'Back in the day' I occasionally commuted with a neighbor who never noted monster potholes, dogs on an intercept route approaching from curbside, apparently wasn't adept at interpreting the world around him in his vehicle's mirrors, et cetera...it almost drove me sane. Additionally, engine temperature also affects whether the tranny will even shift from 5th to 6th (entirely true...it has to do with emissions control by engine management systems).
