the MKZ but as I get older it is getting harder to load and unload a month of groceries in and out of the cooler in the trunk. I'm looking for a 2015/16 MKX. After looking over the repair records and the forum, I'm moving toward the 2015 but haven't made any decisions. I sat in a 16 at a local dealer but no 15's close to look at. Can anyone tell me if there are any differences in front seat room between the two years? Any other comments or advice between the 15/16 or older models welcome.

Thanks to all

The 2011 to 2015 has slightly more headroom than 2016 onward.

The legroom is about the same in them all

i bought my 2011 new in Oct 2011 and I have just gone over 200,000 Kms.

Other than the usual problems with SYNC the only things I have replaced is brakes and tires (I’m only on my second set of tires with lots of tread left)

i am also an older driver, age 72.

Thanks for the reply. Also 72 here... wow! where did the time go? My MKZ has 0 headroom and I'm not tall (and shrinking with age ;)).

That's good information, looks like a good '15 or earlier would fit my needs... and budget.

Any suggestions on options I should look for? I'm not sure what the different designations mean (like reserve or sport model)

Thanks to all with help.

  • 2 months later...

2016 was the first year of the current MKX/Nautilus model. As with any redesign there will always be some initial issues, and the MKX had some in early production 2016 units. But it has been an very reliable vehicle from about mid-2016 model year on through the current Nautilus refresh. I would recommend a late-year 2016. Be sure it has Sync 3, not MyLincolnTouch for its infotainment and you should be fine.

Check out the center console for the 2015 compared to the 2016. The 2015 had climate controls on the center console, but other functions like the radio all had to be handled by the steering wheel or the Lincoln My-Touch touch screen.

The 2016 and later models6 added back a lot of actual buttons to the center console so you could change settings by feel, instead of taking your eyes off the road to look at a touch screen.

Not everyone cared about this, but it was a major complaint from people who did care, and Lincoln addressed in later models. The Lincoln demographic tends to be a little older, and I guess that not taking your eyes off the road is a liitle more important to drivers over 20 or 25 years of age. :)

When you are test driving models, pay attention to this difference. It may or may not be important to you.

Mid year in the 2016 model, Lincoln changed from the Lincoln My-Touch to the Sync3 interface for their touch screens. This may or may not be important to you if looking at 2016 models.

EDIT: I've added screenshots from the two years for you to see the difference.

Also note that the 2016 introduced the push button transmission. This took me a few days to get used to. I can see how it would be unliked by some drivers. It doesn't bother me, but you may prefer the gear lever of the 2015.
