Nosebleed Report post Posted March 11, 2017 Hi All, I am in the process of buying a 2017 MKX reserve. It will need to be ordered. There's a 500 rebate, that's it. Seems they are a couple thousand short on my trade in according to Kelly BB. I have not made a return offer. They a hovering around sticker. I think there is a lot of wiggle room off sticker, but am stuck on my end. I don't want to kill the deal, but I want to get a fair price. Call several dealerships, ask for the sale manager (not a salesperson) and tell them which model you want to order and ask if they will sell it to you for the X plan price without a x plan pin. jbiggs Report post Posted March 11, 2017 I was unaware of the price plan/pin thing, but I ordered a '17 Reserve AWD 2.7 for 1% over invoice, which ended up being about $3,700 under sticker, if I am remembering that correctly. I probably could have pushed for more but had a lot going on that week and needed to wrap up negotiations. I just picked it up a week ago and will be posting my early impressions soon, but if you are ordering, here's a couple feedback items: -I went with the 13-speaker Revel upgrade, but not the 20 speaker option. The sound system sounds very good and much better than the stock one -I didn't get the 22-way seats as I had no interest in the massage feature. Although the stock seats are nice, I find the thigh support lacking and would order the seat upgrade if I had to do it again for that reason alone. -The 2.7 Turbo engine has lots of punch and makes me smile when I want to accelerate quickly. However, I find the 2.7's rickety engine noise at idle and in general driving to be noticeably noisier than the standard 3.7 engine. My dealer did not have any 2.7s for me to test drive, so I foolishly assumed it would not be that much noisier than the 3.7. If I had to do it over again.....I'd still go with the 2.7 because of the power/responsiveness -I ordered mine on 12/28 and it arrived at the dealer on 2/28. I picked it up a few days later. Akirby, when you said that's to high, which side of to high do you mean? 5% would be to close to sticker? Jbiggs, your math will really help. It kind of eliminates having to deal with the X plan and invoice price. You ordered just what we want to order. Dropped the "luxury" option $4400 extra, 20 twenty speakers and led headlights of all things, very spendy. Ordered the 21" wheels. We want the Hazelnut interior. You don't need to actually use x plan, just use the x plan price which is printed on every invoice and is the same for every dealer in that region as a starting point. If one dealer says $100 over x plan or invoice and the other says $300 then you know the second one is $200 more. Just be sure to factor in the doc fee which can range from $75 to $700 and is simply add on profit. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
mightyjj Report post Posted March 13, 2017 I think I've got the best Lincoln dealer around. Family owned and operated and none of that back and forth stuff. They usually sell new Lincolns for invoice plus $399 doc fee. Seems fair to me. All dealers have to make money and they get somewhere in the numbers. I drove a 2.7 T and the standard 3.7 engine. I find the 3.7 very adequate for my needs. The 2.7 Turbo was a bit quicker and you feel the torque, but the difference from 0 - 60 is about 1 or 2 seconds-- a $2,000 second. But I know some people really like it. I'll get a speeding ticket with the 3.7 eventually one day most likely. I didn't get the 21" wheels. New tires are about $350-$600 each and I don't think they ride as well. The Hazelnut interior is nice looking, but its still a bit dark for me. If the headliner was a light color I would like it better. Cadillac has done that in their XT5s. Contrasting Seat and headliner colors. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

If you want the best least-hassle price, I recommend that you do some research, if you haven't yet, into the invoice pricing for the options you're interested in and negotiate by email with a number of dealers. Don't negotiate over the phone or at the dealer. A good discussion of this tactic is at https://www.bogleheads.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=124638. I did this with a number of dealers and ended up at around 3% under invoice, plus whatever incentives apply at delivery. Also, check out Truecar for information. The market average for MKXs in your area is nearly $1000.00 below invoice for a model built as I ordered. Plan to do your negotiating around the end of the month if you want the best deal. From there you can do build your own or search dealer inventory and it will show you the X plan prices. Don't worry about the incentives - those are usually different based on your local and regional incentives. You can usually check a local dealer website and see the current incentives for your area. X plan is around $150 over invoice. I would not expect to pay more than $500 over invoice for a MKX under any circumstance and you can probably get it close to invoice. So my deal was 1% over invoice less $2,500 Lincoln Incentive and $1,000 Competitor Conquest Incentive because I had an Acura MDX that I was moving from. I think the same conquest deal was good for someone with a Lexus, Acura, BMW, Benz, or Infinity. I don't know which incentives are still available, but you can check the incentive plans via http://www.lincoln.com/crossovers/mkx/incentives/. One nice thing is that Lincoln enables you to select the best incentives from either when you placed the order for your MKX -or- when you pick it up. The other folks on this thread have some great ideas. I'm sure if you have the time you will be able to get a better deal than I did. cafpaf Report post Posted March 16, 2017 I am currently waiting for my car to come in. It is a 2017 Reserve with AWD and the Driver Assistance and Climate Packages. The vehicle has an MSRP of $51,850 and an Invoice price of $48,693. I will purchase it a at invoice price less the current incentive of $500 and a military discount of an additional $500. Therefore my price is $47.693 unless the incentives improve between now and the time of delivery sometime next month. FYI I am using the USAA car buying service so that I can avoid any dealer back and forth. I have checked with two dealers and they are within $100 of each other. That 925 destination fee is a killer for us folks on the West Coast but I can understand why they have to adjust for the distance. What's it cost to get the car to GA. Nosebleed.
