richy
It's been forever and a day since I've been on this board. I still own my 2011 MKX. It still looks absolutely brand new and I've taken extremely good care of it. It's got almost 129k and I've still got 10k in extended warranty on it. I think the time to trade is now. I was considering trying to find a used 2016, but I am extremely picky in what I want: 19 speaker Revel, white, 2.7EB. Lo and behold, I find a brand new 2016 MKX that is like 3 hours away from me. It's white, it has the 2.7EB, but, only the 13 speaker Revel system. I've only heard the 19 and it made me cream myself (I'm a huge audiophile). So, my question is: How much of a difference is there between the 2 systems? I'm having a very hard time finding exactly what I want, even in new car inventory (17's). I'm trying to keep my cost as low as possible.
tberg
richy, We bought a 2016 Black Label MKX with about 5,000 miles on it last month. It has the 19 speaker unit and is very good. We have a Lincoln MKZ (I think) sedan as a loaner while an airbag recall is done (looks pretty much the same as our MKX inside), and I believe it has the 13 speaker system which is also quite good. The problem I think you'll find has more to do with your thoughts about it, you'll always wonder if you're missing something and you'll regret it. We bought a flawless car with virtually every option on it with a CPO warranty that is better than a new car warranty (double actually) at about a $25000.00 savings, so you might want to look at a very low mileage used car that might have the options you really want. Go for it (with the 13 speaker version), take the difference in price and "as an audiophile" invested into your home system. A car is not the place for high end audio component. That's the first place I looked and how I actually found the new '16. This is Canada; our selection blows.

I'm trying to keep my cost as low as possible. The 13 speaker system is fantastic just not over xm. The 19 will compensate better for stream media etc but I use spotify exclusively on my 13 speaker system because it sounds so much better then everything else, I absolutely love it. One thing I would bring up, I looked at used 16 used in my area about 2 months ago, for fun, and found that most as in 99% were not Sync 3, you may not be techy but i would strongly suggest you find one with Sync 3. I would not have purchased my vehicle if I was stuck on mysynctouch. It's not just about smoothness ease of use etc, but it future proofs your car a bit, with carplay and androidauto getting more robust all the time that add on make a big difference. From a technology stand point its like buying a branch new MKX with a 5 speed transmission from the 8 years ago or a 3.0 duratec. richy

akirby
We heard the 19 speaker system on our test drive but bought the 13 speaker system and I didn't notice a huge difference - but I'm not a true audiophile and it was only a short demo. I don't think you'd be disappointed with the 13 but I do think the 19 has better signal processing on marginal sources.
enigma-2
There's more differences than just the number of speakers. With the 13 speaker system you only get one amp. You get two with 19 and so much more. This site may help explain the differences. https://www.theverge.com/2015/4/1/8326179/lincoln-mkx-revel-audio

I have found one exactly the way I want, but it's like $4k more. I can justify it emotionally through the differences: model year, 19 speakers, extra amp, Sync 3...but affording it is an entirely different matter. Hopefully I can retail my trade and make it work!!
