ks8780 Posted July 24, 2019 Report Share Posted July 24, 2019 Hello, I am a new member but a long time Lincoln owner ( '08 MKX) . I just picked up a '16 MKX Reserve and have a quick question. I have push button start and 2 key fobs. They both unlock the doors start the car and remote start. Here's the deal. 1 will turn on the what I will call welcome lights and puddle lights when approaching the car and also unlock the door as soon as you touch the inside of the handle. The other will not turn on the welcome lights or puddle lights and seems to unlock the door but you have to pull the handle 1 time first. The welcome lights and puddles will come on if you push the unlock button and of course the door will unlock. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing or what ? Anything to do with MYKey or will only the admin key turn on the lights ? I would like both fobs to act the same. I did change batteries in the one fob but it still acts the same. ks8780 Posted July 25, 2019 Author Report Share Posted July 25, 2019 I will pull it back apart and check again and see how many volts the new batteries are at. Maybe my new ones were bad also. punch-card Posted July 25, 2019 Report Share Posted July 25, 2019 I wonder if the fob was for another vehicle like mkc or some other, and it half programmed, or the fob doesn't send exactly the correct signal for the vehicle a MKX. The fact that it hesitates to unlock even when he grabs the door handle along with the lack of approach lighting is what made me think it's a signal strength issue of some kind. A re-programming of both fobs solved the issues. If this is the problem can I reprogram the fob myself or dealer only? I think I read somewhere that you need 2 working fobs to do it correctly. That is because the 'good' fob's program is reconciled and both 'good' and new fob then receive a compatible new program. Dealers, of course, can program fobs but usually at premium expense. An online (or telecon) search for local locksmiths that have the programming equipment will lead you to local vendors that usually charge less. They will also cut the blade key for the new fob. The topic is somewhat confusing because not all fobs require the same services to duplicate. To my knowledge, the so-called "remote smart" 4-button fobs of push button start vehicles such as MKX-Nautilus not only cost more but demand more complicated programming requiring software that 'lesser' fobs don't. akirby Posted July 26, 2019 Report Share Posted July 26, 2019 If both fobs are recognized you could buy another one and program it yourself.
