elijahbird7
I did this update today with a USB download from my computer. I tried scanning for update by Wi-Fi, but it said "no updates available". Anyway, what changes should I be looking for on the system?
shoeguy
I had this update done at the dealer last week, with a few warranty items. I have not noticed any difference in the screen or operation. I have been curious myself.
punch-card
I did this update today with a USB download from my computer. I tried scanning for update by Wi-Fi, but it said "no updates available". Anyway, what changes should I be looking for on the system? In all my readings of posting on this and the Sync forum, I don't think any one has ever gotten an "over the air" update. VisionPilot
Just did this update today. Two things I immediately noticed: First, it never deposited the .xml file on the USB stick that you need to upload to the Lincoln Owner site to document that the upgrade complted, and second, every time I start the car now, I get a popup that says "Sync can check for updates when connected to a WiFi network", with the options of View Networks, and Close. Very annoying.... akirby
The xml never works. Do a Wi-Fi check for updates and it will update the installed version. Â You can turn off wi-if or have it connect to your home network to get rid of the message.
elijahbird7
The .XML did appear on my USB, and after trying to figure out how to open it in the right place, it did work and I immediately got an email stating they had received it. elijahbird7
One other thing I noticed that was different this time was other updates always seemed to start as soon as the USB was put in place. This one seemed to take at least 5 minutes before the "Updating system" appeared at the top of the screen.
elijahbird7
And yes that notification that updates can be by Wi-Fi is really going to drive me freakin nuts!!!#### What the hell were those software junkies thinking?
walkabout
Do you guys think the update is worth doing? Does it fix any problems or add any improvements? I'm kind of on the fence. I'm more than halfway through the lease and I'm not sure I see the upside to tempting luck at this point.

I'm more than halfway through the lease and I'm not sure I see the upside to tempting luck at this point.  I am halfway through my lease as well , I do not see any difference at all , unless it is more of a house cleaning up date to make it run smoother. The way I see it is that I might as well have it done if it is there to be had at no charge. At least you know you have the most up to date software available.
elijahbird7
My issue is that now everytime I start the car, that stupid notification about Sync software updates by Wi-Fi pops up and blocks the screen, and you have to touch "Close" everytime you drive the car! Sure hope someone figures out a way to stop this from happening. This is just a stupid move Lincoln! VisionPilot
elijahbird7
The only new thing I noticed so far is on the Homescreen, you now have a Steering Wheel Heat symbol to use without going into the Climate screen... richy
Fastfwd75
Normally you would think that going from 2.3 to 3.0 would be a big change. I don't understand why they did not call this one 2.4 and then call it 3.0 when waze and alexa and all those CES demos actually work. Â Â Clearly Ford has a lot to learn about software. Wifi updates, website reliability, ios app update. Most other software has a changes log that goes along with a new version from small one employee app startups to huge corporations. Â Â This feels like something done by one guy at Ford. Sometimes he is on vacation and the janitor pulls the plug on his computer and nobody can update anymore or return .xml files. Right now I'm just glad that apple play works as advertised and that after reinstalling the ios app from scratch I can one again remote start my reserve model. Â I had not noticed that yet; just installed it today. That will actually be very useful to me. I wonder if they even test their stuff? Was nobody at Ford annoyed at how you had to go 2 menus deep(3 from carplay) just to turn off the steering wheel heat? Right now it's a game of turning it on before carplay starts and then having to go back several menus to turn it off once the steering is hot enough that it bothers me. elijahbird7
I just took a photo of that Wi-Fi message and sent an email to the service manager at my Lincoln Dealer, asked him to forward it to their Sync3 expert, saying, I doubt if there is anyway to block this damn thing from popping up, and if it went away after a minute, it wouldn't bother me that much, but at least have your SYNC expert communicate with Lincoln to let them know how annoying this is... elijahbird7
One other change I just noticed. I have a USB drive with about 900 songs on it I use as my "Source" of music. Version 2.3 always kept that as the source. Just went out to Culver's. When I started the car, it went directly to FM instead of the USB source, so I guess now I will have to change that everytime I start the car as well...thanks Lincoln
elijahbird7
I also just tried turning off the Wi-Fi system. Then, I started the car 3 times, after opening the door and closing it, waiting for the interior lights to shut down, and that Wi-Fi notification still popped up everytime I started the car. thisguy159
3 has been out for several months now it was beta I think and I have had it for at least 6 months now. The differences were the heated steering wheel icon on home screen, the song info was updated...forgot what its called and much improved AA speed ie switching between screens. akirby
Either turn off wi-fi or let it connect to your home system and the message goes away. Â Some are reporting faster response with 3.0 but I think the biggest noticeable change is it will support Waze via applink in a couple of months. elijahbird7
Started the car again after turning off Wi-Fi about an hour ago, and the notification still pops up, and I don't have a home Wi-Fi system, only Jet Pack I use when I turn on my computer. Fastfwd75
I am not sure this is new with 3.0 but when the car notification popped for low gas apple maps popped a notification to look for gas stations at the same time. I had not seen that before but maybe I just missed it.
elijahbird7
I think I may have solved the pop up WI-Fi notification . I had turned off the Wi-Fi system, but realized I still had the Automatic Check for Software Updates still engaged. When I first tried to turn that off, by sliding to the left, it would automatically slide back to the right. After a few tries, it finally turned off, and when I start it now, no notification so far..! VisionPilot
