Optimal Trade-In Time?

So... Now you insinuate the majority of this great country is not as financially fit II won't even address that that remark . I know I previously stated I was done trying to address your statements...but. I will respond to your ignorance of the carbiz one last time. Ignorance is not a slur, merely an indication of your lack of real life experiences in any automobile business. The obvious reasons are geographic locations, family statistics.historic popularity, and many other factors. people in Canada pay an outstanding premium price. What it really boils down to is" what can I reasonably expect to demand for this product. Dealers and individuals drive or fly all over the country to buy for less than their local prices. It's not hard... It just takes ".huvoes". The books are primarily used by bankers and new car sore managers who wouldn't have any idea what trade is worth without it. One can make a very good living by selling by way of all the books and media available. Adios

The price difference between similarly equiped reserve and BL is seven thousand dollars - not two thousand. I ran the configs on carsdirect.com, which I know to be a highly reliable site.

I then went one step further and texted the sales guy I dealt with for my car. He said he doesn't offer better deals on one or the other but noted that BLs were hard to move because nobody wants to sink that much into a Lincoln. He also confirmed the numbers.

So, you're just plain wrong, Walt.

You may decide that a BL without a lot of features is a better value than a loaded reserve, but that's not the point. A BL is a big premium. Personally, if it means you'll enjoy your car a lot more,I think it's probably worth it.

MKX has horrible depreciation so you shouldn't even but it thinking about resale. That said, when I asked the last dealer why he was offering so much less than kbb for my Acura, he suggested I sell my car to kbb instead of trading it (and yes, he was being sarcastic).

In the real world, they go mostly by auction prices. They'll offer you just enough to sell it to auction and still turn a profit.

They couldn't care less what KBB or any other site has to say.

So, walter chan, you "...understand people are frustrated at [you] because of [your] youthful character." (your post #88). How many folks here do you think are contemplating your age as they read your recitations of Google-inspired knowledge? Do you judge that your audience here consists exclusively of over-the hill seniors who should be more lenient of your "youthful character" as you persist in off-topic debating and cruel beatings of dead horses.

Wrong... Build your new 2018 Lincoln MKX 3.7L AWD price (all options except Tow Package, cargo accessories, 21" wheels, and rubber mats, using White Platinum color, same options together):

Reserve: $61,475 (with Luxury Package)

Black Label: $63,415

About $1,940 MSRP difference, so both can have Revel Ultima system and 22-way massage seats. Go see and build for yourself if you don't believe me: https://shop.lincoln.com/build/mkx/?searchid=752724125||&s_kwcid=AL!2519!3!271584088041!e!!g!!2018%20mkx&ef_id=WZ0U3gAAAGcs31u8:20180611041538:s#/chooseyourpath/

In the used car market, however, it's between $5,000 to $7,000 estimated retail price difference similarly equipped, despite MSRP difference was only $1,940 when new. This is what I'm trying to say POLITELY and FACTUAL, despite all the disagreements here. Reserve trim resale value don't hold as well as Black Label, that's my key point to this discussion. I hope people here understand now.

Nope. You're incorrect. I just ran it again, checking if all options at carsdirect. The difference still comes to roughly $4000. And, that before adding the fancy paint color you did - which adds $1500.

The difference in msrp is less relevant because nobody pays msrp (carsdirect returns a price that is equivalent to what you'd pay off you ordered at costco or some buying club).

However, even with the flawed logic of configuring at lincoln.com and not charging yourself the penalty for paint color - you're still wrong.

I also don't believe the BL is going to hold its value particularly well. The pattern, over the years, is the used mkxs go for only a bit more than a Ford Edge. And, in your case, you'll be driving around in a vehicle that had an obsolete engine. So, I think you'd take a huge hit on resale value one way or the other.

In fact, I'd predict that a loaded edge sport with the more modern drivetrain would have higher market value as a used car than your bl.

Not that I think resale value is all that important. If you're not going to keep a car long, you'd be better off leasing.

Walt - the difference you’re seeing is because some Reserves have none of the equipment that is standard on Black Label. You can’t compare averages when Reserve has such a large price range. Comparably equipped with similar mileage will NOT be a $7K price difference. No way no how.

And dealers don’t follow KBB retail value - they sell for whatever they think they can get which depends on local inventory and local market conditions.

He also didn't take into account the HUGE difference in odometer miles on the vehicles!  The BLs that were posted had half to one third the miles of the Reserves that were posted!

Look for the Multiquote button at the bottom right of each post.  Right next to it in a lighter grey is the Edit button.  It's very light and may not show up well.

"Reserve trim has a lower resale value (easily up to $4,000 less) than Black Label."

This is an accurate number now. Sorry for any confusion here.

That's still not accurate because that's based on the MSRP difference.    Used vehicle prices are highly localized which is why most dealers I know use black book which gives them recent auction (wholesale) prices in their area.    On the used market Black Labels may not command the same premium as a new vehicle.  Mileage and equipment are more important especially since a lot of the Black Label services won't be available on a used BL MKX after 4 years/50K miles.

Walt - you really need to stop making these general statements that simply aren't factual based on your extremely limited experience and knowledge.  Open up your mind and listen to what we're telling you instead of trying to defend what you said.

Ok, time for some rough justice.

Walt - your posts are disrupting multiple topics and irritating most of the other members.

I don't want to close topics so I'm going to start deleting or editing your posts if they go off topic, are factually unproven or just downright argumentative.

This includes things like pretending that you know more about used car values than a used car dealer and trying to ascribe political intentions to car color choices.

Please just stick to car facts and questions.
