What would you like to see in the 2019 update?

Recommended Posts

I am in the market for a new SUV and am considering the MKX.  I am curious as to what current owners would like to see regarding new features/options in the 2019 update.  Certain items like a 9 speed transmission, a new grill look and different HP engines seem certain from FredLuke’s reports.  As I shop, it is surprising to me that there are not that many items missing from the MKX.

Personally, I would love a HUD at least starting in the Reserve models.

I think separating the LED headlight option out of the Luxury package would be a nice change.  I am tone deaf and do not need to pay for an audio experience that I can’t appreciate.  However, those that have LED headlights seem to think they are great.  They seem to be more of a safety/vision need than a luxury item.

Having a virtual cockpit in the driver’s dash like Audi would be great.  It would also be nice to display Google maps.

My wife’s comfort is just as important as mine.  Lincoln needs to add as many presets to the passenger seat as they have for the driver.

I have seen others in this forum say they would like a larger gas tank.

Not that any of this will have one bit of influence on Lincoln but maybe it will show where they need to go to continue to stay competitive with other luxury SUV brands.

Anyone else have things they would like to see added or changed?

I thought the 22-way seats were for both the passenger and driver?

Agree on splitting out the LED headlamps.

I think the base Revel audio should be standard on Reserve and the middle one (can't remember if it's premium or select).

I also think the Technology and Driver Assistance package should be standard on Reserve.

I'd like to see more personalization for each driver but I'm not that keen on the HUD.

Make the CCD suspension available on 2WD models.

I'm happy with my MKX and don't have any plans to buy a new one, but I would vote for:

1. Less menu items, more physical buttons.

2. Better lighting in the cargo area.

3. The ability to turn off interior lights while the car is running (outdoor theaters).

4. Light option in the engine compartment.

5. Ability to customize Sync with personal commands.

6. Making the Police PTU monitor standard on all AWD models.

7. Redesign those areas that continuously plague the MKX. Such as

. brake boosters failures

. PTU failures

. crud accumulation on the back side of the intake valves on direct injection engines

. water pump failures on the 3.5/3.7 liter engines dumping coolant directly into the oil pan killing the engine

. door switch failures due to corrosion

. ability to add a roof rack with a Vista moonroof

. optional mud flaps for the Edge Sport model

. better rubber floor mats, simular to the way Weathertech mats turn up on the sides, (would sell more)

. better cargo bumper protector (more like the Navigator)

. ability to TURN OFF the noise cancellation system (had loaner and had to pull over do the system building up to a thundering thumping sound while attempting to compensate for whop-whop with all windows open. This was a 30 mph. After restarting, it was gone)

. make the interior fuse panel (SJB) more accessible (like in the gen 1 models)

. fix the problem with exhaust gas filling the car under hard acceleration

. offer after sale (dealer installed) navigation and other infotainment upgrades (dealer profit on used cars)

. eliminate the air compressor/gel repair kit in liew of physical spare; high profile tires are rarely repairable and a physical spare is almost always required to continue travelling (who was the idiot that ever thought that this was a good idea?)

. offer optional infrared vision option HUD (heavy rain, fog, snow)

. offer optional CUSTOM windshield sun screen

. offer different voices for Sync

. drop HERE maps and switch to Google for navigation (HERE maps are always years out of date)

.

AkIrby: You are right about the 22 way seats.  I was thinking there were not as many presets on the passenger side.  However, the 10 way seats only have the memory presets for the driver's side.   "10-way power front seats with 2-way power lumbar and driver’s side memory feature"

Enigma-2: Have I missed the fact that there is not a mini spare?  Also, there should be no more 3.7 engine problems as FredLuke has reported the death of that engine for 2019.

One of the the things I miss from my 2011 and 2013 was the ability to change the fan speed and temperature from the steering wheel, bring that back pls...

Still shake my head on that one, the only voice command is the "temperature" and don't forget to start the conversation with "Climate"...  Just &%$#en idiotic.

i was going to save this for a separate thread, but this is a good time to talk about it.   We've owned our 2016 Black Label for about 5 months now and have few complaints.  However, there are two areas that bug me (my wife whose car it is, couldn't care less).

First, softer spring rates on the rear.  Since in Los Angeles, every small street and parking lots have speed bump and humps, I find that unless you come to a virtual stop, going over the humps at anything higher than 3mph produces a terrible double thumping that feels like the whole rear end is coming loose.  (#1 complaint)

Second, I am not crazy about the downshifting behavior of the 6spd. transmission.  Undoubtedly, the new tranny will have 8 or 9 speeds so that may automatically change this characteristic, but it's not the number or lack of speeds to which I object.  I have a 6spd ZF transmission in my 600hp Jaguar XKR, and it's the best tranny I've ever used in any car (and I prefer it to its 8spd younger "brother" in the F-type).  The gearing in the MKX tranny is just not spaced properly.

The other small annoyances that I'd like to see improved revolve around the Nav/screen.  Whatever the material of the screen, it shows every single fingerprint as if it had neon lights around it, to the point where it blocks the view of some of the information on the screen.  And finally, the dialpad of the phone is far too small for my fat fingers and typically takes me 3 or 4 attempts to actually hit the numbers I want.  Now maybe there is a magnified option that I haven't discovered yet, but I would love to see a larger phone screen.

My list of 10 wants:

1) Wider bottoms for the seats

2) Wider bottoms for the seats

3) Wider bottoms for the seats

4) Wider bottoms for the seats

5) Wider bottoms for the seats

6) More speeds for the transmission

7) brakes that aren't grabby at low speeds

8) built-in Qi charging plate.

9) HUD

10)Some minor improvements to the electronics (higher resolution for the 360 camera, or at least better stiching together, and obstacle detectors that don't off when I pass a house that is several yards away).

PS My lease is up in two year and I think I'd like to order another MKX.  I seriously love this vehicle. Just needs a few improvements.

To be clear, my car shifts smooth as silk. I just want better mpg.

I find the brakes to be very grabby when doing something like rolling out of a parking lot . idyll almost nothing the first few milliseconds with my foot in the brakes and then the car jumps to a sudden stop. It's not a huge issue, just a minor annoyance.

I want better lighting for night driving. Bring back the fog lights that throw additional light on the road. Also break out the headlights so there are separate low and high beams. The little lever that opens and they call them the high beams is crazy.

That's not feasible with HIDs due to the startup delay.  You can't switch them off and on quickly.

Here is my wish list.

1. There is an issue with the seats for me not width issue, maybe older butts need the room, but the position is very upright or something where I always adjust.

2. Newer tech - wireless CP and maybe AA if that becomes available. Should have G maps as stock and not crappy useless ford/here whatever maps. HUD maybe.

3. Bigger screen 10-12in

4. Gauges need to be connected to middle screen so AA, CP info and stock maps show up on the gauge cluster. Also some color there woudl be nice too show the artist cover in the gauge cluster and map.

5. Folding back chairs (which are currently just stupid) should be the opposite of what they are, the power should be to lift them back up and to go down just a spring like any other normal fing car.

6. Fuel tank is a joke, though 9 speed should help to get to 400 mile range.

7. Trans hoping it has more option for example more aggressive downshifts in sport and make the current sport a sport + similarly have an Eco mode. Should be Eco, Normal, Sport, Sport +.

8. Air suspension maybe though the current car rides really nice and handles surprisingly well. More to stay competitive.

9. Rear qtr windows, behind the back seats open so when i have my sunroof open all the way i don't have buffeting noise.

10. Better quality inside. Stalks even the newer ones being used though look a lot better still feel shitty. The middle plastic section needs a change. Better color combination. It's all lather wrapped now but when touching the dash its leather then hard plastic have soft injection plastic covered with leather so ti feels nicer.

11. Side window shades

12. 40/20/40 split rear seats.

13. Sliding rear seats.

14. Fix the fucking cooled seats. and all the other issues that have came up. My lincoln dealer just got the parts for the rotten egg smell fix which actually I haven't smelled in a long time so now worried to apply the fix.

15. Have a nice quiet beep when car running and stepping out of it with key in picket not stupid horn.

16. Less chrome

17. Memory passenger seats.

18. When you start the car make it sound less like a fire. Every Jap car sounds better my wife's Murano even has a nice growl when it starts

19...

The folding rear seats do use a simple spring to fold forward. The button just unlatches it. And having a power fold up option would be a huge safety hazard.

Fair on the first point still stupid over engineering. On the second point are you kidding many cars have that it is not a safety issue.

If the seats power fold up then they need safety sensors in case a child gets stuck. Same as the auto-up windows. I didn't say it couldn't be done but it's more complicated.

And it's no more complicated than the remote hood latch release. It's just a simple switch and servo.

It actually does not...on the 10 vehicles or so that i have used that feature including i believe navigator the safety feature is that you have to hold the button, when you release it stops.

Oh pleasssssseee. "What's so hard"????

You have walk all the way up to the car, and then pull the handle to unlock the door, and then pulllllll the door all the way open, not half way mind you, allllll the way. You know what I mean?

And now, now you have to do the hard part. You have to actually lean partially the way in the car, grasp the folded seat and, picture this, physically lift the seat all the way back to its full upright position. You know what I mean?

No, not done yet, you absolutely must be certain the the seat is alllllllll the way up AND locked. You will know it's locked by the loud, strong click you will hear when it is. And when that's done, you can go ahead and close the door. Know what I mean?

I tried this once after I bought my car. Think it took me .10 minutes or so to accomplish. May have been a bit more or less, but you get the idea. On the difficulty scale of 1 to 5, we're looking at a solid 1 here. Know what I mean?

Had to mix a margarita afterwards to ease my sore muscles. Ummm, think I'll go out and put up the rear seat again. Know what I mean?

I wish the seats would lay a bit more flat, but the release mechanism is fine.  I don't need a button to raise the seat.  In fact (and this is just me), I'd rather not add the wait and complexity.

But, different owners have different priorities and I could totally see what the above poster would want that feature.

Personally, if I'd have to choose an upgrade, I'd rather have some kind of molded plastic foam on the dash rather than that cheap looking pleather.  That's not a deal breaker for me either way.

Wider seat butts, a few refinements to the existing features, and one or two extra gizmos, and then Lincoln has a repeat customer. From a driver's perspective, I think this vehicle is superb just as it is.
