PDX97229 Report post Posted October 30, 2018 Hello ALL: We have a serious issue that the dealer can not fix. We have a 2016 MKX with every option. We have a serious issue with the lift gate closing on its own. This does not happen every time but when we load or unload the rear, it often closes on our head! This does not happen every time and we thought that we may have had our feet get near it, but that is not the case. It has closed when were several feet away from the rear bumper. Has this happened to anyone else and is there a known fix?
tberg Report post Posted October 31, 2018 It has happened to me on our 2016 MKX on too many occasions to even count. I assumed it was my feet under the bumper even when I was careful not to extend them more than a couple of inches. I have been hit in the head, almost been strangled, etc. Very annoying. akirby Report post Posted October 31, 2018 To be absolutely sure it's not the foot sensor, take the fob out of your pocket and leave it at least 10 feet away. If it stops then it's the foot sensor. 1 Timmer reacted to this
enigma-2 Report post Posted October 31, 2018 I read on a different ford forum where the owners has similar problems and traced it to either tripping the foot sensor under the car or bending over and activating the FOB. Dont know if it was too sensitive or just a faulty FOB. Try using your other FOB if akirby's suggestion doesn't work.
PDX97229 Report post Posted November 1, 2018 Well the FOB is in my wife's purse so she has not bent over and tripped it.
Dave Report post Posted August 1, 2022 Rear liftgate closing on it's own is a builtin problem with 2016 MKX. Ours has done this many times and always at the most inconvenient times and does not appear to be for any particular reason. It just decides it wants to close and will coninue until it hits something of signicant restraint. Then it stops but does not re-open until triggered or pushed open.
