White Platinum Met Tri-Coat Quality Control Issues Front/Rear Bumpers?

Have been to 3 different dealerships now and have yet to find any mkx or mkc with out the paint cracking around the sensors.

Can any owner of a platinum white with sensors show me a picture with out problems

Once I get my vehicle back from service (I'm having issues with park assist, error msg about headlamp, and sound from sunroof.) I'll take some photos.

Just got MKX back from service. Here are some pics of my bumper.

A little blury but it looks good.

Amazing! First mkx or mkc that color I've seen with out issues.

Every mkx/mkc on my dealerships lot has sensor issues.

I obviously got the turd that slipped through qc

I'll try to take clearer pics if it'll help.

if you can, turn on your flash!

It looks like cracking on your rear one but I just cant tell. The front corners are fine, its the 4 in the center of the bumper that are flawed on all the ones ive seen along with each rear sensor.

Looks like you have it on pic 1,3,4 and the last one. Not terribly noticeable like mine.

Did you notice it?

It's obviously a qc issue with this color only. Wonder if it's the tri coat process and too much paints being applied to the area or the force needed to install the sensors is too much for this paint?

I did notice some imperfections but figured it was from the permaplate coating they placed (basically a glorified sealer) only got it for interior protection & warranty since I have kids and will care for and clean regularly and seal paint yearly.

Took a trip down to Des Moines, Iowa to check this issue out for myself.  I've got a Platinum White MKX on order and my local dealer here in Ames has only a couple MKX's in stock and none are white.  I'm seeing the same thing that rst08tierney is reporting.  Not every sensor has cracking paint, but I looked at 4 MKX's, 2 MKZ's, and 1 MKC and they all had at least one sensor with the cracked paint issue.  I also saw cracking on a red and a back MKX, but white definitely is more likely to have the problem.

What's interesting, my 2013 Ford Edge, which is Platinum White, does not have this problem.

I guess at this point, I am expecting my MKX to arrive with the cracking issue.  I don't know what I will do.  I guess if it's not too bad, I'll just accept it and live with it.  On a positive note, one of the MKX's was Platinum White and had the hazelnut interior (this is what I ordered) and it was sharp looking!!  Hadn't seen the hazelnut interior in person.  Was very happy with how it looked! :)

Has anyone else talked with their dealer about this?

Amazing they are still letting vehicles leave the factory with out fixing this issue for close to a year now.

That last picture is by far the worst one I've seen.

Obvious concern during washes your mit or towel will grab an edge and the paint will flake off making the situation worse.

Could only imagine the issues 2-3 years down the road. These bumpers will only get worse.

How does qc miss this?

Yeah, the paint was actually pealing off on that one!  That was a plain and simple bad paint job.  I noticed on several of the MKX's, didn't matter the color, that the paint didn't always wrap all the way around and thus you could see the black of the bumper.  Guess this is one of the reasons why several reviewers of the MKX say the fit and finish isn't as good as on the German and Japanese competitors.  So definitely some quality control issues around the sensor openings.

As far as the cracking, I think someone else mentioned this, and I would have to concur.  I think it's happening when they pop in the sensors.  The stress put on the paint is causing it to crack.

I'm still sticking with my MKX order though.  Still think it's a great vehicle for the money.

I agree it's a good vehicle for the money but theses qc issues are ridiculous when cheaper vehicles arnt seeing rookie manufacturing mistskes.

Fully expect your roof lines to be all over the place as well. Somethings just off with the white.

I did look at the roof lines of the 4 white MKX's at the dealership yesterday and they were straight as an arrow.  So hopefully mine will be too.

My advice is cancel your order on the white or make your dealer aware of your concerns ahead of time.

Honestly a repaint of the bumpers will only make things worse with durability and color matching.

For anyone on the fence about ordering the tri coat white, stay far away and do not order.

So have you been able to determine the cause of your issues?  I thought I remember reading earlier that there was some thought that your MKX might have been repainted after it left the factory?  Either by the transporter or the dealer.

I looked over the MKX's at the dealership yesterday and saw none of the other issues you were dealing with (no runs, no crooked lines, etc.).  Just the cracking around the sensors.  I spent about an hour thoroughly looking them over.

I'm going to let the white one come in and make my decision at that point.  I have signed no paperwork nor have I put any money down.

Still waiting for all the paperwork from Lincoln. At this point they have found nothing.

The tri coat roofs at the dealership I purchased from has some issues down the rails with lines not being straight but nothing that looks like mine.

I honestly think maccos and their $200 paint job would look better better then my disaster.

I'm in the eye of the storm when it comes to Lincoln buying back my vehicle. Not one person on their level had seen a new vehicle delivered so poorly to a customer with this many paint and body issues.

Lincoln had me bring the vehicle to the dealerships body shop to calculate the cost of repairing everything. 6 panels needs to be fixed and repaired/repainted. They know I'm not excepting repairs but it's a step needed to finalize things on their end.

Keeping my fingers crossed. Too many positive stories on here not to get the same Lincoln experience as others. Looking foward to getting this resolved and starting fresh.

Good luck!  I hope it works out for you.  If they end up taking it back, will you be getting another MKX?

Sounds like Lincoln will take care of it and they'll fight it out with the dealer and transport company. Good news.

Hopefully.

I've been very respectful of everyone during the process and have yet to blow up at anyone involved.

Everyone from the dealership to the body shop and in between all get it. They all have cars and get where I'm coming from.

I keep telling my wife that I just don't see them telling me these needed repairs are normal and I must accept the car being restored.

Again, really hoping Lincoln steps up and does what's right. Looking forward to a beautiful new vehicle coming straight from the factory. (of course in Luxe this time around)

If he does I'm going to go out on a limb and say it won't be white.  ;)

He better rule out black too..

OMG, Ive been reading this thread and fighting myself from going to look at my MKC for this issue, it helped I was away from my car for awhile until a few hours ago..

I've had enough quality issues and disappointment in Lincoln...I definitely don't need more...

WOW, look at my sensors - tuxedo black.  Mine are worse than your white by miles!  I never noticed this before. I try not to look too hard after the obvious quality issues I've already seen to be honest.  Plus I'm more of a stickler for my interiors (which was wrought with QC issues too - just terrible - as others say how do they get through QC at all?)

Overall I honestly wouldn't be too upset over just this, but its the cumulative problems with multiple areas on multiple cars that just show why Lincoln was going away to begin with.  I have a 2015 MKC and they are STILL not getting it right with the latest MKX's.  And they seriously want to be a luxury brand?

Posting picture in next post, I cant attach in the reply I chose..
