Full Synthetic Motor oil

Anyone using Full Synthetic Motor oil  in their Mkx? 

 

What brand and weight? also after how many miles will you change it again?

 

What oil filter you are using?

I run a blend, and change it at 15,000. Best filter if the Motorcraft filter.

 

Bobstheoilguy.Com did a test on filters a few years ago and Motorcraft was well up there.

 

Avoid anything sold at Wal Mart. A lot of the cheap stuff leaked and we're built like crap internally. If I remember correctly, STP scored highest. But not enough to Warrenton price.

I use the Motorcraft Semi Synthetic and a Motorcraft oil filter.

I expect to be driving a 2016 MKX with the 2.7EB engine soon. As a DIY maintenance owner, I'll be using the OEM filter (Motorcraft made to Ford specifications by Purolator) and a 5W-30 synthetic oil meeting the HTO-6 spec (currently only a few commonly available oils, e.g. Pennzoil Pure Plus, Quaker State Ultimate Durability, Mobil 1, Kendall GT-1, all of which are in my current inventory, and a few others). Depending on driving conditions, I'll likely change the oil/filter at ~ 7500 mile intervals while loving the up-front & on-top location of the filter and the plastic removable-by-hand oil sump drain plug. I'm also pleased with the 2.7TT engine's large capacity oil sump vis-à-vis the tiny 3.5 quart capacity of one of my other vehicles.

Actually I buy my Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft oil filters at WalMart. They have the best price for them around here. Been using them for years in several Fords including my RV. Never had an issue as long as I stayed with the Motorcraft brand.

One of my cars is a 2007 Sonata and all it has ever drank is Motorcraft semi-synthetic 5w20.  Runs like a top and no repairs.  I see some posters run 15,000 miles between changes and another will change at 7500 miles.  Doesn't the MKX have an oil life expectancy minder telling you when to change oil, according to various factors tracked by the computer?  I had a Honda ten years ago that kept track of engine revolutions, engine temps, time factors, etc.  It would tell you the percentage of oil life expectancy and when that reached 15 percent it would alert you that an oil service was due soon.  Blackstone Lab ran a couple oil analysis for me and the maintenance minder was very accurate.  This was a much better system than some arbitrary X number of miles or X number of months between oil changes.  Does the MKX have something that alerts you when maintenance is due?

It is my understanding that there is an alert that reminds one to change the oil.  It appears that there are more factors than just mileage that it uses to determine when to alert.  But as a disclaimer, I have only had our 2013 MKX for 2 days now and I am still trying to figure out how to turn the radio on.

But why?  Don't you get free oil changes for the Ist 50K miles?  Plus  all maintenance is documented on the Lincoln network for warranty purposes, trained techs are there for diagnosing any issues and you keep your hands clean.

We use Liqui Moly full synthetic Special Tec AA 5W20 weight engine oil. We change every 6K miles. 

Prior to the change we use Liqui Moly Engine Flush. Filter is Ford OEM  FL500S. I don't trust aftermarket. Stay away from Fram. 

AMAZON we purchase it all from. including RedLine Gear Oils.. My local OILER does the flush and change.

▪︎LIQUI MOLY (LM) is a German petroleum company. Been around since early 1920. Switched from MOBIL1 synthetic. LM manufactures and quality controls it all in one facility. MOBIL1, multiple locations worldwide. My DuraTec V6 engine responds oh so better to this LM oil.

Just for you. My lubrication schedule. ?  Everyone has their own. We like our MKX. Lubrication maintenance is the life of your vehicle and it extends well beyond engine oil changes.

 

▪︎ PTU - changed  every 25K miles. We use Red Line Gear Oil  75W140. Out performs Motorcraft hands down. At my OILER. Dealership claims their PTU oil is lifetime never needs change. NOT SO.

 No concern if you do not have AWD.

▪︎ Rear Differential - changed every 75K miles. Red Line Gear Oil. At the dealership.

▪︎ Transmission - changed every 30K miles. Motorcraft trans fluid. At the dealership.

▪︎ Brake Fluid - changed annually. At the dealership.

▪︎ Coolant - change every 30K miles. Motorcraft coolant. At the dealership. 

▪︎ Power Steering Fluid - changed every year. At the dealership.

One of the poster mentioned Blackstone Labs. I'm attaching a YouTube video in which Ryan Stark of Blackstone Labs discusses the difference between conventional oil and synthetic. He does so explaining the real differences and what the laboratory can see when using one or the other. His experience and years of testing may surprise you and what opinions you may have formed based on false information.
