2016 MKX Carplay Upgrade Issue T-mobile Iphone 7

I recently paid to have my 2016 MKX upgraded to support carplay. They did the hub replacement. In general it works as advertised, but like many I sometime prefer to see the sync 3 maps and surprisingly carplay doesn't show cover art when playing a song or on the streaming aps like Pandora.....talk about dated looking. Anyways the problem I am encountering is that if I try to disable carplay via the infotainment screen my phone automatically keeps trying to connect and when doing this I don't have the option to connect to USB. The only way to stop this is to unplug the phone from the USB. Now here is the interesting part. I also have an iphone 7 for work though ATT and it doent do this. Once diaabled everything works as it should with sync 3 and there is no attempt to autoconnect and the Usb is accessable.

config is

new usb hub

sync 2.2

ideas?

If you want to disable carplay entirely check on your phone in settings, general, carplay. Maybe that 2nd phone has this turned off already.

Also there is cover art in carplay music but it's only an hazy background image; hard to make out if you never saw the actual album art before.

Maybe it's a case of what you are used to. I really hate sync 3 navigation and I did not enjoy apple maps much at first as I was used to waze. I still think that waze/google maps is better at searching for an address but I mostly use all apple stuff now; just easier to talk to siri and never try to type anything on the screen while at a red light.

Also try updating to sync 3.0; new features probably but there are always bug fixed between versions too
