PDX97229 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 We have a 2016 MKX with EcoBoost. Since the "-" battery post is not accessible, and they tell you to connect to a good Ground, just where is that? I do see a lug above the battery, but it does not seem that big.
akirby Report post Posted January 2, 2017 It's the lug right next to the battery. That's what it's for.
PDX97229 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 It's the lug right next to the battery. That's what it's for. I will look. Is the lug above the battery? Is it to the left or right of the + post?
akirby Report post Posted January 2, 2017 It's to the right of the battery on the front of the strut tower. There is a large wire going from the lug back to the negative terminal. Can't miss it.
PDX97229 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 (edited) I will look again but do not see what you are mentioning. I will look for a strut tower. You know, we have a small BOX that is dangling, and I wonder just what that is. I see a small terminal on it, but not something that seems to support high current. If by Strut Tower you mean the long bar above the battery that runs along the whole compartment, I see a large tab with a hole in it. I guess that may be what you are talking about but I do not see any large wire connecting to the battery. Edited January 2, 2017 by PDX97229

PDX97229 Report post Posted January 2, 2017 thank you. THAT is where I attached our trickle charger, but is that wire big enough to actually jump start the car? It seems like it would take a lot of current to start the car. Anyway, thank you so much for the picture. It is where I had hooked it up before and thought there was another place I did not know about.

The wire is very short so it doesn't need to be as large as jumper cables.

enigma-2 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 BTW always connect the (+) first. Reason being when connecting the (-) lead, if it sparks, it's further away from the battery (hydrogen gas).
Cosmos36 Report post Posted January 3, 2017 (edited) Perhaps a better rule is: never connect a jumper cable directly to the dead battery's negative terminal. Since there are only four (4) sequential connections, it's handy to remember: Red Dead to Red Hot, Black Hot to Ground (of dead vehicle). Where Dead=dead battery & Hot=booster battery and colors refer to cable/terminal colors. If uncertain, consult your manual. I've seen fried components in vehicles incorrectly connected. Also, although I carry cables, they will never be used except in instances where it's my vehicle that is disabled. Edited January 4, 2017 by Cosmos36
enigma-2 Report post Posted January 4, 2017 When I was a kid, still in high school, cold, cold winter night, ran across a guy who's car was dead. Tried jumping him but his starter barely turned over. Soooo in great wisdom, we connected the batterys red to black, black to red (24 volts). Starter spun like crazy, car started and we parted. Course we were young and stupid but, ... it worked. lol
