Dallas150/ Thank you very much for such detailed DIY instructions! You are the man! Your way of thinking and working is exactly like mine, we could probably be friends if lived nearby
I ran into some problems with my new TCU, perhaps you or someone else will be able to help me out. My new 4g TCU was sourced from 2020 Ford Ranger, details from Forscan as follows:
TCU - Telematic Control Unit Module
Part number: LB5T-14G087-SH
Calibration level: LB5T-14G087-SR
Strategy: LB5T-14G139-SR
I tried to reflash firmware on it using same exact .vbf files you saved on Google Drive, just like you did in Custom mode in Forscan, but it ends up in error (see screenshot). Do you think this TCU model is not compatible to flash with different .vbf files or what is the cause of this error? Or should .zip archives be chosen instead of .vbf files in Custom mode in Forscan?
The car is 2016 Lincoln MKX Black Label with Sync 3 system with 3.4 firmware on it.
Also does anybody know the source to obtain .vbf modules firmware files nowadays for any vehicle by VIN or part numbers, perhaps some third-party database? From what I understand Ford blocked access to them, only 2kb .asp calibration files are possible to download from Ford site and how do we use/apply them in Forscan? 2kb is not the size to contain any firmware updates, so what are these .asp files for?
Also, what are the differences between "Calibration level", "Calibration" and "Strategy" and their roles/purposes in different modules? Please explain if you can. Thank you again!
